  1. Don't forget Jason we'll kil- ... go to wa- ... help you in any way we can...
  2. Civil? the Internet? This just can't do! :P
  3. Jason, there is something to be said for precedent. It's common for IP Holder's to pursue any and all cases no matter how remote because precedent could kill them. Like Bethesda. Now I am not saying what so ever to sue these sites, but on download.com for example I know that the IP owner / Software developer / rights holder (whatever you want to be called?) can instead say, sure keep me in the searches and rank me but link to the site instead by my request. Which they honor. Extra sources for traffic is awesome but then its well if they can post the download then so can I! Not that you can ever make it all go away. xD Also Derek, no can of works really. Why can't we talk about these things? It's not like anyone on this thread is being uncivil. I mean... I can if you want me to be. I do a pretty good no pants dance. Edit: The word pointed out in my second paragraph is an example of being awake for too damn long. No can of worms*
  4. It's free software but not free to distribute. Why not just they link to the site? Maybe because I am so close to this software and you Jason, but that makes me feel uneasy. Though, to their average user they might not even know or care. I would just hate a general user to get a hold of the version that is 2+ years old and expect that that is it. Also, older versions don't have the update function. So they'd be stuck there essentially unless they went and downloaded the latest version or a version with it in.
  5. I'm not sure how unique it is. It is really common to increase DPI's when you use a PC on a TV and you sit farther away from it. I know Christina does it, and so do others who do the same thing and have to be back farther away. So what I am hearing Jason, the edit dialogue needs a redesign? ;)
  6. Out of curiosity the Standard installer should have also installed Media Player Classic assuming you left the settings alone, do videos play in there with just sound? That would eliminate if its an issue with WMP or Codec Based. Do video's now work in LB?
  7. Which is why I say run K-Lite, if there are some issues it can fix it will find them at the end of the install.
  8. Who said Jason doesn't listen? That's all he does is listen and he has to wade through a lot of crap. Just because someone thinks they know whats good for something doesn't make it right. I also am not saying those last two lines towards you or anyone else specifically on the forums, you should just see some of the flaming e-mails he gets. I think he actually posted one of them on here. xD Again, I never said XML scraping wouldn't be a thing, just remember Jason is alone when it comes to creating this software. So things can sometimes take a while. There is a giant list of things to add and problems to fix. That was all. Also Jason loves the support he does get. I wouldn't donate a majority of my day to answering forum posts if I didn't either. The GamesDB isn't perfect, but it is slowly getting better over time. I had to upload several entries myself. It is why we want our own database however, and when its up I'll be able to upload all the images I have set, and so will the others. It will be fairly complete. A files hash can be wrong just like the spelling of a name could be wrong too. Granted, not as easily wrong but still possible. It all comes with trade offs. Edit: Oh and yea, I assumed that it would be optional. Never a question there.
  9. If no MP4 file is playing at all in WMP then you might want to reinstall a codec pack. Get K-Lite Standard from their website and run it. The beauty of this one, when it gets to the end if it finds any issues or problems with codecs it will pop up and say so. You'll want to hit Ok so that K-Lite can try and fix them or replace them. Try this because WMP can play .mp4 files, it can even play .mkv files given the right codecs are installed.
  10. I never had LB move my files, so I never thought of this. Why not move them all over manually then scan the new folder? Just put them in a place that isn't going to move. LaunchBox doesn't have to move anything.
  11. XML scraping has been brought up in the past, but the chance that this specific program will get integrated is potentially very low. Jason will have his own standards for how he wants to handle it if he has time. Once our own database is live anything else would really be very niche and really only satisfy a few people. It hasn't really been widely requested at this point. I'm not saying it wont happen, but the system we have now works well. Ignoring stuff between the ( ) and [ ] is intentional otherwise scraping can be broken and the more logic that gets added in like say "Ignore parentheses, import, now add back in Disc or Disk + numbers and region if applicable", will slow down the import process severely. A File Hash can also be wrong. It's different depending on who ripped it and how, if its patched, if translated etc.
  12. Or when you do the import process select "Add Files". Top right of the new window that pops up will have a search box. Change the directory to the PS1 directory, then type *.cue, in the explorer window Ctrl + A then add. This is who I handle SNES, PS2 etc so i don't scan in saves or multiple disc files. Don't forget to select "Use Folder Name" if you need to.
