You are a man on fire ?
-
I have to work on my search keyword skills I usually go 2 pages deep to look at the titles of threads too. Looks like another version came out in the last day or two. I would love to adjust the height of the menu selector bards too. I liked the closer spacing of the game platform names to have more on the screen. Have you seen anyone ask about that? And can I have a generic platform graphic that will display when I have no game selected or when there is no art for a particular game when I highlight it?

Is there a way to get rid of the black background behind the boxart like regular LB has? IOW, transparent backgrounds? Can I at least change the color to be something other than black? How about a transparency setting to let the platform/game background show through this border that goes all around the boxart and title text?
-
I am not sure where LB/LB.Next is getting the images from (no manual to go by), but I have "use blownup box art" selected for backgrounds. In LB, when I select games, most show up with just a logo in the center of the screen behind the game box. Some games show a full screen image (but it isn't the box art). In LB.Next, only the games that have this full screen image display, clicking on the other games shows nothing.

Of course there's a way, it just isn't designed that way now These are just .XAML files. You don't necessarily have to be a coder to edit them. Check out this video on how to use a free version of visual studio if you want to try it yourself:

Does a rom import overwrite or skip existing media?
FlightRisk replied to FlightRisk's topic in Features
I answered part of my question. It looks like you have to uncheck boxes on import where it asks if you would like to download "images". But I still have 2 questions. 1. How is music downloaded? Did I miss that on one of the screens? 2. Right after it asks you to hit next or uncheck "images" it asks the same thing for "media". What's the difference? I have an emumovies account. Is the "images" from LB and the "media" from emu? Why would I want all of both checked? -
If I copy over a set of roms, and then go into ..launchbox/images, videos, music and manuals and dump files there, then run the rom import wizard to create that new platform, does it overwrite what I put there or just get what it doesn't see there already? I want to save a lot of time by not downloading what I already have, but have it find any media in other folders I may have missed and get any media that I might have missed in each folder.

I didn't see Battlezone in the list.

What what about all the unneeded files? Any idea what I am doing wrong?
-
I was able to get a bit further. First, where do I get the samples? They don't seem to be in the same place (PD) that the Mame .197 roms come from. I had ones that I manually downloaded from twisty's a long time ago, but I assumed if clrmamepro wants to verify them, that there must be a .197 set of them somewhere. Next, I unchecked the option in the scanner for "bios files in separate folder" because it couldn't find the bios files and I am using a non-merged set, which I thought had the bios in each rom zip that needed them. So now I run the scan and it gets only 38/39050 roms. Every rom has unneeded files. And there are confusing platform looking names like "Apple //c" and "commodore 128".. So "Arkanoid MC68705P5 Interface [folder: arkanoid68705p3\bootstrap.bin" is unneeded. And: X Galaga (Namco rev.b) [folder: galaza - size 37kb) unneeded file: galaga\51xx.bin unneeded file: galaga\54xx.bin And so on about 39,000 times.
-
I must be just missing it, but where can I find a datfile to use in clrmamepro for the .197 recent MAME download? I looked on dat-o-matic and they are all for separate consoles, there is no "Mame" or "Arcade".

I also notice that LB seems to count your number of games by how many menu items there are. So if you have multiple games under 1 image, it only counts that game as one in the "diplaying xx of xxxxx total games". So if you don't expand the games, the count won't represent how many roms you have, just how many you display in one launch image.
-
LOL. Thanks Neil, that was easy enough. And if it expands out 2 more versions for a total of 3 and I decide to put them back under one again, it looks like I just cntrl-click each one to have them all highlighted and select "combine selected games" (cntrl-shift-c). I am still amazed at how much was thought through and implemented in LB. I tried several front ends and thought I really liked one until I tried LB/BB. It is just phenomenal. And so is the support and user forums.

How do you reverse the process? Take multiple apps and expand them out to a box for each one with the title showing you USA version, Japan version, etc.? I know there was an option somewhere, maybe where you import the roms, that asks if you want one game image for multiple roms. Also, I made a feature suggestion, but it would be really nice to have a visual indicator for games that have multiple versions. For example and overlay in the graphical space that hold the box image, say a circle with a number in it like "3" for three versions of this game. Then you would know you could right click it to run one of the other versions

Yep, I get it. and either way works. I tend to like it dropping. The only comment I have, and it isn't a complaint, is that 2 screens seems repetitive. The platform screen when you are stopped on a game in the wheel and the game screen when you click on the wheel item are identical other than the menu on the right and a 1 line info bar at the bottom instead of a 2 line scrolling one (and the broken logo). Seems like either the game info screen should be different, or if not, be more efficient to just change the wheel menu for the game menu (play, launch with, etc.) I suppose the fades could be turned off and do just that. Maybe the fade is important to see a transition between the screens.

