Show Us Your LaunchBox! Celebrating 13 Years Together

LaunchBox is turning 13, and we want to celebrate by seeing how our community has made LaunchBox their own!

Over the years, we’ve seen people use LaunchBox in all sorts of different ways, from huge projects to small personal touches that make managing and playing their collection just that little bit better. For our birthday, we want to see what your LaunchBox looks like.

Your submission could be something like:

• 🕹️ An entire arcade cabinet or gaming setup you’ve built around LaunchBox or Big Box
• 🎨 A custom theme you’ve created or customized to get your setup looking exactly how you want it
• ⚙️ A particular way you’ve configured LaunchBox or Big Box, whether that’s your layout, views, controls, startup experience, or something else
• 📚 A collection or playlist you’ve put together that you’re particularly proud of
• 🗂️ A clever way you’ve organized or categorized your games, platforms, genres, series, or anything else in your library
• 🏎️ A setup built around a particular type of gaming, such as a light gun, racing, couch gaming, handheld, or retro setup
• 🖼️ Your own combination of artwork, videos, metadata, themes, and other customization that gives your library its own look and feel
• ❤️ Or simply something about your LaunchBox setup that you love and want to show off

These are just examples. Nothing is too big or too small. You don’t need to have built an elaborate arcade cabinet or spent months creating a theme to take part. If you’ve done something with LaunchBox that you’re proud of, we’d like to see it.

Alright, I’ll get us started! 🎮

For mine, I wanted to showcase something that has gradually become one of my favorite ways to use LaunchBox: as the central hub for my increasingly unnecessary collection of handhelds.

Between Windows and Android, LaunchBox has basically become the ecosystem that ties all of these devices together. Rather than trying to cram my entire library onto every handheld, each one has its own subset of platforms and games tailored to what I actually enjoy playing on that particular device.

The Export to Android feature gets a lot of use here too. I can manage everything from my main LaunchBox library on Windows, then easily move the platforms and games I want over to my Android handhelds. It makes setting up a new device, or changing what I keep on one, much easier. I also heavily use Game Statistics Sync across them. Even though I might jump between completely different devices, LaunchBox keeps my play history and favorites together, which makes the whole collection feel much more like one connected library rather than a bunch of separate handhelds.

Oh, and yes… that might be a testing build of Dual Screen LaunchBox for Android up there 😉

Launchbox was the first program I used when I learned emulation. Because of this I have created a whole arcade in my house. It was only supposed to be one arcade cabinet I built. But it has turned into this and made my house the spot to hangout. Launchbox is awesome I recommend it to everyone.

The progress feature in Launchbox got me more interested in RetroAchievements, and as a result I went a little nutty using the RA website as a template to come up with various playlists, so that I can organize games by theme, setting, exclusives, and greatest hits and whatnot. Still a work in progress, but I like what I've got going so far ◉‿◉ (I don't have a lot of achievement points yet, but I'll get there...)

More recently, I started organizing by 'favorite' and 'least favorite' things in games like favorite box art, music, and titles.

Because some games have really funny titles!

13 years...wow, time flies. Been using LB since the original dev live streams (with beardless Jason). 

When you don't have room for a bunch of different cabinets and don't want a kitchen sink control panel, you go modular. One panel for VR pinball ( accelerometer inside for nudging), which also houses an Ikari Warriors stick, and a standard stick with a 4 way switchable gate, which automatically switches based on whether the game is 4 or 8 way. Thanks to the CTC, I was able to cobble an arcade view that utilizes the beautiful cabinet artwork featured in the CoinOps frontend.

Then we have a trackball and spinner setup. Golden Tee currently gets the most play. Lastly, a racing setup. 

Launchbox has made it simple to setup and have the dedicated playlists for the controls. Thank you launchbox team.

Honestly dont have much to show but i still enjoy my theme just for looking fanart, wish there was more of it about without logos just clear images are more fun to swipe through with it. Though my favourite thing i like is the cubes i did, have a random video come up out of the bunch so i wont know im expecting, simplicity is key for me with usage, a lot can go on in themes and styles but its going straight to the action that is favorable for me.

Very nice! But why is the marquee monitor below the screen rather than above, where it usually goes?

Thanks, Retrofrogg. The marquee is actually attached to a pedestal build and the 55" game monitor is freestanding behind it. Both are on rollers so I can move them around the room when needed. Having the game monitor freestanding also allows me easily upgrade to a better or larger one (65"?) in the future since it's not contained within a cabinet. Strangely, friends and family really seem to love that the game marquee is right there in front of them as they play their retro favorites. 🙂
