When using the same field twice in the list, it's an "Or". That way you can specify to include two different developers, for example. Otherwise, it's an "And". So you can stuff like this: "Show me games for the NES where the developer is Capcom or the developer is Namco." Adding a line for Platform equals NES, Developer equals Capcom, and developer equals Namco should result in the above.

Thanks for the discussion guys. To clarify, this auto-populate feature is separate from the one that will create playlists for arcade, like Capcom Classics. That feature is still planned, and will not use this auto-populate stuff. We're simply going to include metadata as to what goes in what playlist, and create them on importing Arcade. We have found a number of bugs in the latest beta that I'm currently working on, including issues with displaying platform categories in LaunchBox and no games listed under All (among other things). Working on the bugs; I should have a beta out later today.

[REQUEST] 3D MODE LIKE SEGA Mega Drive Classics Hub
Jason Carr replied to supneo's topic in Features
@Izegod Something similar was actually on the latest poll: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/launchboxfeatures I was surprised though because it didn't get as many votes as most of the others; maybe I just didn't phrase it the best. Something like the above is what I had in mind. We'll probably come back to it again in a future poll after we get the top items done from this last poll. -
Alright guys, beta 6 is out, with the auto-populate functionality for playlists. It's a whole lot more flexible than the custom filters were, and it doesn't have the performance issues either, so we should be in good shape with it. It does need some beating on though, so test away. Tomorrow I'll be headed back to fixing bugs, and I'll start with the bugs listed here in this thread. @Norfair, you may be onto something with the Scrape As possibly causing the sorting issues, so thanks, that could be a big win. Can anyone else confirm that it's happening for Scrape As platforms?

Lol. Been there and done that. Actually, I done worse. Formatted the whole thing and did stuff my own way more than once.

[REQUEST] 3D MODE LIKE SEGA Mega Drive Classics Hub
Jason Carr replied to supneo's topic in Features
Absolutely, I would love to add something like this guys. I have been thinking along the same lines as well, ever since I first saw New Retro Arcade Neon. That said, it's a huge undertaking, even with using something like Unity, so it's probably not something we can focus on soon (though I would say it should be a longer-term priority). Good to know though that you can help with the 3D stuff @supneo. -
@eatkinola Wow, that's brilliant indeed! I've never seen that myself. Woot!

BigBox can't find roms on mapped network drive (but LaunchBox can)
Jason Carr replied to smpetty's topic in Troubleshooting
Wow, good sleuthing @ckp. Where are you guys getting your advice to run LB/BB as administrator? I should probably correct that thread because I keep seeing this come up, and there's really never any good reason to do it (plus, it causes problems like these). -
Thanks @CriticalCid for nailing that down. I added this to the top of my to-do list.

@Zombeaver is spot-on here; certain Direct X libraries are required, as well as the .NET framework 4.6.1 (actually now 4.6.2 for the latest beta). Unfortunately if you're locked out of being able to install those on your machine, you probably won't be able to use the app. I'm not aware of a way to install Direct X or the .NET framework by just copying DLLs.

I'm finding that the "Populating playlists" message is misleading because it just stays up there while loading up the GUI (playlists load quickly and then the windows load up immediately afterwards). First off, I need to tweak that message to make it more clear, but then I have no idea why this would happen to begin with. I also don't know why the Options window would be affected. So other than blaming Windows for pooping on itself, I have no idea why this would be happening. That said, this has been reported before, so maybe there is something here to look into.

For those having the ordering issue, please let me know if you still see it in the latest beta. It's a long shot, but I did change one thing that I suppose *could* be the problem, but sadly I'm doubting it.
-
Remind me what OS version you're on, @DR9. This doesn't sound like anything I've seen before, so it's likely to be difficult to track down. Any details you can give me about your system could be helpful.

I researched this issue pretty extensively and it turns out it's specific to the CityHunter theme; it's the same performance issue with the notes that we dealt with previously and fixed. @keltoigael is renaming the ScrollingNotes element to ScrollingNotesMod, which overrides our performance fixes; this does not seem to be the case with the CriticalZone theme. Let me know @keltoigael if there's a reason for this or if we can just switch it up to help with the performance.

Alright guys, beta 5 is out. I took it a bit easy (ish) today because I got sick with a bug last night. Nothing major though. I fixed a bunch of random auto-reported errors as well as added sort titles for platforms and playlists, which will let you custom-order them in the LaunchBox side bar and in Big Box. Let me know how that feature works for you guys. Gonna take a look at the reported issues here next.

Yeah, sadly there are still some video positioning issues, especially with stretching videos. It is on my shortlist but it's admittedly been a royal pain to get fixed. Still, I plan to fix the video positioning issues soon.
-
Twins! So this isn't the only thing you're productive at doing. But really, that's good, because I'd kind of like to keep my son around. I just tweeted your video out also, btw. I couldn't help it.

Alright guys, I experimented a bit this morning with the .NET framework 4.6.2, which has been out for a while, and I am seeing some relatively significant performance improvements with it, so I spent the morning upgrading everything to the .NET framework 4.6.2. If you're running Windows 10 and have the anniversary update installed, then you already have 4.6.2. Otherwise, the setup should now prompt you to install it. It does work fine on Windows 7 and later. So beta 4 is out, but all it does is change the .NET framework version and adds checks to the setup to make sure that your framework is up to date. Please let me know if anyone has any issues with the setup upgrading the framework for them. Also, I still can't replicate the ordering issues (I keep playing with it and I'm still getting nowhere). It would be really nice if this magically fixed it (always possible), so let me know what happens with the ordering issue after upgrading to beta 4. Also, holy crap: Let's keep discussion there in that thread so we don't clutter up the beta testing one, but @Grila probably deserves my firstborn.

LB trying to make music folders on a drive that doesn't exist

Gotcha. Guess we'll just blame it on weirdness. Good luck on the reinstall.- 8 replies

LB trying to make music folders on a drive that doesn't exist
Jason Carr replied to DOS76's topic in Beta Testing
I would think there has to be a path pointing to the E: drive somewhere. In Notepad++ you can do a Search in Files to search the entire folder for "E:"; that might help.- 8 replies

Nothing has changed related to that, so I would think it has to be some kind of external influence causing it. Still on my short list.

Honestly, I have very little experience with MAME software lists; maybe @SentaiBrad can chime in?

Is there a way to customize the order systems appear in Big Box?
Jason Carr replied to heelsinc's topic in Noobs
Yup. -
Alright, beta 3 is out now guys; all issues above should be fixed sans for the issue with the side bar sorting. That one is proving to be very difficult simply because I can't seem to ever reproduce it on my machines, even when using someone else's data (I used @DOS76's on the live stream and still couldn't reproduce it), so that is still on my plate. I spent the day just fixing bugs though, so nothing is new as of yet, but the issues with the deletes should be fixed.

Thank you @CliveBarker; I have the translations updated for the next beta, which should be out later today. @RemagOrter @DOS76 The side bar should be the only place that happens and it's because those values are customizable. Go to Tools > Options > General > Sidebar and you'll see that you can customize the names for those. So we don't automatically change them when switching languages because the user could have customized them.
