It's been requested many times, for sure. I don't know if there is a ticket, and if you really can't find one them just make one. There also isn't a LaunchBox.xml anymore, they were split in to many XML's quite a while ago. They're all in that Data folder. You can mark games broken, and I think the best solution would be to bake that in to the Audit screen where you can mark, edit and un mark broken games, but there isn't an easy way to currently show all broken games. I am also confident there are Audit related tickets as well. Just remember, there is A LOT for Jason to do and he is one man, so sometimes things might take a while if not a lot of people are asking for it.

BigBox Performance and How to Make it Better
SentaiBrad replied to Lordmonkus's topic in Troubleshooting
Resource Monitor is ok, and will work just fine in this instance. I personally use other software, but that will work in this case. -
unconfirmed issue Adding additional mame roms issue
SentaiBrad replied to Thatman84's topic in Troubleshooting
Those games that are just opening up the Zip, they aren't attached to an emulator; at least that's how it seems to be. Click on the platform effected on the left, then click on a game, Ctrl + A to highlight everything then right click -> edit a game. From the first (only now) drop down, select emulator. From the second choose the emulator you need them to use. Now try again. -
Yea, I've had to clear metadata and images in the edit panel, then rescan for a new game several times. It can very easily happen to too generic of game titles most easily.

Box - Front - Reconstructed vs. Fanart - Box - Front
SentaiBrad replied to ChillPenguin's topic in Contributions
Reconstructed means that the cover is a mimic of the original, but re-drawn, photoshoped or anything else you could have done to literally reconstruct it for a higher resolution. Color correction only doesn't count. Actually re-building it or replacing art on it for higher resolution stuff is reconstructing it. Fanart Cover means someone created a completely new cover for it, not like the original, making it a fan art creation. Edit: To fix this, click on the images tab for that game, then the image and then edit. Edit the category and wait for approval. -
Big Box Mode Crashed after new Windows 10 Creators Update 1703
SentaiBrad replied to blackstar1's topic in Troubleshooting
I don't think it has anything to do with LaunchBox honestly. Another thread in here said something about their drivers being bad, and at first I thought that updating drivers or codecs wouldn't help, but maybe updating drivers would. I use IOBit Driver Booster for all my drivers, and it's phenomenal. I would try that, and if your graphics drivers don't get updated re-install them just in case. As well as the .Net Framework stuff, Uninstalling it, restarting and re-installing it would be best. It not installing right because it's already installed is something it does and I forgot. -
Sure, I get that, I was just wanting to put it out there that I don't think it's a requirement anymore.
-
I'm trying to come up with why and am at a complete loss this time around... There are no BIOS requirements for SMS and Genesis, the core name is correct, you obviously have it working outside of LB so the core is downloaded, nothing is corrupted in the config. Just to make double sure, can we see a screenshot of the Emulator Details tab?
-
If it's not in the details pane on the right, go to Tools -> Options -> Game Details (on the left). In here check the video box (you can also edit the other options here too). Click ok, and you should be good. If you want to make it auto-play, then also go to View -> Auto-Play Videos. All of these options also have nothing to do with Big Box too. These options are for in LB only.

Big Box Mode Crashed after new Windows 10 Creators Update 1703
SentaiBrad replied to blackstar1's topic in Troubleshooting
Beta's don't make you lose anything. It is a beta, so something might happen, you should make a backup of your LaunchBox/Data folder at the very least if you're worried, but nothing bad should really happen. Enable the beta check box in the LB options and restart LB. -
Yea, root names is a problem. If a game shares a part of it's name with another game, regardless of anything else, it can get found easily and this is a prime example. I've seen reports of this several times in the past and there's no real way to fix sadly. Also, to make things easier next time, load up LaunchBox and edit the game in question. Check the path and it will tell you exactly what rom it's using. I even have the rom file name in my game details bar set to on.

My mother in law turned off her password, and she still uses the network to stream to her PS4 with the Universal Media Server.

