That one is called Syncronized Refresh. It must differ in some way to Vsync as there is a Wait for vertical sync option right underneath it. Maybe two methods of achieving the same result? I use the wait for vertical sync option and it seems to work fine.

I've just bought it and yeah it seems it doesn't natively support WHDload as I thought. However it can create RP7 files containing multiple disks then you just load that file and it handles all the disc changes itself. So convenience wise more or less the same thing.

I think I am going to end up getting Amiga Forever as I used to love my Amiga 600. Its a shame USB Amiga style joysticks dont seem to be very widely available. I don't think I'm going to bother with the C64 one though I dont think I'd end up using it. Now if they had a ZX Spectrum version I'd be all over it. Although for the authentic Amiga experience I'm going to have to find a mouse that keeps jamming up and only registers every other click.

I'm still umming and arring over Amiga Forever. I don't know why it would be running faster than it is supposed too, I've not tried 7 but the 2016 version I had a mess with didn't do that. Do you have a high refresh rate monitor or anything that could be forcing it higher? Is it just the framerate of the entire emulation that is sped up? I've not really given any thought to the C64 version. I don't have any nostalgia for that at all I was a speccy kid. Anything on the C64 worth it without the nostalgia factor?

BB has an option to close the open emulator with a 2 button combination, Its called controller automation in the settings. With your hardware is it possible to make it so your close button is linked to two keys? If not insteasd of a button to close you could just pick a button combination that is never used during gameplay such as P1 and P2 start simultaneously.

Probably not ideal but would a flight stick that rotates for rudder controls work or is it completely the wrong kind of stick and rotation? Just looked up the Heavy Barrel cab, totally different.

Its a legit program, they even licensed the kickstart roms( basically the amiga FW) so its all legal. I've used the 2016 version at a friends and just as an amiga emulator it seemed to work well. But the ability to just run a disk or whload file direct from windows and have it open, self configure and run the game is new to V7 which is fairly new. I'm in the same boat as you if it works well I'll buy it, especially since it sounds like it would make using it with LB easier. Thats why I created this thread to see if anyone had tried it. I know there are a few Amiga fans here. Another cool option for any Amiga fan with an old PC/Laptop gathering dust is you can now also set it to start and load directly into the emulated Amiga when windows starts.
-
Has anyone tried this with launchbox? One of the new features in 7 is being able to just run an Amiga disk or HDD image in windows and have it load and run with the correct config. Unless I'm missing something this would make adding WHload formatted games to LB as simple as any other systems rom files, assuming it works as advertised.

I agree. Like I said its amiguous, but technically speaking it is a form of DRM, albeit a very light one. It can be used to take away your rights to use the software. Not saying Jason would ever do that unjustly but it can be done. I would like to add I have nothing against it being present, just nitpicking really thats its not literally zero DRM. Tbh he has no choice in the matter as it stands as its literally the bare minimum he could do to be able to sell a license with an expiry date.
-
Fair enough. Personally its a non issue for me, noone is going to see it who doesn't know my name anyway and I'm not that precious over people knowing it anyway. Well not anyone who I know well enough to also use my PC. I do think the zero DRM thing is a bit amiguous though. It has a license that can be deactivated that is technically DRM.

Is there any purpose to having it right there in the options menu though. Why not put it in deeper in the settings with an option to lock access. It can still be in the license and viewable in LB/BB, just not to every Tom, Dick and Harry who you let use you PC/Cab.
-
The tab thing brings up an options menu in newer versions of mame. The one you have is pretty old so you might want to look into updating it. However I realise thats annoying with mame as it also means downloading the updated romset too. Hopefully someone else will be along to help with configuring the command line version. Unfortunately I've only ever used very recent builds.

I've ran into a problem with the .188 version of mame. For some reason it wont remember any video settings at all. I turn vsync on and once I close and reopen mame they are back off again. I've tried it with a no nag exe I compiled myself aswell as both 32 and 64 bit versions direct from the site. I have have checked that no files in the folder are set to read only. I also downloaded .187 and that saves the settings fine, however I only have the .188 roms and cant find .187 roms now.
-
I'm not sure we can say on here and tbh I'd remove those links justin case.

I think those roms are just massively out of date. The same games in their seperate MAME roms section are newer but still a few versions out of date now. Unlike with other emulators MAME emulator and ROM versions have to match. The more out of date one is from the other the more problems arise.
-
Are you sure you have the right version roms for your version of mame? Also what type of romset do you have? With merged and split you need the parent rom for other version of the same game to work, often thats the japanese one.
-
Open MAME. Go into configure options, then configure directories, then select roms. Go to the folder with the roms in and press tab to select it. Then select previous menu until you get to the general settings and select save configuration. You can tell if its done right by selecting the "available" option in the left side menu, if they show up in there then its seeing the roms. If not make sure you selected the right folder. Alternatively you can put your roms into a folder called roms inside the mame folder which is where it looks for them by default.
-
Have you tried the games in mame without LB? It sounds like you haven't set the roms folder in mame to the one where they are stored.
-
No idea how they interact with other controllers but you dont have to use them wirelessly.
-
Looks like I'll give this a miss then. Not really worth what it would cost for a wiimote and Dolphin bar, may aswell pay some extra and get the aimtrek gun at that point. Good for those who already have a spare wiimote I guess. It's a shame that after all these years with LCD displays we still haven't got anything as good as the old light guns were on CRT's.
-
Do you know if much has changed to bother? I have only just got done getting the 187 roms and unless there is some compelling reason I think I'm sticking with 187 for a while.
-
I followed the guide here to compile it myself http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=348.0 It is a little out of date however, so you need to make a few adjustments to it. Download the source for 187 from the mame site as the link in the guide links to 186. Also download the 187 version of the no nag patch file, the link in the guide links to them all. I'd just attach the exe here for you to download but I don't know if that is allowed.

Can I play my old windows games without discs?
spectral replied to SilentDan297's topic in Emulation
Man, game copy world. That brings back memories. Had no idea it was still around. -
Launchbox and Big Box are just front ends for accessing emulators on windows based PC's. They don't run anything themselves. Once you select the game LB/BB hands over to whatever emulator you have set up to play that game. So barring a few arcade machines you'd be looking at setting it up using MAME. Now I could be wrong but I dont think there is any particular support for a coin mechanism exactly in MAME. In MAME you set insert coin to a button press. There are coin mechanism's designed for MAME cabinets that mimick a button press when a coin is inserted but I dont know how easy it would be or even if it is possible to do it with a real original one.
