  1. Not applicable to anyone in the thread but I think the term Beta has become massively misunderstood among gamers thanks to publishers essentially calling an early access demo a beta. Now when someone encounters a genuine beta and encounters sometimes serious bugs they get outraged.
  2. I've not tried any themes yet with BB, only recently bought a premium license but still deciding on what games to add. Is there a tutorial on how to use these anywhere.
  3. I guess it boils down to me not going for absolutely huge collections. I went at it the other way. I went to it because I read it had automatic disc swapping and the compression was a bonus.
  4. Yeah I went for them after reading they handle disc swapping automatically. I've not played far enough into any game yet to test. If it turns out its the same usage as M3U I may rethink it in the future. I dont have Riven as the PS1 version doesn't seem like the ideal version and since everything is running on a PC anyway I figured I'd just get the PC version of those. @SentaiBrad My testing is far from thorough, more just me not knowing any better one way or the other and its the core I ended up playing with after watching one of simplyaustins tutorials. But from the maybe 10 games I messed with unless I messed with settings I couldn't tell the difference.
  5. Oh well, it was worth looking at. I dont think there is going to be an easy solution tbh as both the PBP file format and PS1 emulation in general have been a thing for long enough now that if there was an easy solution we would find information on it already. I also think its not a big enough problem for anyone to put significant time into. I only started converting them at all because it is the easiest way to disc swap, assuming that works for the titles I need it too. Then figured That I've got the app, I may aswell do what others I can. While I admit I only have a few hundred PS1 games total, the size isn't a huge issue. Knocking off a few GB's total would help much. CSO'ing PS2 files on the other hand, much more useful.
  6. Thanks for the info. I have managed to convert the multi bin games now but at least in the one I tested (street fighter alpha) the music played but the timing was out when converted to pbp. It'd start/stop at the wrong time. Using the single bin/cue it was created from had no such issue. Ideally for multi disc games I'd like to use pbp where I can as the aim is to minimise the need to use the keyboard at all. Do you happen to know any specific games that have issues with pbp disc swapping? I'm generally not going for complete sets in any of the systems so I dont have all that many multi disc games overall, mostly the RPG's and the odd bad game I'm curious about like X-files and the Wing Commanders games. With regards to the software vs HW core thing. I have tried both and on the admitedly few games I've messed with not noticed any real difference other than HW having more options. Performance was the same and I didn't have any glitches in HW other than when manually messing with some of the settings such as PGXP in some games.
  7. Do you mean the one that was gnerated alongside the bin? I deleted it but it wont take me long to do it again. I'll edit this post and attach it in a few mins. SLUS_00197.CUE
  8. Tbh so long as I can convert my multi disc games I'm happy for now. That was the real reason I got the converter in the first place, then decided to do the rest because why not? It would be nice having everything the same file format but its no huge issue importing both pbp and cue files. I appreciate the help though guys.
  9. Well I had a play with the settings in imgburn, it seemed very insistent on creating .img files despite what I picked. Got it to create a bin, converted that and while closer its still not spot on. The music is there but the timing is out. It kicks in early or late or sometimes cuts out abrubtly. Much closer than before though. For now though I think I'll be sticking to just leaving the games with the music tracks seperated out as they are.
  10. cool, I'll have a play with settings and see if I can get it working, must have screwed something up last time. Although its not really the end of the world keeping a few uncompressed tbh. It sounds like I have a lot less than you do.
  11. This is what the intro is meant to sound like
  12. The game with the music missing is Street Fighter Alpha. I've tried creating a new image with daemon tools and when I play that using the cue file the music plays but when I convert to pbp its missing. I also downloaded one already converted to PBP and that had no music either.
  13. You can stlll convert a significant amount. The games that are just a cue and 1 bin file seem to convert and work fine. Its the games that have multiple bin files that are the issue. Luckily most of the multidisc games, at least the popular ones(FF's,Dragon warrior, Chrono Cross, etc) seem to be single bin. Also while not an absolute rule it seems to be earlier PS1 games that have multiple tracks. If I come across any better ways of doing it I'll let you know.
