  1. It is interesting to see this different interests in this hobby like those who love collecting and will never touch half the games and those who want a curated list of games have just arcade or just the platforms they grew up with. I owned a video game arcade in the 80s, so primarily play those and imagine I am back there with the music blasting and black lights over the pinball game section. I spent a lot of time starting with huge and whittling things down, but I think I am going to start over from scratch again. So much has changed in just 2 or 3 years since I was gaming regularly and then just stepped back during Covid. Most people probably did just the opposite!
  2. Yes, that looks great. Have you shared your build somewhere as a project for people to get ideas from? So many questions like why did you decide to mount your amp above the cabinet? And are those Sinden lightguns?
  3. Would it be easy to add things that exist now like the popout game data feature, or has engine/method of creating themes changed and you would have to start from scratch?
  4. Boy do I miss Pleasuredome. And silly as it was, I liked trying to reach the next level. I forget what little icon I had, but leaving my machine up for a few years seeding 24/7, it had gotten kinda hi. It was like trying for high score on a game
  5. I'm wondering about the weight of different types of wood. I owned an Arcade in the 80s and had 5 pins and about 30 games. They weighed a ton! I kept a Tempest that I still have and don't want to re-use the case. So even if real wood costs a lot more, I am thinking about using it just because of weight. Maybe having a modular system is a good idea though. If you could take 2 or 3 sections apart, remove the computer and the monitor, it would be more manageable to move.
  6. What I am seeing is that BigBox automatically shows the feature, since it is just a list of game options on the right (on my theme), but it doesn't give any option in Launchbox to see this same information, it has to be part of the theme. On the video for 12.1 there is a sidebar in a new LB theme with new options: But I noticed in my LB, that the default theme shows "related games" on this sidebar, but the "default plus" does not. Does that mean the theme doesn't support it or it is just turned off? I made my theme from the old default theme, but looks like I may have to switch themes and adjust colors. And back to BB, that seems to operate differently. My game details sidebar (and the one in the 12.1 video), shows that list of everything automatically in all the themes I tried. It isn't fancy like it is in LB. So all themes default to showing that list, but LB themes do not? In Unified, this list is on the right, here it is on the left from the video in whatever theme he is using: I guess I was expecting it to be like one of the competing game front-ends that originated this feature, where the entire screen is filled with 3 or 4 frames of information and one of them was a list of the names and platforms of related games you had installed (like pac-man on all the different platforms). You may remember I was one of the main nags for this feature over the years having used that other system and other poll features kept beating it out until now. Persistence pays i
  7. Ok, I'll experiment. I guess I was expecting a themed box rather than a list on the right. I looked in Launchbox though and it doesn't display. I'll post over there.
  8. Since Jason modified this from Unified, any chance this will be updated to support the "similar games" feature?
  9. I am just assuming here that features aren't a "skin" in LB, but a completely programmed interface such that if something like similar games/recommended games are added, that won't appear in the GUI in an old theme? Can you modify an old theme easily to include this? If not, we are dependent on the theme makers to update their themes, right?
  10. I want to look at the video where they went over creating themes to see what is involved with older themes that don't support the new features. I wonder at what point, you just have to get a theme built to support a latest release
  11. LOL, Yes, I use Discord for a group I lead with a product for model railroading. It works for all the people on the development team to share ideas and talk in real time, but it is just endless threads unlike topics grouped here. Thanks for the input!
  12. I was just curious which has more traffic. I lurk on both, but tend to like forums more, mostly because topics are easier to find. If I want to chat live, then Discord is the way to go
  13. I jump in and see where this is about once a year. I just missed the poll I also can't find my suggestion in bitbucket, though I know I added it as a suggested feature. Should I enter it again? Or is this included in the current list "suggest similar games"? This isn't exactly the same since I don't want a similar game, I want the same game on different platforms. FEATURE: When on a game, say "Space Invaders", there is a section of the screen with images of all the other versions on all the other platforms I have installed that also have a version of Space Invaders. So if I am on the Arcade version, It will show Atarii 2600, Atari 5200, NES, etc. with an image of what the screen looks like on that platform. GameEx has had this feature for many years:
  14. With all the major changes to LB/BB has anything been added to this theme in the last 3 years? Not that it needs it, I'm just wondering if it added any options for the new features.
  15. Thanks. After 2 days, looks like I figured it out. The first issue was Windows Defender quarantined the file. I had thought I had virus checking off. I made sure to exclude that folder. I then downloaded the wrong version apparently of the steam_api.dll. I put version 7.5 (according to the properties) and that found it. It looks like my regular steam installs in program files and this is a separate steam that I have under "arcade/steam". Then there is "arcade/emulators/PinballFX 2" folder where the PinballFX2.exe and dll's need to be. Thanks!
  16. Old thread and I am actually trying to make this work with Rocket Launcher through LB, but I get an error that says a steam client must be running. I have no knowledge of steam and only have it because of some other games I bought and play them through steam. I have a separate emulator folder and steam is there too. It was missing the steam_api.dll file. I didn't know what version to use, so I picked a 1.x version and tried to install that in System32. That didn't work, so I stuck it in the emulator/PinballFX2 folder with the .ini file and that error went away, but then I get a full screen that says a steam client must be running. Can I have the latest steam on this machine at the same time as I have this CP78 version? What am I missing?
  17. Did the "show all the other installed versions from different platforms of the same game" make the cut this year? The one like one of the other front ends has where if you go to the details of the game, like space invaders in the arcade section, and it show the apple version, the atari version, etc. ect, and if you click on it, the video runs in a small window and you can run one of the other versions from there.
  18. Yes, completely unreasonable and also shows a lack of understanding of how computers and software works and what a runtime or a library or the .NET Framework is. Plus, the way you ask or discuss things, "attitude", is important. That said, I wish the world had adopted a true compiled language like those in RAD Studio (Delphi, C++) which is faster and compiles everything into an EXE instead of having a GAC and a .NET Framework, and interop files and all the other stuff that just complicates things that they were trying to make easier. But even then, sooner or later, you are going to need a tool that is a DLL or requires some kind of licensing. So like Beta vs. VHS or Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD (remember that?), you go with the system that has the most support. The best horse isn't always the winner, but he/she crossed the finish line first.
  19. Installing .NET Core 3.1.6 hangs halfway through. I haven't updated in quite a while, maybe 11.0. And just tried the automatic update. I get through I think it was 2 dialog boxes and it said I needed the latest .net 64 runtime. I put the mouse cursor on the end of the thermometer bar so I could see if it was moving, and it hasn't for the last 30 minutes. Disk activity and CPU is hard to see what is doing what, but there seems to be no disk activity and minimal CPU usage. Has anyone else seen this? UPDATE: I tried it several times and then tried by just running the installer for this version out of the updates folder and it worked
  20. Are you talking about getting rid of your background image? Tools -> Options -> Imaged -> background?
  21. There is also badge code in a new button section in MainView.xaml. Also the encoding changed. All my old themes are UTF-8. The new themes are UTF-8 BOM.
  22. What is involved in taking an LB theme and enabling the badges? Is it all in the XML files in the "views" folder or are the DLLs changed? I can see buttons added to the BoxesContentView and MainView so far. If it's just a matter of doing a compare in Git or Notepad++ if there aren't a ton of them and merging the changes, I'll do that so I don't mess up all the custom changes I made to my theme.
