  1. Probably a bit. As far as I know, it's just fancier transitions or bezels. I wouldn't call it a smoother launch necessarily, just a fancier launch. It probably does do a bit to hide some stuff, but if you have LaunchBox set the way you do or you launch your game or emulator in full screen, you get the same effect in the end. If the extra stuff is something you want, then RL is the way to go if you want the extra stuff it provides.
  2. By hide the OS, if you mean BigBox or LaunchBox pops up instead of Explorer, then that is totally doable and people do this. Otherwise, BigBox / LaunchBox launching your media in fullscreen is going to be what happens anyways, so why add a middle man?
  3. If you want to use RL, you need to set it up as the emulator, so then RL needs to completely handle RA in that instance. I also don't really have any plans to make an RL Tutorial at all. That could potentially change in the future, but I just honestly have no desire in that area.
  4. Bsnes Balanced carries the same compatibility but lowers the requirements a bit. Balanced is what I use.
  5. Name: Retro Style Spotlight - 8-16-16 - LaunchBox Backup, Mednafen Saturn, GBC RPG Infinity, Chrono Cross Category: News and Entertainment Date Added: 2016-08-19 Submitter: SentaiBrad This weeks edition of Retro Style Spotlight talks about last weeks tutorial all about how to backup your LaunchBox install, parts of, or your entire PC. The two big news stories this week center around the update to Mednafen to include the Sega Saturn as apart of the systems it can emulate and all about the long lost Game Boy Color RPG called Infinity created by Affinix Software. This month in gaming is about the epic and critically acclaimed JRPG Chrono Cross for the PS1. 6. Name: How to Backup LaunchBox & Your Entire PC - LaunchBox Tutorial (aka the Public Service Announcement) Category: Tutorials Date Added: 2016-08-13 Submitter: SentaiBrad In this tutorial, I go over how to backup the essential pieces to your LaunchBox folder in case you need it, or how to backupt your entire LaunchBox install, or the entire drive it's on. I also go over how it applies to your entire PC. After losing my production drive and having to go through the reconstruction, this Tutorial really turned in to a PSA because it hits very close to home for me. Everything in this tutorial can be applies to the essential LB files, the entire install, or your entire PC, which ever you feel like you need to have. 7. Name: Emulating the SNES - How to Set Up Retroarch for Beginners - LaunchBox Tutorials [Updated Tutorial] Category: Tutorials Date Added: 2016-08-11 Submitter: SentaiBrad Today's tutorial is back to basics so that everyone of any skill level can utilize this tutorial and learn how to get SNES up and running and how to set up RetroArch through LaunchBox. I cover importing your SNES games, adding RetroArch to the emulators list, updating RetroArch if you already have it, setting the core in RetroArch, some basic settings like adding and using a PS4 controller with InputMapper, setting custom configs and shader's in RetroArch. I also show you two awesome websites as bonuses, RetroAchievements.org and RomHacking.net, both sites which are invaluable to emulation. If you have any questions about anything covered in this tutorial please leave us a comment below or head on over to the forums to ask your questions of us there. List of cores that have Achievements (may be outdated or updated at anytime) These are the cores I recommend for Achievements, but the list may be bigger (like Snes9x also works for SNES, but bsnes is a better core). 8. Yea, everything seems to be running more smoothly.
  9. Now that we can delete games though, that won't be a problem. As long as the reason is for duplication in this case.
  10. Well I would say no right now, we're gonna probably split the Database up a bit more to add Win 3.x and Win 9.x systems. As far as it being a game? I guess it qualifies.
  11. The Associated Platform name needs to match the name of the platform you use in LaunchBox. So if you are calling it Mega Drive, then you need to edit your RetroArch Associated Platform names to match. This is why I said to watch the tutorials the other day. :P Don't forget to use the Scrape As feature if you call it something other than the default platform so you can scrape it as the proper platform so you can get all the metadata and media properly associated and downloaded.
  12. This is super impressive. I would very much love a pack of these when they're done!
  13. No, this already exists. It's called XAML, and it's essentially what BigBox is built on. The Theme folder already exists and there is a sub forum here where users are already submitting their theme creations. It's been out for about a month and a half. There are some threads on what to do with the files and what not. I don't have any experience with it, but those threads and users can help you out.