BigBox Performance and How to Make it Better
SentaiBrad replied to Lordmonkus's topic in Troubleshooting
You can try to reduce the image quality and remove or choose less demanding transitions. Did you follow the other options to make LB/BB lean and mean? A performance monitor could help you figure out if your system is pinging anywhere. Make sure your install is still not caching images as well, that will make things slow down until it's done. -
Yes and yes. Windows 10 has been a fantastic OS. I think the best one Microsoft has ever made, legitimately. It requires some tweaks, like any OS, but it can also be made to run leaner and meaner. The logout and login screen customization is totally possible. Some can be done within the OS out of the box, like bypassing the need for the password. You go in to the account settings and remove the need for a password. As for those screens, I choose to use a program called Display Fusion. It's primarily for multi-screen PC's, but it has many many more uses, and altering those screens is one of them. I bought a license and put it on my ours PC's (my wife and me), and it works great. There is free software out there that can do this too, but you'd have to do some Googling. There's a lot you can do, and it's a google search away, like the password thing (mostly cause I can't remember it exactly).

And if you use software rendering modes that will use only your CPU and no GPU. If an emulator has that option, then you know right away if it's using a combination of the two. Some may not give it and use the GPU too. Like RetroArch has that option for some cores, but not all, but if you use a Shader it will use GPU regardless, because it's post processing. Some of the more demanding emulators will start to use multiple CPU cores, people are becoming wise to this. Also, finally, more and more emulators are taking advantage of 64bit processing too. There is more than a RAM limit when talking 32bit and 64bit, but RAM for the more demanding stuff (like CEMU and RPSC3 I would imagine) will help in the long run rather than hurt it. Hell, those emulators are 64bit only.

MAME games won't load anymore after updating to 0.184
SentaiBrad replied to Fygee's topic in Troubleshooting
Yea, screenshots will help please. -
You can go about this 2 ways and you should even be able to mix the two as well. Go to Tools -> Manage Platforms. Double click on a platform. There are two lines at the bottom, Category and Sort Title. I haven't tested this combo, but you can set the categories to custom values (you can see this by changing the view in LB by clicking the drop down box at the top of the left column to Platform Categories), and then the sort value should then take place within each category. So the Custom Categories have their own sort, then you have the platforms them selves under each category that will follow the sort title field. If you want to forgo the Categories, then just setting the Sort Titles will work too.

There is more you can do as a whole to your system to help things run smoothly as well: As for RetroArch and Mednafen, RA is honestly one of, if not the best emulator out there. It's standardizing stuff across multiple emulators and systems that no one else has ever done. If you make your system a bit more lean from that thread, and make RA lean, then there is the potential that things can run more smoothly. Like Monkus said though, the Saturn is stupid complicated, and requires a bit more power as a result. Certain emulators and cores are like that, like the Bsnes Accuracy core requiring around a 3Ghz CPU. If you're comfortable with overclocking, and it's available on your CPU, that is a potential to increase it a little bit, but without good cooling too high might damage your CPU. We also have tons of tutorials on the channel as well if you're interested, a lot (but not all) dealing with RetroArch. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6pTDaHeAz-WMcNURVPU-1xLN_TVpT3FB

And even then Separate Arcade platforms are most likely going to be merged with Arcade. Most of those games can run under a single emulator, with the exception of Taito. However, custom platforms and playlists make having that many platforms kind of a joke. It's actually much more confusing I think than helpful. If you know for a fact all that info is under Arcade that you want, instead of guessing which to pick, you name your platform, scrape it as Arcade, and force the MAME Metadata every time.
-
There are emulators that use the GPU: PCSX2, Dolphin and CEMU come to mind right away, but Monkus is correct. Most don't and most do single core operations. To be fair to them too, they don't really need to use more than a single core for emulation. NES emulation is fairly painless for example. Even something like Bsnes Accuracy, which has a decent CPU requirement, is most likely single core.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking for. What I think you are asking for though is not quite how it works. Video and front box art are two completely separate areas. Different views have different positions and different image choices, but for the most part the two never replace each other. You'll need to go in to the options, and check your controller or keyboard options, check what you have the Switch View option to or set it yourself. Go back to the platforms list or games list and press the switch view button until you find one you like. If you're asking something else just let me know.

I'd rather see Database improvements. We have quite a lot of awesome features, making sure everything is cohesive and getting that database whipped up I feel should be top, but yea. @Jason Carr will take the top and go with that.

Exiting PPSSPP 1.4 with controller automation crashes PPSSPP
SentaiBrad replied to ckp's topic in Troubleshooting
I just tested it and got no crash. As dumb as this sounds, have you fully restarted recently? I've seen that fix some extremely odd bugs.
