Low-res video shoved to the left in BigBox
Jason Carr replied to EazyCheeze1978's topic in Troubleshooting
Thanks @EazyCheeze1978; I still hope to tackle that this week, if not very soon. -
I see; I hear you guys. My apologies for not being on the same page as you all. What we've done is certainly a good first step in that direction, but we do still have some work to do to support fully customizable nested wheels. As always, I am hesitant because I'm afraid it might make things over-complicated, so when we implement it we need to come up with a good solution so that it's not confusing. That said, I can certainly see the benefits. We'll get there.
-
My apologies @Wattoo, that is indeed still on my list and in my plans. I just forgot to get that done for 7.9. We will definitely make that happen though.
-
Thanks guys. Yup, please email support@unbrokensoftware.com @frankieboyo and Kirsten can hook you up. I'm traveling right now so I can't jump on it for the moment.
-
@DJQuad This all makes sense, though to be completely honest it still does seem more complicated than necessary to me. I'm sure we'll get these features in eventually, but especially now that the poll is out I don't know that it will be a focus for the immediate future. My mind can always be changed by thoughts of the community though, of course.

@hoosier1, did the Windows 10 Creator's Update just install for you recently by chance? I ask because a few people have been seeing issues with DirectX in the creator's update. Outside of that unfortunately I don't really have any other ideas other than to make sure that your video drivers are all the way up to date. You might also want to download and install DirectX 9.0c from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=34429 I'm unsure of how LaunchBox or Big Box would ever interfere with an emulator; this is the first time I've ever heard of that happening, so I would think it has to be a driver issue of some sort, or some kind of weird issue with DirectX or maybe even the .NET Framework 4.6.2. You could also try reinstalling the .NET Framework if you're on an OS that isn't Windows 10.

FYI guys, I've been playing with .NET 4.7 today, and I am seeing some exciting performance increases in Big Box, mostly just stuff that helps to smooth out the graphics and transitions. Unfortunately we can't update to .NET 4.7 quite yet, because Microsoft doesn't have it out for anything but the Windows 10 Creator's Update at this point, but it is going to come out for everything Windows 7 and up, so we will be able to update to it in a month or two. It's good to see that MS has added more performance improvements for WPF though.

Gotta say, I've been wanting exactly that recently on the GPD Win. So that's sweet.
-
It actually varies between the Windows Media Player and VLC playback engines. The main issue is it's just really tricky to get both engines to behave exactly the same and exactly how we want. I don't think it has to do with DPI because even with a single DPI we have the same issues. I'm planning on getting back to this stuff early next week though.
-
DPI scaling actually depends on the theme. By default the XAML theming engine will obey DPI scaling, but with the default theme we actually have overrides in place to ignore it (because we wanted everything to be big regardless of DPI). I agree that we need more options to control it though.
-
I don't really have that defined yet lol. I know we need parental controls but that's about it for now. We'll have to dive into it as a community when we tackle it.

Yeah, for the most part, it should detect the new games. Although deleting and re-adding the playlists is a safer bet, it's most likely not necessary. However, if you had extra non-arcade games in the playlists, then you would definitely want to delete the playlists and re-run the process.
-
That makes perfect sense @SNAK3ATER; I don't believe I ever added the playlist clear logo support to the custom themes. I'll put that on my list though; definitely excited to see more views for the theme!

Big Box Mode Crashed after new Windows 10 Creators Update 1703
Jason Carr replied to blackstar1's topic in Troubleshooting
Great to hear that we have this figured out guys; good work, and thank you very much. I'll probably put this topic in the newsletter email that goes out just to keep people informed on potential problems and solutions. -
Yup, just a matter of right-clicking on them in the side bar in LaunchBox. It's been too long for me to remember exactly what you mean about the wheels, but we haven't made any major changes to them recently.
-
Yeah, that's definitely something I've been wanting to do for a while; we'll probably get it on the upcoming poll. @Grila Stellar as always. I can't wait for this theme.

Big Box Mode Crashed after new Windows 10 Creators Update 1703
Jason Carr replied to blackstar1's topic in Troubleshooting
Have you tried downgrading until Microsoft gets it all ironed out? Supposedly that is an option according to MS. -
Yes. It's the controller automation features (which are actually not done by AutoHotkey at all anymore) that are premium-only.

Beta 10 is out now guys with some fixes for some minor bugs from the automatic error reports. The other thing I changed was I changed the method of downloading images and media slightly to download them to a temporary folder and then move them, in an effort to get rid of rare errors that pop up while trying to use LaunchBox during an operation like metadata updates. I'm hoping this will be a good release candidate and we can release the official version either later tonight or tomorrow morning.
-
@zeus128 To be honest I'm having trouble understanding all that. It would be best to post individual feature requests using Issues/Requests in the header.
-
The one issue that we have been seeing (several users have reported it now) is that apparently sometimes nVidia graphics card drivers get corrupted and then nothing that uses DirectX will work (including Big Box or games). It should be able to be fixed by just reinstalling nVidia drivers though. I just upgraded myself and haven't experienced any issues (outside of a dreadfully long install time).

Big Box Mode Crashed after new Windows 10 Creators Update 1703
Jason Carr replied to blackstar1's topic in Troubleshooting
@mmsiphone @mazjohn Thank you so much for figuring that out. I'm willing to bet that's probably the same issue that you're running into @blackstar1, but it's hard to say for sure. But we'll be sure to tell people to reinstall their nVidia drivers if more people run into this. -
@Maddoc1007 @LukeArio I can confirm that I am seeing both issues myself as well. Hopefully I can manage to get them fixed tomorrow; it looks like the release will end up coming out on Wednesday. @Maddoc1007 That CoverFlow bug has been a problem since the beginning and has to do with files that are in use, proving to be a nasty one to solve. Anyways, beta 9 is out with the following: - Improvement: Big Box CoverFlow performance has been marginally improved; also, for lower end machines such as the GPD Win, the reflections are what cause performance issues and can now be turned off under Big Box > Options > Images > CoverFlow Reflection Opacity. Set the opacity to 0% to drastically improve performance. - Improvement: Hide Taskbar is no longer the default for Big Box since it seems to cause some rare issues on some systems, specifically when coming back to Big Box from a game (thanks to Charco for figuring this out) - Fixed: When selecting a platform, platform category, or playlist in the sidebar in LaunchBox and no previous image type had been selected for that item, LaunchBox was not using the default image type but rather it was using the image type that was used for the previous selection - Fixed: Playlists were not looking at additional apps when populating the games in the lists - Fixed: When creating automatic arcade playlists, some non-arcade games were ending up in the list Anything you guys can do to test the above would be appreciated.

Thank you all very much. I have all translations updated for the next beta, which should be out shortly. I expect the release to be out either tomorrow or Wednesday.

unconfirmed issue Adding additional mame roms issue
Jason Carr replied to Thatman84's topic in Troubleshooting
Thank you @Thatman84. @SentaiBrad, I think the issue is that somehow the emulator is not getting attached when searching for and adding new ROMs.
