Gotcha @Zombeaver. Sounds like these changes will not help for those platforms then. It's only going to help solve the problem where ROM file names are obscure and thus couldn't previously be imported with proper game titles. I'll have to come up with custom solutions yet for the multi-disc issue and whatever the heck we need for Amiga (I still don't really know). Lol.

Nope, not typically. Typically the results you see in Google are the same for everyone, at least the ones outside of the ads. You can test it just by opening up Internet Explorer (which I'm betting no one here actually uses) and performing the same search. You'll see largely the exact same results. We get results from Google mostly because we're just the best source of info for many emulation topics.

Also, I ended up adding a number of non-MAME arcade platforms to the LaunchBox Games Database, as we already had been doing. I'm slowly warming up to renaming Arcade to MAME, largely because Arcade just doesn't make sense. I don't like creating platforms based on emulators, but I think it might be best to just deal with it in this regard to reduce confusion and duplication. Thoughts? Before I rename it though I really need to implement that "don't change platform when downloading metadata and images" thing.

To be honest, I'm not sure how well platforms like Amiga or Atari ST will work with these new changes. I'm hoping they'll be significantly improved though. I need to do more testing myself to see, I guess. I've barely used Atari ST and Amiga myself, so I don't know the platforms very well. So I need you guys to help test.

Steam Games with "emulator" results in file not found error
Jason Carr replied to Nielk1's topic in Troubleshooting
Hi @Nielk1, that's the first time that's come up, I guess. Emulation mode has never been used for Steam, so that makes sense. The only way to get around that currently would be to not use an emulator and do things manually via a batch file or something. Feel free to put a ticket into Bitbucket so I can add that as an option eventually. -
Hi @johnugamer, those are all settings that you can change in the Big Box settings. The theme won't automatically change those.

Thank you @elborra; please read the first few posts of this topic for details on how you would get started tweaking the translation. I'm sure @CliveBarker won't mind if you make some corrections; just make sure you guys aren't stepping on toes and working on the files at the same time. @dukeemu I just put out 6.9-beta-1 with the Italian translation re-enabled. We'll need to test it thoroughly and then also I'll need to go through it to fix all the dialogs to make sure everything fits.

Thank you guys. I'll be back to the VLC stuff soon; I'm in the process of hopefully hiring higankanshi (the Meta.Vlc developer) to help us out and get these bugs fixed. A new beta is out. I took a break from bugfixes today after the 6.8 release and started to tackle some of the issues with importing problematic platforms. Most non-MAME arcade platforms as well as other problematic platforms now have proper file name to game title conversions. I tested with the Sega Model 2 platform and indeed was able to pull proper names and thus metadata for all of the games. Keep in mind that force using MAME metadata for any platforms other than MAME is no longer recommended. Other arcade platforms will likely be better processed automatically with that box unchecked. Very curious to hear how things are working for you guys for all the various platforms that were previously a problem. Also would like to know what other issues we still need to solve for imports.

Thanks @lordmonkus. Unfortunately though we need to refrain from uploading emulators here.

Gonna go ahead with the official release then. Let me know if anyone else is seeing any crashes and if they're able to replicate them.

I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me. When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer. Psalm 94:18-19 (NLT) This verse comes to me in the middle of temptation, but the Lord is surrounding me with his love and picking me up out of the fray.

Yeah, I've tried looking into paysafe before, but at least my initial efforts weren't successful because I'm in the US. I'm not 100% sure if it's possible either way yet, though. It just wasn't going to be a quick process to set up and wasn't really very clear.
-
Thanks @dukeemu. I'm planning on putting out an official release today so I'll probably disable the Italian translation for this release until we can get everything ironed out. It will still be available in the betas, of course.
-
Bah, still crashing, eh? Were they just crashes or did they have an error message along with them @Mute64?

Big Box crashes shortly after starting up
Jason Carr replied to tribe fan's topic in Troubleshooting
Sure, try installing or reinstalling the latest version of the .NET framework and DirectX. -
Welp, here's another new beta. Found an issue with displaying the screenshots when videos don't exist, and also fixed some more crashes with spamming keypresses.
-
This is also the release candidate; I'm hoping to put out the official 6.8 release tomorrow morning.
-
I did just put out beta 10 guys to include the fixes we made in the live stream this morning. It's mostly just to prevent crashes when spamming switching views and entering games before the previous screen had refreshed. Also hoping this fixes any audio still playing issues with the VLC engine.
-
Thank you @Zombeaver. Hoping VLC is up to par now (sans for the missing videos happening occasionally) so we can put out the official release tomorrow.
-
You guys all using Big Box VLC without issues so far? Huh? Huh?
-
The official version will be out tomorrow if all goes as planned.
-
Okay, thank you @Antropus. Appreciate the update.
-
Ah, gotcha. Then that definitely makes sense.
-
Will do @DOS76. If your soundcard is internal I doubt it's the same issue as internal sound cards don't typically use USB.
-
Okay great. Thanks Cid. We'll leave it there for now, assuming it's working fine for most people.
