Shaders, etc is a whole can of worms I haven't even began to experiment with yet in any emulator. I figured I should just go for a baseline of working first, fancy later.
-
After banging my head against the wall a week or so ago encountering annoying little glitches my usual solution was to hell with increased resolution and shoved it on software mode.
-
I'll have a play with both and see which I prefer. I'm still very much in the experimentation phase of this whole emulation lark. I've never done anything more in depth than play the odd GBA game in VBA or putting a few mame roms on an OG Xbox prior to starting to look into this a couple of weeks back.

I've been considering spectabis but I think I'm going to see how it goes with the configurator first. Seems better not to throw another app in the mix uneccessarily. Also iirc you have to add games in LB using spectabis as the emulator and let it pass you through to PCSX2. Seems like an extra step of potential complications.

Does anyone know of a good way to handle this with different controllers? Not all controllers have the same buttons, for example an arcade stick has no R3/L3 equivalent and a Gamecube pad has no select button.
-
In Bigbox you can enable controller automation to set a button combination on the controller to close the program, in this case the emulator.
-
Theres also a handy PCSX2 configurator plugin that lets you have seperate settings per game which if you are using Hardware modes is essential as there are no one size fits all settings in this emulator.

I've done a bit of messing with PCSX2 a week or so back. I dont have it to hand right now for specific setting names though. My first advice though would be if you are using the officially released build dump it for one of the dev builds, they have added a lot since the last release. In the "HW Hacks" section of the graphics plugin settings there is are some tick boxes. There are one or 2 there specifically for getting rid of those line that are most common in Namco games. The interlacing wont fix stuff like that. I meant to use that when you said things looked blurry. Tbh most of the time its fine on auto but on the odd game it seems to get it wrong. Ace combat 4 is one example. IIRC the shortcut to cycle through the options is F5 so if a game looks blurry or just kind of very slightly off you can cycle through then to see if it improves without having to go into the settings.

I don't know if I'm just unlucky with PCSX2 or overly nit picky but using HW rendering and especially upping the resolution seems to cause at least some graphical anomalies in pretty much every game. From a kind of stuttery look in FMV's(not a fps drop) to messed up textures or sometimes small lines or marks around areas of text, etc. Some of the hw hack menu hacks can reduce them but I never seem to be able to eliminate them completely. I've ended up running most game in software mode, its only native res but at least everything looks like its supposed too. Also try changing the interlacing option. Sometime auto gets it wrong and makes a game more blurry than normal. Happens for me in the Ace Combat games.

I guess I'll get used to it. Got no idea why my brain automatically just wants to push up. It's actually weird, on a pad i push down with a stick I push up.

Is it neccessary to sign up to the bitbucket site first? Well I did it without signing up there. Let me know if I need too sign up and submit again or if it is fine as is.

I know you guys are probably getting sick of questons from me so will try to make this the last for a while. On the views with a vertical list is there any way to reverse the listing so that you push up to progress though the list rather than down? I dont know why but that feels more natural to be and I keep doing it by mistake then correcting myself.

Thanks @CriticalCid much appreciated. With regard to the scaling options I did try that in the past and had to settle for running at a low res instead. I use the PC for various things and unfortunately some programs simply ignore windows scaling settings. Problems like this do crop up but I found I was running into far more doing it the other way round. Just tried it and it's great. Thanks again.
-
Its not the scaling exactly. Its that I'm running way under native res because its hooked up to a fairly small TV. I fits fine at 1080p but as far as I know there is no way to run BB at anything other than what the desktop is set too. I can't set the desktop higher as a lot of text ends up too small. I guess I'll just have to live with it as it is for now. I'll probably end up on another theme eventually anyway. My main problem isn't so much it not fitting although I'd rather it did, I basically just want an unobstructed view of the video as I can see the game name in the selection menu thingy. Maybe I should brush up on terminology.

Any way to remove the box and title I put the red splodge next to. Nothing I can find in the options seem to effect it. I already know the title from the menu and as you can see some of the details are cut off in it and it looks a little messy

I like seeing the video's in the side details panels in LB but the audio from them can be a bit annoying/distracting. Is there any way to mute them by default?
-
I prefer a static background (LB not BB) rather than having it change to what game is selected. However I cant find a good pic to have in the background for the arcade section. Something cool but generic enough its not game specific. Also something the games list has reasonable contrast against Is it even possible to have a static background for each section rather than just one for everything?
-
I did think of that but tbh it's so minor I figured there are far more important things for Jason to be doing so I'm not going to.

I may be being blind but couldn't see one. Is there a general thread with links to finished or at least funtional themes? Going through the threads there is no way to tell if its simply an idea for a theme, one being worked on but has no download yet or is a fully functional usable theme. Never mind I just noticed the big themes section of the download tab.

I dont want to risk it screwing something up over such a minor thing. If it was changing one or 2 lines I probably would try it but in mame for example there are a lot of entries. Its not really a big deal as play count doesn't really matter, it was more just part of wanting to to wipe it to clean for use after all the configuring and tweaking is done and its ready for normal use.
-
I dont want to do that as for mame I had to force it to import everything and delete what I dont want. Some of which I just deleted from LB and not delete the file as they were the parent rom of another version. The problem with letting LB decide what to import was it was only importing the 4 player version of some games and in those you cant pick your character when playing SP. I guess I'll just have to have the play count wrong.

Its possible its the Win 10 creator update. Like with the anniversary update when that was released it seems to be causing random problems in various programs, games, drivers, etc. It takes some time for it all to settle into place as updates are released. It also seems far more common to cause random bugs if you install it as an update over your existing OS rather than a clean install. It's the main reason I use the defer updates option to stop windows installing them (only stops the big AU/CU type not standard fixes, etc). I had major problems with the AU with massive screen tearing when scrolling in any web browser aswell as in the steam UI. Tried it again 6 months later and it was fine.

My play count is off in a lot of games from loading/testing/tweaking,etc when first settling up. Is there any way to reset the play count of everything in LB/BB back to 0.

The point is he's building a PC in an old Xbox case. Space is a major issue and an M.2 drive since it sits flush with the motherboard and has no cables at all will save a not inconsiderable amount of space if you also take into account the power and sata cables a normal HDD would need. He's not doing it for performance reasons.
-
I think he's going M.2 so the drive doesn't take up any extra space, plus no cable management, etc rather than the speed. @Zaazu I'd be interested in seeing some pics before and after you close it all up.
