  1. Just brainstorming about what could be a unique and useful feature... In the days before battery saves, many old games used passwords to allow you to start where you left off. Writing passwords down on a piece of paper is OK. Keeping a .txt file filled with passwords is a little better. And keeping passwords inside LaunchBox using a Custom Field is close to perfect! But it could be even better. What if LB supported a popup controlled by a global hotkey (CTRL-ALT-P perhaps). When you play through a game and get a password, hit pause, hit the hotkey, and a window pops up asking for the Level and the Password. Maybe entries can even get timestamped. Then close the window and keep playing. Later, when you start playing again, hit the hotkey, find the password you want, type it in, and go! Not sure if such a thing can be implement or not, but it sure would be nice :)
  2. I read that those don't support 2560x1440 so I can't use it with my monitor. And if I use it to send video to my receiver, I will be in the same boat as I am now since DVI doesn't carry audio. Unless I'm completely wrong, which is entirely possible :)
  3. I got a new monitor, and now everything is broken. My old monitor used DVI, and I had my TV hooked up to my PC via HDMI. If I turned on my receiver, it would automatically mirror video from my PC and it would pick up the audio. Easy. Now my new monitor is also HDMI, and my video card only has one HDMI output. If I hotswap, my PC doesn't always recognize my receiver as a new audio device, so sometimes I have to restart with my PC connected to my TV (via the receiver) in order to get sound. It's a pain in the ass. So I bought an HDMI switch. It switches video fine, but since my monitor doesn't have audio, it doesn't send audio when I switch my my receiver. So I'm in the same boat as before, but now I push a button and restart instead of hot-swapping a cable. So I bought a digital audio cable. It works great! But my receiver won't let me create a source with HDMI as the video input and digital as the audio input. So the cable doesn't do me much good, other than just streaming audio to my receiver. Is there a simple solution I'm overlooking? Am I asking too much? Bah!
  4. Trying different BIOS files is really necessary. I had to go through 4 or 5 before I got TurboGrafx-CD games working. But now I have Mugen Senshi Valis running with a beautiful CRT filter, and I'm happy as can be :D
  5. Go into Settings and Directory and make sure the System/Bios path is set correctly. I had to change set, it wasn't seeing the System folder automatically. If that doesn't work, try a new BIOS. Some of the cores are picky.
  6. I think that many people here will appreciate the magic that is foobar2000. It's an immensely powerful audio player that supports full user customization. Here is my current config: I've been using foobar for many years, and I'm happy to help new users get started with this great program!
  7. Emulator or simulator? Either way, I'm grateful for DICE. It's a fantastic project. Thanks for the write-up!
  8. Not me. An HDMI cable to connect my PC to my TV is cheaper :) Anyway I want to save my money for one of those hot new iPad Pro tablets for reading comics!
  9. I'm a Colorado native but I've never been to any of those spots. I'll have to fix that! I spent the long weekend in Utah and had a lovely time. Rattle snakes, barbecue, quicksand, ancient art, mosquito bites, shooting stars, backpacking, bear tracks, and much more. A great weekend! (Other than being stuck in traffic for 2 hours coming back into Denver on I-70. Yuck!)
  10. RL plays nice with LaunchBox. Just set it up once as an emulator (just the path to the .exe), then set up each system in the lower half of the emulator setup screen. The command line parameters are pretty simple: http://www.rlauncher.com/wiki/index.php?title=RocketLauncher_Command_Line_Parameters
  11. I have solved this by filtering down to just the .cue files in my PS1 folder by running a search for for *.cue, then dragging the .cue files from the search results window into LaunchBox to initiate the ROM import wizard. Regarding your DOS games, if they are already "installed" then you can use the above method to import .exe, .com, and .bat files (though this will likely grab setup files and other things that you don't want to import). If they are not installed or setup, then there isn't much you can do other than setting them up one at a time.
  12. Nice designs! Here are some great images that you might find useful, with transparent PNG available for most: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Evan-Amos And lots of vector logos, including many video game consoles: http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/ A few suggestions: I don't know if GIMP has a pen tool like Photoshop, but if it does, it's worth looking into. It's a great way to create vector masks and cut images out of backgrounds cleanly. Also, some of the console/handheld images have distorted aspect ratios (too squashed top-to-bottom or left-to-right). While this helps them fill the background circle more fully, to me it makes some of them look weird, like the Lynx and the ColecoVision.
