Setup different arcade settings as different platforms
Lordmonkus replied to 3dlollo's topic in Noobs
I can understand that. We wont tell if you download a rom set somewhere if you don't tell Unfortunately there is not, even though a rom might have the same name it may be a completely different dump with different rom files in the zip file so for example, a Pac-Rom from 2003 may not work with the latest version of Mame even though the file name is identical. This would be a very old rom set. -
Setup different arcade settings as different platforms
Lordmonkus replied to 3dlollo's topic in Noobs
You can easily import them into their own platforms but you will want to have the appropriate emulator for each rom set to ensure the best compatibility with each set. My advice if at all possible for you is to download the latest or at least closest to the latest Mame rom set you can get and break them up in LB using playlists. This way would be one rom set and one emulator, Mame has all the games that FBA has plus more, FBA has nothing that isn't in Mame at all. -
Ah ok, the Escape key on the keyboard should work without issue and if it doesn't I don't know what to tell you since that is the default key in Mame and I have never had and issue with it.

Did you setup a controller automation button combo to close out your emulators in BigBox ?

If anyone has the DOS version of MegaMan installed I will ban them from the forums

This is a very subjective topic but you can "improve" the look with the use of shaders which some emulators support such as Retroarch and Mame. You can mimic the look of a CRT TV or you can use a "smoothing" shader to smooth the edges which is a personal preference thing, some people like that look while others like myself hate it, personally I like to use CRT effect shaders.

Oh, I can't help you there, I don't use RL at all. -

Without screenshots we can only guess but make sure you have the right core selected in Launchbox and make sure that your platform name is correctly matched. -

Retroarch has the option of what monitor it launches on so I would stick with it.
-
Depends on the emulator, some allow you to set which monitor to start up on. If the emulator doesn't allow for this you may have to look into 3rd party apps to do it.

Did you restart Launchbox after downloading the cores ?

Anyone use a N64 controller with m64p (Mupen64Plus + GLideN64)?
Lordmonkus replied to Avenger's topic in Emulation
No clue because I have never used one myself but supposedly they are just plug and play, I would imagine there would be some setup in the emulator to map your controls like with any controller and emulator. -
What Launchbox Version is Windows 7 64-Bit supports?
Lordmonkus replied to Justine Randell's topic in Collections and Builds
You should be able to install .NET 4.7 if your Windows 7 is up to date, I have an old PC with Win 7 and the latest version of LB with .NET 4.7. -
Sure, you can right click the file and in the properties make it read only.

Anyone use a N64 controller with m64p (Mupen64Plus + GLideN64)?
Lordmonkus replied to Avenger's topic in Emulation
From what I have read and seen 3rd party USB N64 controllers are pretty bad compared to originals. If you care about quality controls I would either look for a good condition original or look into the RetroFighters N64 controller, it's gotten good reviews among the retro gaming community. https://retrofighters.com/ The Raphnet adapters are very good and low lag. -
No problem.
-
You should have a .cue file with those .bin files, import the .cue file only, that is the file the emulator needs.

No worries, you caught me on a good night Since you are new to emulation I would suggest you start off with my Beginners Guide to Emulation: No soldering is necessary at all. You can get that deep into it if you wish but it is by no means something anyone ever needs to do, I sure as hell don't Start off with my guide above and get one of the simpler systems and emulators up and running, Snes9x for SNES or Mesen for NES emulation is a great starting point. Once you get games working in an emulator then you can move on to getting that all hooked up in Launchbox. We have our channel and ETAPrime, he does awesome guides on getting emulators and games all working in Launchbox. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSIht6UXIEXIgz4eXAEShxA This is a weird topic of discussion because yeah you can get into emulation on low budget hardware or you can spend a lot of money on a high end rig. It sort of all depends just how far up the chain of systems you want to emulate, the further you want to go with the more modern systems such as Wii U or PS3 the more powerful the hardware you will need but older lower end systems you can get away with much lesser hardware. Now having said that I would never recommend the lowest of low end you can get for emulation such a Pi. While the Pi can do some stuff adequately there is more input lag because of settings that have to be sacrificed for speed. More powerful hardware will also allow you to use much better emulators which have fewer graphics or audio glitches. It really comes down to budget and how much you are willing to put into an emulation system, @ETAPRIME has great videos showing off some budget friendly builds that won't break the bank while provided enough power to have an enjoyable experience. There are several issues with pre-build drives and images, especially the PC ones for HyperSpin or Launchbox. I mentioned above the legality and possible virus, malware and keyloggers but also WHEN, not if something breaks you have no clue how it all works so you can't fix it. It really isn't all that difficult to learn how to do it all and you will know how to fix it when something goes wrong. You will also know how to update it with new games or emulators because there are always new and better emulators coming along. As always you are welcome to ask questions here, we have a very active and helpful community here on the forums and our Discord channel as well if you want to jump in and chat and ask questions: https://discord.gg/SPBTqj

First off, welcome to the forums and the world of emulation. Here you will find all sorts of helpful information regarding emulation in general but mostly about Launchbox specifically. Now for the part where you may think I am being a bit of a jerk though I don't mean to be. We are not a Pi or Odroid support site, there are other sites out there that cater to that crowd. We also do not support those who buy pre-loaded emulation setups, they are illegal and profit off of other peoples work so we will not condone or support that behavior. We also have no clue in the world what is in those setups and there are nightmare stories out there where these pre-loaded sellers install viruses and key loggers to steal information from buyers. If you want help with Launchbox and getting yourself setup and running with it by all means stick around and we will do what we can to help you out. We have a ton of guides here on the forums and our YouTube channel to help you get started.

You shouldn't need any command line arguments at all, just set everything up in the GUI. I say that it shouldn't because in the older version I have (before the paywall) it is that way.
-
Yeah it works great.

It's not the core, it's the full stand alone build with the GlideN64 plugin. https://m64p.github.io/ The GlideN64 plugin is the secret sauce right now to make N64 emulation the best it can be currently and that plugin is baked into the core as well.
