  1. Fair enough. And now, as they'd say on Flying Circus, for something completely different. A bunch of stuff I used to be super into but haven't broken out in a really long time: Ozric Tentacles have been around for many many moons, though with various members coming and going over the years. Their sound hasn't really changed a whole lot though, despite that; in fact the phrase is often tossed around that if you've heard one of their albums you've heard them all. That's kinda true I guess, but it also means if you like pretty much anything you hear from them, you'll probably like all of it. I still really like these guys, I just have to be in the right mood to listen to them. There was a period when I thought The Human Equation was the greatest album ever made. I find it kinda cringey now, but I still respect the musicianship and I still have a soft spot for concept albums, even though they seem to fall flat on their face more often than they succeed. This one's basically the same story as Ayreon - I used to be really into Symphony X but over time I just couldn't get into this kind of stuff much anymore. I still think Symphony X kicks Dream Theater's ass though haha. Here we go again, basically the same story - I used to blast the shit out of Kurenai by X Japan when I was in high school. Again, really talented musicians but this stuff is pretty cringe haha. I suppose most people probably change their tastes over time. The internet is a big part of that. There was a period where I listened to nothing but Korn, but I didn't know any better because I had a very small (relatively speaking) amount of music that I'd actually been exposed to. There's way more stuff out there than any of us will ever be able to listen to, which is why it amazes me that turning on the radio leads to the same handful of songs over and over and over. I have no idea why people would lock themselves down to the same handful of bands when there's an incalculable amount of stuff out there waiting for people to find. Thanks to things like last.fm/pandora/spotify and sites like bandcamp and soundcloud that's not even that difficult - find something you like and see what pops up as related or similar. Many of my favorite bands I found that way - it almost never starts out looking for them specifically.
  2. I've heard the name, though I haven't heard any of their stuff before. Musically/instrumentation wise I like it, but something about the vocals aren't quite doing it for me. It's a little different stylistically too - I tend to like the stuff that's a bit like stadium/arena rock in folk form. That specific niche is something that Of Monsters and Men, Mumford & Sons, and The Oh Hellos really nail. Folk "anthem" rock I guess. Genre names are dumb...
  3. No I haven't but hot damn I really dig that. I love new folk/folk rock/indie folk or whatever the hell you want to call it. Mumford & Sons, Of Monsters and Men, The Oh Hellos, The Lumineers, Judah & The Lion etc.
  4. I kindof just listen to a whole lot of stuff and when I find something that works for me it leads to a lot of tangential rabbit hole searching. Country of origin is never even a factor for me - if I find something I like, I like it. It just so happens that that leads to a not insignificant number of "Oh, hey, they're from Europe" moments. There are still plenty of US-based bands that I really enjoy though. (funnily enough, Melody Gardot is American but from what I understand is a lot more popular in Europe than she is over here)
  5. Yep haha. I really like Goldfrapp, especially their more avant garde stuff ala Felt Mountain. I've always been more a fan of their folkie side than their pop side. I've heard Silver Eye is sortof a mix of the two. I haven't actually listened to it yet. I'll have to give it a spin today.
  6. To be fair, there are some artists that practically define themselves by having a varying/inconsistent style from one album to another. Stuff like Goldfrapp, for example. That's a little easier to swallow when that very inconsistency is consistent from one album to another though; and each album has it's own internal consistency. I feel like once you establish a distinctive sound across multiple albums and then just decide to do something completely different it makes it harder to accept. Of course, I fully support artists having the freedom to do whatever they want creatively, but it's difficult to change things to a significant degree and not alienate your existing audience; and at the same time you don't want to sound exactly the same from one album to the next or else you start to bore people. It's a difficult balance, I think.
  7. WTF? No, I hadn't heard it. It's not that it's completely terrible unto itself, it's just that it doesn't sound like Kasabian. I always liked how rough around the edges their music was and how they'd sometimes go off on bizarre tangents in their songs. That sounds really generic by comparison. Why do bands do this? I couldn't tell you how many times I've listed to the first two Mumford and Sons albums; absolutely love them. Then that third album came out... generic pop rock yay! Just what I always wanted!