  14. Thats my problem I've not found a way to successfully convert it and keep the music intact. Thats why I said that I've just ended up keeping mult track games as the cue/bin's for now and compressing the single track games. It takes more space but I'd rather it work properly and be bigger. The potential issue other than size being that is any muli-disc games are mulri track they cant be converted and its much more convenient having those as pbp for disc switching. It is possible I somehow did it wrong. If you have SFA could you try it and see?
  15. I tried it and it seems to have the same problem as when I did it myself through isobuster. It puts all the files into a single bin which will then convert. However when I load it up in an emulator the music doesn't play. The game I've been trying do do it with is Street Fighter Alpha. There is meant to be music in the intro. It is then when I load it from the original cue file will all the its bin files. But when I do any type of conversion to a single bin the music is missing.
  16. I've seen ways suggesting using daemon tools but the free version of that is an adware infested piece of crap which doesn't inspire me with confidene in handing my details to them. I think I'm just going to have to live with not compressing games with more than one bin file. The sizes aren't huge anyway so thats not a massive problem. The main issue is converting multidisc games makes disc swapping a non issue.
  17. What is wrong with the HW core? Also how do you join a game with lots of bin files into one and still have it work. I tried converting it to an iso with iso buster and the game played but had no music. Nothing else would seem to read the cue file properly to convert them to anything. I ended up just converting the ones with 1 bin file and leaving the rest as bin/cue.
  18. I haven't tried a controller with standalone mame yet as I'm just at the stage of making sure files work. But it'd have to be pretty insurmountable a problem for me to go back to the RA mame cores since it just doesn't run some games right, at least not for me. I also haven't tried it since the 1.6 update. Also I'm on windows which should make troubleshooting somewhat easier if I need to find help.
  19. Thanks, not what I wanted to hear but good to know. So far everything I've tried which admittedly is not many yet has worked on 0.185. Push comes to shove I'll download 0.184 to match the roms. I usually like keeping things up to date but this seems very much like an if it aint broke dont fix it situation. I checked my Arcade games and they come in just short of 6GB and may even shrink from there once I start playing. It doesn't seem worth the extra 500GB+ for the full set with CHD's or 50GB or so without it would take to easily update.
  20. It really depends how many games you have. It doesn't knock a massive amount off most games(although some its a huge amount). However given most of us will most likely have a fairly large collection all the little bits add up. For me it saved in the region of 200GB. There are also some games that dont work as well compressed, the GTA games for example.
  21. Is there an easy way to update roms if you dont have a full romset? I only have the roms I am interested in playing as the full set takes up way too much space and mostly with things I have no interest in. I basically have 200 or so roms from the non merged 184 set with the corresponding CHD's where neccessary. I want to update mame to 0.186 but from what I've seen would run into problems with the Qsound file among possibly other things.
  22. I've only just started messing with emulation in general so take anything I say with a pinch of salt as it could easily be user error. I spent a while messing about with mame on retroarch while I cant remember which some roms crashed RA when trying to load on some mame cores and not other, whereas all the same roms worked in standalone mame 0.185. With what I am assuming is the most recent core (the one with no number) some games also seem to have audio problems that they dont have in other cores or standalone. One I remember specifically is X-men arcade. There is some crackling in the intro and the music sounds almost midi like is the nearest I can think of but its not quite that. The problem I found with the older cores in RA is that they didn't remember things. For example loading a CPS3 game it would say new CD inserted every time you run the game. I finally decided the best option was to hi-score/no-nag patch regular mame.
  23. Thanks again, I'll have a play around I think before commiting to importing things for realsies.
  24. Thanks. I presumed as much with the disc swapping. It was how the second disc would be displayed in BB I had no idea about. I didn't like the idea of having muliple entries for the same game. One more thing actually, is there an easy quick way in BB to switch which is the dominant disc and which an additional app? So for example once on disc 2 to be able to have the main entry as disc 2 and disc one be it's additional app.
  25. I know in Launchbox you can add the second disc as an additional app to to the first disc. How is that handled in Bigbox? Also what is currently the best way to disc swap? Just manually go into the emulator and do it with keyboard and mouse then next time you use BB load from disc 2?