  14. Of course, no problem! I'm glad you got it fixed up, enjoy your games.
  15. Playing a song on your channel is generally not Fair Use, unless you use it constructively. A bad review being flagged is blatant abuse, and YouTube is actually trying to fix that. DRM and Fair Use are completely different though. A DMCA take down of content, is actually, usually right. Most of the time, and I would say a big percentage of videos that get flagged are actually correct. Being flagged and being taken down are also two completely different things. I've been flagged many times in the past, but it doesn't count against you or the channel. A take down is the big deal, when you get an actual strike. Reviews being taken down are a big deal though, and are usually fair use and not ok to be taken down because someone didn't like it. That is straight up abuse. Someone making a video and including a song they don't own is generally not ok. Same deal with the DRM situation, both sides are technically correct, but it's the one's with the money or power that generally abuse the system and the average person gets caught in the middle.
  16. Western Digital or HGST drives are some of the best, and they do cost more because of it. I got an 8TB Western Digital external for $250 that I took out of the case and put in to my PC (8TB internal was way more expensive), and it works great. The Western Digital MyBooks are great drives. I have 2 4TB's and the 8TB in my PC. Some drives can be recoverable, but it's usually a crap shoot.
  17. Probably not to be honest. We recognize that ScummVM is in dire need of a reworking though, so we might be able to work something like this in. We know DOS even needs the ability to be able to swap between versions and forks, we just didn't know one existed for ScummVM either.
  18. DropBox has the ability to create folders that automatically upload to your account, and download to other PC's. So you set up the folder on two PC's, you put your LaunchBox folder in there, and it automatically uploads. On the second PC, once the upload is done it automatically downloads to the second PC. If GoogleDrive has something like this, then sure. Amazon Drive would also probably be a good choice. With these programs, you can actually just have your LaunchBox install in these folders, run it and utilize LaunchBox like normal, but it uploads and downloads in the background which is why DropBox was always suggested from us in this manner. Obviously that doesn't work well if you don't have the space for it though. Just my images would blow a 15GB limit (less for DropBox) out right away, hence why I would potentially showcase just the important stuff.
  19. Also, what emulator are you trying this with? There have been Controller Automation changes.
  20. If I recall, the dolphin bar can mess with controllers, so unplug that or change the settings to test there first. Otherwise, there was a thread on here about someone else having issues with controller automation after the last beta, and it turns out it was a settings issue, so the specific settings may have been corrupted. https://www.launchbox-app.com/forum/games-database-troubleshooting/entering-and-exiting-pcsx2/page-2#p22920
  21. In terms of DropBox, I would actually only be showing off how to back up LaunchBox specifically, as I don't have the cloud size nor the money to do that, and I would actually assume most don't want to either. So when I do this, backing up everything including games and emulators would most likely be saved for pc to pc syncing.
  22. Thoughts on any of this? I can probably assume most users here would say DRM is the devil. Let's keep the conversation fair and civil though. People or companies who utilize DRM aren't always trying to make our lives harder, but rather protect what they have from real issues that really do lose them money. There are some indie companies out there who do lose a lot of money to piracy. We've even had piracy issues, but we were able to fix them and we still believe DRM is mostly a waste of time and would rather make a killer product. We were able to find a way to do both without introducing DRM. Some products are not as easy of a fix, so obviously it's very complicated. We're not all as fortunate as CD Projekt Red who can not put in DRM and still sell 10 million copies so in a lot of cases it actually helps. Everyone who employs it is not greedy, but then we get to the bigger companies who would tend to view this more as a business venture instead and only employ DRM to try and make it as hard as possible instead of trying to create a better product. Both sides are valid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wwxjSMiLbA
  23. Ok so you certainly have a powerful enough Laptop to power a big TV. Update your drivers, restart your PC and let me know if this changes anything. It's also worth asking, has this problem only ever happened when launching a game through LaunchBox, or if any games is launched on the laptop to the TV?
  24. Yea, that's actually a super unique tutorial request. I've never thought to do this either! I can see that being two tutorials, as that would be a ton of info all at once, but this is exactly why I asked the community! I use the program daily, so does Jason, and now we have Kirsten, but we're the team behind the product and not the direct paying customers. So usually, most users have a way different perspective on these sort of things. Features Jason thinks would be awesome are not what the majority would want (Like the my collection social features), and my set up is way different than yours, or Derek's, or Cid's, so sometimes I just simply wont think of it because I don't use it. The second option, for syncing across your network, there is software out there, but I will have to take some time and test this out with mine and my wife's PC, so this will actually take some time to get to honestly. Both will be worked in to the rotation though, so thank you for the suggestions!
  25. Oh, and have you updated your Drivers for your laptop at all? Run this and let it do it's thing: http://www.iobit.com/en/driver-booster.php
