@ninken I'll note the request. There are a lot of places in Big Box that probably won't work well with touch without some significant development. Perhaps we can add it to the next community poll.
-
No, they shouldn't need to be installed via the Themes Manager. How are you changing the views?

Per the MAME discussions, I am aware of the issues there. I think the only solution that would please everyone at this point is to provide a power user feature where users would have to manually go and download files from around five different sites, and then LaunchBox would combine them together and build a custom database. I really wanted to avoid that, and I still do, but that's the only way to allow users full control over that process. We could certainly figure out a way to notify users of what MAME version LaunchBox is currently using, but I sincerely doubt that will be enough for people. Most likely, we'll put this on the next poll.

Is this specifically with Project64? Project64 is known to have some issues with the pause screens on some systems, at least with certain settings. You might try experimenting with the settings, using a different video plugin for Project64, or just using a different emulator. Game controls images are available from EmuMovies for arcade, but I'm not sure they're available for N64.

Hi @sards, please see here: The subfolders are just used for the region name on the files.

Hi Dave, those recent games with the LaunchBox logo are actually just games that don't have an image attached to them. Are you sure that they're actually launching another copy of Big Box? That part doesn't make sense, unless you've manually added BigBox.exe as a game in your collection.

I see, okay. If you're all the way up to date on video drivers, you might try going to Nvidia's site and looking for beta drivers, or even possibly looking for an older version, if by chance the newest version is bugged. I can't say 100% for sure that it's video driver related, but that would be my guess. Other than that, I would also try exiting all background apps to see if they might have anything to do with it.
-
I see. For some reason, it sounds like you're seeing WPF video corruption, which we do see from time to time, but it's always either related to background apps or faulty video drivers. I do apologize for the trouble. What video card do you have?

Any chance to get a pre-configured big box for arcade setup?
Jason Carr replied to 3dlollo's topic in Noobs
The good news is that it is easy to fix incorrect paths in LaunchBox. Just go platform by platform, press Ctrl+A to select all games, and then go to Tools > Change ROMs Folder Path for Selected Games. Should be an easy fix. -
I'll look into this further, but I get the same crash when I use that theme, so I suspect that it's somehow related to the theme.
-
It might be worth trying to turn off startup screens to see if it makes any difference. I'm betting it's still a one-off issue with certain video drivers or some other application conflict. Do check to see if you have the Nahimic service running under Windows services, as that is known to be a problematic service that causes similar issues across a bunch of apps.

@TOMIEuk Thanks for pointing this out. Yes, this was added to the games database a while ago, so you now have a means of resetting your collection.

BigBox crash while sitting idle doing attract mode

@MrSco We fixed a number of things for the 11.7 release that I'm betting will likely fix your issue, but it's hard to say for certain. -
LaunchBox for MS-DOS Special Edition
Jason Carr commented on Jason Carr's file in LaunchBox/Big Box Media
@liquidoblivion @Freddo @digital observer @theelf FYI guys, I'm currently working on version 3.0, which I'm writing entirely in 8086 assembly language instead of using VB for DOS 1.0 (which the previous versions were built with). Once I have the release ready, I do plan to release the source code for it in assembly language. The new version will work even on the original IBM 5150 PC (the very first PC), with CGA graphics. Naturally, though, it is taking quite a while to develop, partially because I'm only developing it in my free time, and also because I'm writing it in assembly language, which is as low level and as close to the hardware as you can get. It's currently usable if you take your LAUNCHBX.TXT file from the previous version, but the editing features are not built yet. It'll probably be at least 6 months before it's ready for a release (or longer). -
I'm not seeing the issue with the "Alt Views" version either, so I'm at a loss. What version did you use before that did not have the issue? Can you test to see if it's changed now?
-
@FR0NZ It's best to make sure that you're not changing resolutions when starting and exiting games; that could be part of the issue (though it still shouldn't be causing what's happening for you). Do you have startup screens turned on?
-
Newer versions of those themes use newer versions of those plugins, iirc. I know some of the themes that use eatkinola's plugins work fine (all of the ones that are available in the Themes Manager do). I think it may be though that the themes that use the video playback features of eatkinola's plugins are broken. Unfortunately there's not a whole lot we can do to fix that without eatkinola's code.
-
That is pretty strange. I just tested the theme and all seems to work fine for me. I do have the gap on the right on my machine. I don't know how this release would have tweaked anything that would have changed that, so I'm guessing it must somehow be unrelated. Have you changed resolutions or anything like that recently? Have you rebooted to check if it's still the same?
-
We are getting this squared away. Somehow or other, the license got spread around online, so we had to disable it because we stumbled on it elsewhere.
-
Also, make sure you don't have something called the Nahimic service running in your Windows services. That's a piece of software that's known to cause issues like that with a bunch of apps.
-
Okay, good to know, thanks. Unfortunately I think this probably caused by outdated or flawed video drivers; can you try updating your video drivers and running all Windows updates? The other thing that it could possibly be is a conflict with a background application, but the first thing to try is to update everything.
-
Can you try reverting to 11.6 to confirm if you still get the issue or not? We haven't changed anything for the game details for this release, so I suspect that it's not related to the betas. Also, what specific beta are you testing with?
-
No worries; I have this into beta 14, which I just put out. The plan is to finally release the official version tomorrow morning.