  13. You just need to add Metal Slug 6 which you can emulate with DEmul, and Metal Slug 7 which you can emulate with DeSmuME.
  14. Wow! What a fantastic collection :) I absolutely love the Neo Geo arcade games. Amazing pixel art, great gameplay - lots of funn all around. I never played 6 or 7 since they go for pre-rendered backgrounds, they just don't look right to me. Are all those other games worth checking out? The mobile and flash games. I didn't even know they existed. That soundtrack is fantastic. I grabbed in in FLAC a few months ago. One of my favorites.
  15. tony971 said Advantages of VBA-M: Shaders and Dolphin connectivity (both of which are on the to-do list for mGBA) Advantages of mGBA: Faster, more accurate (it actually runs the classic NES games that put in a bunch of anti-emulation measures), and rewinding. If you use mGBA via RetroArch you have access to plenty of nice shaders :) I personally don't like playing with borders, but you have to admit this is pretty cool.
  16. sagaopc said A new method to run Dreamcast with demul without personalize all manual games Why so complicated? I just batch-imported .gdi files for 258 Dreamcast games and they launch just fine.
  17. Cores don't come packed with the installer anymore - you have to actively download them. So I don't suppose it matters much which core is set as default in LB - if the user hasn't downloaded that core, it won't mean a thing. Honestly if someone uses RetroArch I would guess they know what they know their way around the command line and don't need help setting default emulator options :)
  18. SentaiBrad said I also wonder how it compared to the GBA cores in RetroArch. There's a libretro core for mGBA. It's the one I use as a matter of fact.
  19. Haha I basically have the same PC, right down to the graphics card. The only difference is my SSD is a little smaller. It's taking 4-5 seconds now to open a game properties window, which slows down my progress of fixing broken covers quite a lot. I guess "completely overwhelmed" was an overstatement, but it's definitely not as snappy as it was with just a few hundred games in it...
  20. 8462 games now, and LaunchBox is completely overwhelmed :( I guess I'll stick with a simpler frontend for my full sets, and use LB to host my favorite games (which I won't be able to select without poking through the stuff I have in my full sets!)
  21. Certainly - that's what the whole bottom half of the emulator setup window is for :) Here is a quick example, I have one emulator set up with three different platforms. In this particular instance I don't need different CLI switches for each one, but it helps keep things tidy in terms of platform association. In your case, just add Magic Engine as the emulator, then for each platform, you can add different CLI switches.
  22. Oh I didn't even consider PS2, I didn't realize emulation had come far enough for most titles to be playable. I'll add it to my list :) So far this is what I am considering: Atari Jaguar Atari Lynx NEC TurboGrafx-16 NEC TurboGrafx-CD NeoGeo CD Nintendo 64 Nintendo DS Nintendo Entertainment System Nintendo Game Boy Nintendo Game Boy Advance Nintendo Game Boy Color Nintendo GameCube Nintendo SNES Nintendo Virtual Boy Nintendo Wii Nintendo WiiWare Panasonic 3DO Phillips CD-i Sega CD Sega Dreamcast Sega Genesis Sega Master System Sega Saturn Sony PlayStation Sony PSP (still looking for a good source for these) MAME (not sure if I'll add these to LB, I can't find a good way to scrape metadata, or even titles for that matter. And what images do you use?)
  23. I haven't defined an end-goal yet. Right now I'm just grabbing as much as I can and having fun with LaunchBox. I have all USA games for about 25 systems so far (with a small hand-picked selection of EUR and JAP releases), but obviously they're not all added to LB yet. So far I'm mostly sticking with popular systems from Nintendo, Sega, Sony, Atari, and NEC - but I'll probably expand later to include the little guys as well. I'll post updates as I add mroe games. Right now I'm sorting through 1600+ Nintendo DS roms, and PS1 and Dreamcast are downloading from my seedbox as I type, so I have my work cut out for me :) Eventually I'll be tagging my favorite franchises and games for quick access, but for now, I'm just is mass-upload mode...
  24. Thanks Jason! I understand that it's better to err on the side of caution. But I do look forward to the day that LB supports user plugins so we can scrape form more sites. Out of 1602 Nintendo DS ROMs, nearly 1000 were not found by the scraper. This is going to take a while to clean up :)