Does RA have a config that tells it what to use by default? I have always set it up in the past manually. In RLUI, I see RA as the default emulator, but I see nothing in "Atari 2600, Emulators, Default Emulator, Edit Global Module Settings". On the Atari 2600 tab of that screen, libretro core is blank. That is where I would set it, no? I think on my Pi, I set RA (or maybe Emulation Station does it), I hit a button to go to a setup screen and tell it to use a different emulator. On the Pi I have everything in Arcade running MAME, except for some games which I tell RA to use a different core, or run a different emulator entirely (like I set all the vector games to use AdvanceMame)

@CriticalCidWhat do you mean with always above the background layer? I literally changed absolutely nothing on that regard. Meaning that now, the screen is fully unfaded when the box starts to drop. So it comes from out of frame at the top, goes over the BigBox logo and settles where it does. The mask was during the fade in, so the box came in from the top, disappeared because the fade was still dark, then made its final bounce when the screen was fully drawn.
-
How does RetroArch know which emulator to use? Maybe that was in a config file I got from colpipes, but there is no core set in LB that I can see, it just automatically uses Stella. How can I try different cores? Not sure I can do an F1 and change cores when the game is running. It lets me, but not sure it "takes" when i say "restart" the game. In any case, it was the same result. Most games don't run and there is a large lag and jumping seems slow.
-
I am trying to run Atari 2600 and 5200 using colpipes no intro setup (for the most part). Not having luck in either. Could be the games I am trying, but I load "Airlock" on the 2600 and there are 2 issues. I can't jump and get the left thing hanging down like I can on the right, and secondly, the timer doesn't work correctly. It starts at 49 seconds but time out after only 20 seconds run off the clock. This uses RA and Stella. Next I tried Choplifter on the Atari 5200 and it lives up to its name, choppy graphics. The logo screen comes up fine, but then the game screen "jumps" like an old TV with the vertical hold not adjusted. You can play the game as the main screen is static, but copies of that screen pop in and out vertically misalinged.
-
@CriticalCid, I think it is perfect now. I can see the 2 sections you adjusted so could play with it myself and report back to you, but now it comes out of the fade and only then the box drops in. So it actually looks kinda cool on a non 16:9 monitor if you can catch it. I looks like it drops in from outside the monitor It actually enhances the 3D effect. But now it is "above" the background layer for the whole time. Not that it is very noticeable, but the fade out on the the screens are more abrupt than the fade-ins. Maybe it is even by design. So I am on a platform screen and select it. The transition to black is almost instant. Then it fades in to the game screen. Select that game and it snaps to black and fades in on the details screen. Back out and the fade outs and fade ins are smooth. What are these themes? They look like a type of XAML app in Visual Studio C#? I will have to look at the API and learn something new. Where are the docs?

Well, this isn't a solution, but does confirm the issue. My monitor's native resolution aspect ratio is 1.65:1, so I see letterboxing in BigBox. I don't know how to fix that. I temporarily set my monitor 2 resolutions down (1600x900) which is th 1.77:1 aspect ratio of 1080p. So now EVERYTHING is letterboxed on my monitor, but applications run in that window as if it was my full monitor. When I run BigBox, it doesn't do it anymore. No artifact at the top because my monitor cuts it off. So the resolution of the fade and background is different from the area used by the routine that drops the boxes in from the top. There must be a setting where the box animation is set to use the 1680x1050 of my monitor, but Bigbox is using 1920x1080. Not sure if I have that in the right order, but it definitely is a mismatch in screen resolution to image resolution.
-
I need this too. Not all monitors are 1080p. And in my setup, the monitor is 1050, so I can't change it to 1080, I can only downscale it. What were you saying about a batch file? There is a command line parameter to change BigBox's output resolution?

Very top of the screen at the right side above the L in game boy color. I just tried it in 3 different media players. But you are right, Let me switch from Windows Media Player to VLC for the video player in bigbox. But that hardly works at all on my machine, the videos start out garbled and then fix themselves after a second or two.
