If you said that in the states people would look at you like a crazy person. The only mosy here is "I'm gonna mosey on down to the store and pick up some Reese's Puffs. You want anything?"
-
As in mo-squit-o. A skeeter is a mosquito. It's also a character in Doug (which is what I posted the image of) haha.

Lil' bit, yeah Cool, I'll accept it when I get home tonight. Nice haha

A not uncommon tale from those days haha. Games didn't mess around I played Diablo I but II is what really hooked me. I definitely spent an obscene amount of time in that game. Games have been (rightfully) described as glorified Skinner Boxes by some, and there's few examples where that concept is more apparent than Diablo; and the scary part is that I keep coming back while fully cognizant of that fact haha. I don't think they've announced a hard date yet, but I believe it's this year. It's been on PTR for a bit (and I still haven't tried it out either).

I've been into the genre since Diablo 2. If I'm being honest, that's probably my favorite genre. In terms of sheer hours of games played, it would most definitely be at the top. I made the mistake of calculating my total hours in Diablo 3 a while back (they break it down per-class) and it was something like 1200 hours

I love action RPGs like Diablo, Grim Dawn, Sacred, Torchlight, Titan Quest, Path of Exile, etc. so I'm all about the loot haha. I thought it was a great fit in Darksiders II, but again I'm predisposed to like it. Speaking of which, some of those games are on sale so I'll add those too.
-
The remastered version of the first game is apparently okay. It's the second one that's supposedly buggy. Also, no, no way on the first one being better haha. 2 has a bigger world and a loot system ala Diablo. Way more weapons and equipment to mess around with. To me, the second game does everything the first does except better and bigger.

I made another pass and added a few more games - Imperium Galactica II (my favorite 4x game of all time), Darksiders, and Darkest Dungeon. I would have added Darksiders II but apparently the "Deathfinitive Edition" (which seems to be the only version you can get digitally at this point) is kindof buggy. I haven't played that version so I can't recommend it in earnest. What I can say is that the original version of Darksiders II is fantastic. Darksiders is good, but Darksiders II is great. I've got the "Deathfinitive" version on Steam in addition to the normal one (they gave it out for free to preexisting owners) but I haven't actually tried it - guess I'll have to check it out. It'd be a shame if the bugs were as significant as some are claiming because it really is a great game.

If you've never played Dragon's Dogma that'd be my recommendation. It's got a big world to explore (with tons of secrets) with some interesting lore. The combat is really great and there's a wide range of classes which you can switch between to find one that works best for your preferred playstyle (and they're all really good). It's one of the few games that actually makes magic seem as incredibly powerful as it should - summoning giant meteors or tornadoes is pretty awe-inspiring. You can even climb around on the larger monsters ala Shadow of the Colossus and go all stabby stabby on them. The pawn system is neat - it lets you create a follower character that you can customize and equip as you see fit and you can then recruit up to two other pawns that were created by other players. It lets you custom tailor your crew as you see fit. The game gives you a lot of freedom - freedom to go where you want, do what you want, and play the way you want to play. Bitterblack Isle is the expansion content that came with the Dark Arisen version and it's great. It's a multi-level labyrinthine dungeon with some really tough enemies - it's basically the "end-game" content and it's awesome. Just don't go there until you're very well equipped - even if you're wiping out the normal enemies near the end of the game with ease you can have some trouble in Bitterblack Isle. Highly highly recommended.

If you've got beefy enough hardware to run TW3 maxed out... hoo boy it's a pretty game. Dragon's Dogma is sooo good. I loved it even on PS3 where it had a lot of technical problems - all of which are completely gone in the PC port. I'd already beaten it on PS3 but I put another 115 hours into the PC version. Really great and really underrated in my opinion. Hopefully we'll get a sequel some day. I love Raiden, but I wasn't too thrilled by the reviews of Raiden Legacy. I'd rather play the arcade versions in MAME. It's not a money thing - I just don't see the point in playing a bad port when I can play the original and it be great. I do have Raiden IV: Overkill though and like it quite a bit.

Can you, technically? Yes. Should you? No. I think @jayjay summed things up pretty nicely. You're not just buying into a piece of software with Launchbox, you're buying into a great developer that works like crazy every day to constantly update that software, and a knowledgeable and helpful community that'll do its best to help you overcome any hurdles you encounter. It's a lot of bang for your buck, in my estimation.

Nope... just played a *lot* of Riven as a kid hahaha

Ehh, last time I used one I definitely still had to switch via hotkeys just like with .m3us. If anybody wants a game to quickly test, I usually recommend Riven - it's a 5-disc game and you can get to disc 2 in literally about two minutes. Walk up some stairs, go across the bridge, go into the room on the left and hit the switch on the right, go back out, turn left and continue to the end of the hall and open the door, exit to the right of the room, press the button to call the rail car, go into the car and hit the lever with the knob to turn it around, press the lever in the middle to move it forward - switch to disc 2. ...and the sad part is that's from memory hahaha

I don't follow you - .pbps and .m3us are functionally identical in Mednafen (both RA and standalone). You still have to send the "open tray" -> "next (or previous) disc" -> "close tray" inputs, whether you're using .pbp or .m3u. The only difference is that they're getting merged into a single file with .pbps (and have a slightly smaller filesize). The functionality in-emulator is the same. In Retroarch you can assign those functions to hotkeys (or do it through the Quick Menu) so for me I use the numpad keys "0" (open/close tray), "+" (next disc), and "-" previous disc. They have default bindings in Mednafen standalone. I don't, sorry. Like I said, I use .m3us. I just know I've read of people mentioning that a few games are apparently incompatible with .pbps. Yeah, it's fine. If you set the renderer to Software it should be identical to the non-HW core, and if you decide you want to play around with things you can always enable them later and save them in per-game overrides.

I don't have any specific experience with that controller, but I've got some instructions on how to use DOSBox + 360 controller here: As I mention there, your mileage is going to vary because it depends entirely on the game. Some stuff will work natively simply by setting your .conf like I indicate in the post and some stuff will only work via the DOSBox remapper (which apparently isn't working for you, for some reason).

Sounds like your friend needs a new source for his games. I wouldn't touch something with an .exe with a 30 foot pole. Personally, the vast majority of my PSX library is ripped (with ImgBurn) from my own collection. With that said, there are (multiple) other sources out there that don't have any of the kind of crap you're referring to - TruRip, Redump, etc. Avoid the "paradise of emulation" like the plague when it comes to anything disc-based.

The HW core is fine. The issue isn't the core, it's with renderers other than Software and/or some of the PGXP options. If you set the renderer to Software in the core it works just as well as the normal core, but still gives you the option to mess around with things (Vulkan/GL+PGXP) if you so choose, without switching cores. Of 421 games tested, 5 had some kind of dramatic compatibility issue (this is an issue with Mednafen itself, mind you, not the HW core). I use ImgBurn myself. As Brad mentioned, you can either mount the .cue via DT and direct ImgBurn to the appropriate virtual drive or just direct ImgBurn to the .cue itself. Assuming the .cue sheet is correct - and that is a pretty big assumption mind you - you can output it to a new single .bin + .cue. As far as multi-disc games, I use .m3us. .pbps are fine too, though I think there's a handful of games that have compatibility issues with them. I found the conversion process in PSX2PSP to be more time consuming than simply making .m3us for them, personally.

Actually, they do work. I show how to enable them in the video via unsafe_save_states = 1. Per Frode, you should also enable relative_temp_feature = 1 to ensure greater reliability for them. I've tried it with a few games and it's seemed to work fine.
