  1. Well... as promised... another update on the build. I worked on it all weekend and also had Monday as a holiday from work but didn't get very far as it was really slow and frustrating progress. I couldn't get the control panel to lift up without hitting the monitor bezel. I tried various hinges and mounting brackets so I wasted a LOT of time building and rebuilding things. I've made the control panel four bloody times so far!!! Anyhoo... getting somewhere now.... I decided to put a radius on the front of it as I think it looks nicer and it also gives you something to lift it with (the sticky-out bit). I've put a pull-out drawer in for the keyboard and mouse and made a cover for it from 6mm MDF so that it looks tidy and the wires from the buttons etc won't snag on it or inadvertently press keys etc....
  2. I'm now third? on Toki and I'm somewhere around 6th on Frogger. Some of the top scores are amazing. Agreed that this is the an amazing USP for LB and, when word gets out, should be a massive draw for new players looking for a brilliant front end.
  3. Next was a shelf and a bezel for the monitor. The monitor had a fixed stand with it and I actually had to jigsaw the front part of the plastic stand away to get the monitor to sit close enough to the bezel. The bezel is made out of 6mm MDF board that I got from B&Q this weekend. It's cheap but sturdy enough for the job and should look good when its painted.
  4. Next was making a shelf for the stereo speakers to sit on. I'm going to have a small sub woofer in the base of the machine as well. I've wrapped the shelf with some audio felt stuff that they use in cars. It should stop the speakers from rattling. I've put brass hooks either side of them and an elastic band to hold them in place (I told you this wasn't a Rolls Royce!!!).
  5. I'm going to be using an "extended LCD" as a dynamic marquee at the top. So I cut a bezel for it out of some 3mm board I found in the shed. I needed something to hold it in place so just shaped a couple of bits of gash wood I had and mounted them to the top strut so they would rotate and hold the LCD in place.
  6. Hi all, I'm currently in the process of building my own cabinet. I built one a few years ago but there's a lot I would change about it so I decided to take the plunge and have another go. I'm hoping it's going to have a modular control panel to enable me to swap out controls to play different games (steering wheel / joysticks etc). I'll say up front that I'm not a woodworker! I do have quite a few tools as I'm a keen DIY'er but I've never been taught anything to do with woodwork (or DIY in general) so this isn't going to look anything like as good as some of the home-built cabinets you see knocking about. I thought I would put up a few photos of the progress in here in the off-chance people find it interesting and it might help someone else who's planning on having a go at it to start their own project... It's built out of 18mm MDF for the sides and visible parts and 18mm Plywood for the base / top and non-visible parts.
  7. Yep. Had the same on Galaxians too. I'll just delete all my high scores and start again. It's no bother ?
  8. @Jason Carr I've just sorted it now. I disconnected from the launchbox database and reconnected and synced games. Then played Frogger but still had the same problem. But it occurred to me that although I got a high score on the global rankings it wasn't a high score on my own Frogger high score table. So... Deleted my Frogger high score file and played again. Got a high score on my own table which then uploaded correctly to the global high score table. I'm guessing the code is looking for a change to the hiscore file in order to decide whether to upload or not? Anyhoo.. sorted now - thanks for everything as always ?
  9. Thanks angerman... at least it's not just me ?
  10. Frogger has stopped recording my high scores now :-(.
  11. It's just Johnny T. Should be in there? Going up the "pub" (read: shed) in about 10 minute's... Will check..... ?
  12. That's brilliant! Thanks for the info (and the link to the video). I'll check it out and get it set up on my cabinet. Much appreciated ? ** Edit - I've done that now - really easy to set up - looking forward to getting a few achievements under my belt - Thanks ? **
  13. RetroAchievements?? First I've heard of this.... could you explain what it is (and - hopefully - how to get it)? Is it a feature I can just turn on or is it a third-party plugin for LB? Thanks ?
  14. Yep, that would be a good idea. To have a "Featured Game" on the site that is also highlighted in the software (assuming you've switched on that feature). Then, any high scores created, are reflected on a page on the site for people to comment on / mock / congratulate / swear at / etc.... Not sure how things get put into the Launchbox Poll but this would be a good suggestion to go into that and then it could be put to the community (and Jason) to see if it's feasible and, if it's something other people want. ?
  15. Well stay away from my Frogger high score!! (And my Toki high score too whilst we're on the subject) ?
  16. Just wanted to thank Jason and the team for the new MAME high score feature!! I installed it over the weekend and it's awesome!!! It was great seeing @neil9000 in the high score tables and a few other familiar names. On Saturday night I was 6th on the Frogger table but I'm sure that will change over the next few days/weeks/months. It's really added an extra dimension to the games and probably my most anticipated feature. Great to say it's working brilliantly. I love the fact that your name is tied to your account so that you don't just get one person filling the whole high score with impossible to beat scores. Great work folks and look forward to attempting to beat everyone's score in the future! ?
  17. No I just use the default theme. It works well enough for what I need. If you find anything though please post back ?
  18. The Exit on Escape option works for me but I need to run AutoHotKey to press Esc twice to fully exit MFME. Hope that helps ?
  19. Nice one!! Great work Sherlock!! ?
  20. The only time I had issues with the crosshairs was when the IR receiver didn't see the guns correctly? Have you got clear sight of the guns/IR bar and are you stood far enough away with no other bright lights (sunlight) in the way?
  21. It shouldn't take that long. You should reach out to Reg at Desert Island Fruits. Try just posting something and ask. Reg is a great bloke and will get you set up in no time I'm sure.
  22. Hi all, I use my monitor in portrait mode for MFME (fruit machine emulation). Does anyone have any recommendations for a simple theme for portrait mode? My PC is very slow so something that is very basic and leaning towards speed rather than glitz and glamour would be ideal? Thanks for any pointers (also any advice on speeding Big Box up and lowering the resources it needs - I seem to remember seeing a thread ages ago about things you could switch on/off in order to speed up the software but can't find it again now). Thanks ?
  23. You want MFME v19 mate. That is the latest version. It's got an 'online updater' too. So you can tell it to check for updates and it will download the latest one (which currently stands at v19.5)
