  1. One thing you could do for now is to make a platform called something like "Tools" and put shortcuts to useful little utilities like this in there.
  2. No, we don't. Because with current displays we cannot replicate a CRT with 100% accuracy. Maybe in a few years time it will be possible with the new displays coming having the resolution, pixel density and brightness. Everyone has their own personal opinion and tastes in how a CRT effect "should" look. Also everyone has a different size and type of display which will have an effect on how a particular shader effect will look. The beauty with HLSL is that is it so customizable we can tweak it to our own personal tastes. There is so much "personal subjectivity" when it comes to shaders and CRT effects the discussion gets way out of control in a hurry.
  3. I have uploaded a new HLSL setup here: I think these new settings are much better.
  4. Mame HLSL ver 2 View File This is a new version of HLSL settings I have been using recently and I find them much more "accurate" than my previous settings found here: To use this simply enable HLSL in your mame.ini by setting hlsl_enable to 1 instead of 0 and dropping this raster.ini file into your \Mame\ini\presets folder. Backup your old one first just in case you do not like this one. I do not take any credit for these settings at all. I got these from the youtube channel Big Blue Frontend and his custom 186 version of Mame he uploaded. As always with shaders there are several factors that have an effect in how they look such as display type (TN vs IPS) size and resolution and of course personal preference. 6. I have not and Launchbox should have zero effect on whether HLSL does or does not work. Launchbox is only loading Mame, it has nothing to do with its configuration or its functionality beyond the launching of the emulator and game.
  7. If you are new to Retroarch I suggest taking a look at my Retroarch guide here:
  8. Launchbox is DRM free so sharing is possible but severely frowned upon. Being DRM free makes life for the user much easier when it comes to using it on multiple PCs. Just know that @Jason Carr is the sole developer of it and paying for it allows him to work on it full time and support his family. Because of this we get constant updates with new features quickly. You aren't funding a large faceless corporation, you are helping the best front end and emulation community on the net. Money well spent even if your friend even just buys the one year license and upgrades later.
  9. If caught sharing your license you will be shamed and mocked publicly and then your license will be blacklisted preventing any future updates.
  10. I highly doubt this will work well for you. I have a laptop with and AMD integrated laptop and HLSL did not run work well at all with it.
  11. It was designed for CRT use but you aren't confined to CRT use only, it can be used with LCD displays.
  12. Yeah, I have used GroovyMame in the past. It got a little messed up back when Mame went full open source because some of the stuff in it wasn't open source. It may have gotten back up to speed though, I haven't looked at it in a while. You could always just use Retroarch Mame as well with rawinput and its other input lag reduction.
  13. Skip in to 2:00 where he talks about d3dex. I have no idea if his other custom builds have d3dex built in or not, I only know his 186 build does.
  14. That's from the same game so if you are using one of his custom compiled builds then you could very well be using a build that has d3dex in it. As far as I am aware of default Mame does not.
  15. There is a difference in that custom compiled version I linked. It has d3dex support which reduces input lag but atleast 1 extra frame (16.67ms @ 60Hz) compared to the standard Mame build which doesn't have d3dex support built in. And judging by the docs that @DOS76 linked Mame defaults to rawinput if it's available when set to auto. Input lag is one of those things that isn't just one single thing that removes it or reduces it to its minimum, it's a combination of several different things that gets it to its lowest possible amount. Edit: You do get to a point though where you are shaving tiny amounts off where it can be imperceptible. The largest source of input lag is in the display you are using or it can be depending on what you are using.
  16. Yup, it's one of those things where it starts out with good intentions and it goes tits up in a hurry if incorrectly handled and it's very difficult to handle correctly. Like they say "The road to hell is paved with good intentions"
  17. I know you didn't mean it to be controversial. I have just seen enough discussions on the internet about similar subjects of money for content that is traditionally viewed as free so I know just how fast shit can go downhill. I know this isn't exactly the same thing but the whole paid mods for Skyrim on Steam fiasco is one example. I was just putting my warning out there in case people got their panties in a bunch and starting bitching and talking shit.
  18. I have absolutely zero opinion on this matter but I can see how this can turn into a very touchy subject quickly. Just to get in front of this right now, if this thread goes any further I highly recommend people think before they post and keep it civil or I will shut it down in a hurry.
  19. I've been using this guys custom compiled version of Mame 186 where he has D3D9ex built into it which has lower input latency than the normal Mame and normal D3D. This custom compiled version has the nag screens disabled as well as really killer looking HLSL settings. If you decide to try it out generate your mame.ini file with the command mame64.exe -cc and then set your video to d3d and hlsl_enable to 1. Watch this guys videos at your own peril, he comes off as a total prick but he knows his stuff.