  8. @slimskinny that reminds me a bit of Kasabian. Have you ever listened to them?
  9. You can use NoMousy if you want, as Brad mentioned - I use it for a few things like CCS64 and Demul. One other option that you could try, simply because it's super-simple and doesn't require any external apps at all, is to simply add this to the AHK tab of the emulator: MouseMove, 1920, 1080 This moves your mouse to the very bottom right of the screen when you start the emulator, to the point that it shouldn't be visible. The above assumes that you're using a 1080p resolution. If you're using a different resolution, adjust it accordingly.
  10. Which video plugin (config -> plugins and paths) are you using for Demul? There's gpuDX11 and gpuDX11ng. This is what I've got for mine: And this is what I have in graphics config: And this is what I have on my emulator details tab in LB: If this is what you've got and it's still not running in fullscreen I'm inclined to think you've got some kind of external software that's interfering - maybe something set in the Nvidia control panel or with Nvidia Share or whatever the ATI equivalents are if you've got an ATI card.
  11. NullDC "works" insomuch as it plays some games decently... sometimes. It's nowhere near as accurate overall as Demul. There are plenty of games that have major problems with NullDC. There are games that have issues in Demul as well, mind you, but not as many. Even games as major as Shenmue have huge visual problems in NullDC.
  12. I'm pretty sure Demul just remembers whatever you had it running as when you closed it - in other words if it's in full screen when you exit the emulator it loads back up in full screen the next time you start it. I believe that's what Demul does anyway. As far as the crashing, try checking the "attempt to hide console window at startup" in the emulator entry in LB.
  13. You should try out CCS64. It has an awesome "Maximum 1541 Speed" feature that automatically detects when a game is loading data and speeds up the emulation speed to something like 1000% and when it's done loading it drops it back down to normal. It's basically a warp feature that turns on and off automatically. I'm a C64 nut and CCS64 is my go-to emulator. The feature is in the "Special" options section. You'll probably want to set it to "On - Quiet" which is the same thing as "On" except that "On" increases the speed and shows a message box indicating that it's doing it and "On - Quiet" does it without showing the box - it just does it. It should be noted that it only works for disk formats though. You can still manually engage warp, but Maximum 1541 Speed only kicks in for disk formats. The vast majority of stuff that you'd (probably) want on C64 is available in a disk image format though.
  14. You may want to to just install it manually via DOSBox. That's what I normally do with DOS games. I mount them to a virtual drive and then install them in DOSBox. Here's an example of how I did this with Rayman: The process is basically the same from one game to another. You mount the location where you want to install the game as C: and the location of the virtual drive as D:, change to the D: drive, and install the game.
  15. I like Muse but I'm not a giant Muse fan. It's kinda weird, it's a bit like I am with Radiohead - I tend to like a lot of bands that sound a lot like Radiohead and Muse more than I actually like Radiohead and Muse haha. Pineapple Thief and Amplifier for example.
  16. A lot of my favorite bands do happen to be from Europe, though I don't start out looking for them that way haha; it's just where I find myself ending up most of the time. Chvrches, iamamiwhoami, Porcupine Tree, The Pineapple Thief, Mumford & Sons, Low Roar, Imogen Heap, Daughter... I swear it's not intentional hahaha
  17. I'm in the US. Tennessee specifically.
  18. Yeah that's been a recurring thing in the show for a little while now - Lorde is actually Randy haha. Have you ever listened to any stuff by Banks or Lana Del Rey by the way? Goddess, by Banks is, I would say, a kinda meh album but it's got some standout tracks like Beggin For Thread and Waiting Game. I've never known quite what to make of Lana Del Rey to be honest, but I like her stuff even if it's a bit on the avant garde side. Of course, I like FKA Twigs too and I couldn't really tell you why. I feel like if Aphex Twin turned into some kind of weird female-led R&B band it'd be FKA Twigs.
  19. Melodrama, her next album, is coming out June 16. I'm looking forward to it. I always think of this scene though hahaha
  20. I had a hard time picking just two songs, let alone one, from this album. I do love me some indie folk, and I love Of Monsters and Men. Beneath the Skin and My Head Is an Animal are both killer albums.