  13. It's really screwed up when people can just act like this and no one does anything. Because its not illegal for her to be taking up the officers time. >.> People... people are "amazing". Well ok, some real people are. Let's guess which camp she falls in to.
  14. Custom Filter's will let you sort by the year it was released. It will let you select 2015, 2014 etc but that's as far as this will let you as of right now.
  15. She calls the cops for what... fun and video games? lmao.
  16. DDR Dance pads for PC are nothing new. :P Now let me say, I love PC. I love it to death. I also love my consoles. I am just a person who loves video games and technology. There are situations, like motion controls, which are better suited on their original platforms. However, I also love being able to play older games to preserve the console and cart / disc so they won't get destroyed. I also love the ability to essentially get the best possible image out of an older game. It would be the equivalent to RGB outputs on a console without modding, special cables and a Framemeister which alone costs $300. I love beautiful pixels (see my Pixel Art series on my channel ;P). PC's are amazing, they can do a lot more than the console ever intended to do, but that doesn't mean you should throw them out with the bath water lock stock and barrel... I am on a roll today. There is something to be said for both, and both can live and co-exist. Another example, I LOVE my console JRPG's, I am ECSTATIC that my favorite JRPG series 'Tales of' Games are starting to come to Steam, so is Final Fantasy. I hope Dragon Quest is next from SE.
  17. Well LaunchBox is meant to be portable, not that it can't be with a method closer to Kodi. I personally don't mind the way its setup now. LB is its own product. Not to mention, this isn't really all that hard to do honestly and it works just fine. The bigger feature for me that would require LB being more "self aware" of its library on the OS side would be deleting a game in LB and being given the choice to delete the rom / folder.
  18. Well you can do Game -> Add Game (Ctrl + N) but this would only be one game at a time, and you have to manually setup all the information where as the import process will setup most of the information you need based on the system you select. So it's faster for me to do the rom import again even if it is just 1 game, but it's really essentially if you have multiple games to add.
  19. Oh, there is also an easy way to rescan all of your games to update metadata too. Select a system from the left, Ctrl + A inside of the system. At the top go to Tools -> Download Images and Metadata. There will be an option to select how you want it to handle the incoming metadata.
  20. How I do this essentially is I will setup my library, like Nintendo DS. If I add a game to my rom list and want to add it to LB I just rescan my Nintendo DS games folder. It will not add any duplicates unless you tell it to, and it will think games are duplicates based on their file name not the name you give them in LB. So if you rename a game in LB and rescan it won't try and re-add it. When adding games, I prefer to 'Add Files' instead of 'Add Folder'. This let's me make sure I am adding all the correct games. For emulators that load several different file extensions this is great. I use the "Search Windows" function in the top right when I am looking at a rom list. For SNES I do *.sfc in the search box and then Ctrl + A for all of the items it finds then press add. I would then repeat the search for *.smc, etc. It's also handy for disc based systems. If a game has an iso and a cue sheet, depending on the emulator, you only need one of these.
  21. All BIOS for all cores will go in to your System directory which is located in your RA root directory. If it doesn't exist then create it. You'll also want to make sure that inside of RA your path settings are all correct and make sure that RA knows where the 'system' folder is located. As well, the BIOS will need to be named something specific. For example, PS1 BIOS need to be labeled spch5001, etc. There would be more required, but you get the idea. More documentation: http://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Using_RetroArch
  22. The roms need to stay their odd names because of MAME, and since you imported it that way the images are off. This is why though LB hasn't as of yet officially supported MAME because of the whole naming thing. Jason hasn't had the time to build in the MAME.dat files that decode each of the games names. Once this is built in to LB, the names wouldn't need to be changed on the users side.
  23. Right, that's why I was saying make it a right click sub menu, where you can add any number of pdf or doc files.
  24. It's not a single file its several hundreds, and it's probably going to really large.
  25. A sub menu for this would be good. Right click -> PDF's -> Then you set up what ever you want and call it what ever you want. Some of those GOG games have way more than just the manual for DOS games. Cluebook, Map, Manual, AP Code Wheel etc.
