Now this is a theme that speaks to me, looking forward to trying this one out.

Some emulators can read roms zipped and need to be extracted before running but some systems like arcade games and Mame you don't want to extract them.

Yeah 4.5 GHz is way more than enough for the accuracy core, 3 GHz is the recommended speed for it. You don't need to delete any cores if you don't want to. Just download the new core and edit the command line parameters in Launchbox in the Retroarch Associated Platforms window to use the core you downloaded. If you do want to delete the old core go into the cores folder in your Retroarch folder and delete it.

Yes the same core will work for Super Famicom games. If you have a decent CPU you can use the BSnes Balanced or Accuracy cores and those would be better than Snes9x in terms of compatibility. The Accuracy core claims 100% compatibility while the Balanced is basically 99% with one game having a small graphical glitch. Here is a link for Retroarch info including a pretty good recommended cores list. The Saturn core listed is out of date though since the Mednafen Saturn core is now available. http://www.powerup.io/gaming/emulators/retroarch

Don't make me get the dick flicking bear gif.

For punishment make him watch Golden Girls on loop for hours on end.

I saw this and I just could not resist the urge to share.

Yes, CPU is the only thing that matters when it comes to the raw emulation speed and quality of emulation. The GPU comes in when you start resolution scaling and using shaders.

Here's another little secret but don't tell anyone. If someone really can't get a license legitimately and they are really polite and ask Jason nicely he might just give them one. There is just no point in worrying about people who steal the software, all you end up with is a headache over something you can't do anything about. Rule of life, worry about what you can control and just accept what you can't control. I believe Jason is able to make Launchbox his job and support his family because of his approach to being DRM free and providing a quality product worth the money. Using The Witcher 3 and CDProjekt Red as an example, that game is awesome and DRM free and out sold so many other games out there due to the good will of CDPR.

My opinion on it is simply this. Who cares ? And I don't mean that in a bad way. It's just a case of there is nothing that can be done to prevent people from cracking and pirating software. No matter how much time, money and energy is spent on fighting it all you achieve in the end is you are now tired and have less money. Look at all the money spent by big AAA game studios to combat piracy and it prevents nothing. Some people do live in places in the world where actually purchasing a license is not an option so if they feel they need to use a crack to get BigBox features then so be it. If someone uses a crack and decides they really like the software they may end up buying it after. Win people over with DRM free goodness (looking at CD Projekt Red) and in the end there will be more sales than frustrating legitimate users with shitty DRM schemes (looking at UbiSoft) and people will just not bother. I could keep going but there is no point. If someone on these forums are using a crack because they cannot legitimately buy the software because of location and credit card rules then so be it, I won't hold a grudge. If you use a crack or shared a license file and like the software please consider purchasing your own license, you aren't stealing from EA or UbiSoft here, you are stealing from 1 person, Jason.

My biggest gripe with the stand alone FBA is the controller setup, it's just very awkward and has to be done for every single game it seems unless I missed something in the controller setup.
-
Yeah for sure, the people who haven't made the switch are generally people who invested a lot of time in getting Hyperspin all setup and don't want to ditch all of that time inversted for something else.
-
Mednafen is pickier about the disk images than SSF or Yabause.
-
In the poll over on Emumovies Launchbox has taken the lead over Hyperspin. http://emumovies.com/forums/topic/10423-emumovies-front-end-poll-16/ Not sure when this happened but when I last checked a week or two ago Launchbox was behind by about 8%.

I don't know where the tipping point for CPU speed and performance is. If you need to squeeze out a bit of speed make sure you have Hard Gpu Sync On (should be on anyways) but then bump Hard Gpu Sync Frames to 1 and see what happens. If you still aren't quite there in smoothness you can turn on Threaded Video, it may introduce a tiny bit of input lag but it shouldn't be noticeable. I have Threaded Video On but I also use a very heavy shader (Kurozumi-Royale).

Yeah, check the box and restart Launchbox.

For me before the beta switching platforms took on average about 5-6 seconds and now it's 1-2 seconds.

Here is what Jason said over in the beta discussion thread: "Just put out a new beta; I focused primarily on performance in LaunchBox when switching between platforms. I improved the rendering, caching, and data population routines all to be more performant. It was actually the rendering/painting operations that were causing the biggest amounts of lag when switching between filters and repopulating the boxes. The single biggest performance gain came from caching the rendered text that is displayed below the games. The caching routines have been significantly cleaned up and also simplified. Previously LaunchBox would cache images in the background, but this was causing quite a bit of confusion ("Why is LaunchBox using so much CPU usage!?") as well as hurting the performance elsewhere a tad. In this beta, images will only be cached once they've been scrolled to. However, we now do a much better job of refreshing the images that are actually displayed on the screen first, so I don't think this will be much of an issue. That said, leaving LaunchBox overnight will no longer automatically cache all of the images. We may add that back in based on the feedback from these betas." Basically he separated the xml into smaller ones and changed the rendering. So far I have not run into any problems with the latest beta.

Performance gains in the new beta are

Oh I thought you meant the new core as of a recent update. Yeah, I have been using the Retroarch Mednafen core since it got released
-
Ahh makes sense. Still a nice boost in performance though Go get your wife to give you a big sloppy kiss for me

I haven't been playing any Saturn games for a few days. Why ? Anything I should be aware of ?

Did you do something to reduce ram usage as well ? I notice now on a fresh load it's using about 460 megs of ram versus 1.8 gigs before. Could just be the reload but I have reloaded in the past and had no effect on ram usage.
