That's how I feel about the term "toon". It sends me into a murderous rage.

I've never heard it referred to as a shump. I call em shmups. Semi-related, my wife refers to FPSs as "shooty games".

CityHunter Background Videos View File These are some (10 currently) cyperpunk-themed background videos designed to be used with the CityHunter Big Box theme. I am not the creator of the original artwork used in these videos - all credit for the art goes to them. I simply converted them into a video format and did some cropping and color adjustment (because they look slightly darker once they're in Big Box). Most of these (all but "Camera" currently) are the work of the incredibly-talented kirokaze of DeviantArt. If he (or any other artists whose work are used in these) would like me to take them down, they can send me a message or post a comment and I'll remove them immediately. These need to be placed in Launchbox -> Themes -> CityHunter -> Videos -> BackgroundVideo. The video has to be named "Background.mp4" so choose the one you want to use and rename it to that. I also recommend setting your "Background Fade" to 0% in Options -> Views in order to keep them from being too dark. Enjoy! Submitter Zombeaver Submitted 06/16/2017 Category Big Box Custom Themes

The LB DB only has what users put into it. Complaining about it instead of improving it isn't going to help. It's dependent on users like you and I to make submissions. You understand that this isn't something like the NES right (which had a total of 712 games)? There was something like 4000 games released for the Amiga (exact numbers are spotty). And among that significantly larger library, modern documentation is significantly worse than the likes of Nintendo consoles. Many games are missing covers even on Mobygames, which has been around for almost twenty years. It doesn't help that Amiga is ostensibly a good deal more "niche" than a number of other platforms. I'm not trying to be harsh, but there seems to be this common misconception that there's a team of people behind the scenes getting paid to upload content to the DB - there isn't. It's entirely dependent on volunteers - Launchbox users. If you want it to be better, I'd encourage you to help make it better.

Which database? Do you mean the OAGD (now OpenRetro) not having the games you're trying to import or the LB DB not having metadata? Both of those can be an issue, honestly. If the game isn't on OpenRetro you'll have to make your own config like I show in the video. If it's not in the LB DB I usually use a combination of Mobygames and Google Images to get what I need.

This is what the "loading" message box was designed to address, but admittedly it's not always perfect. It used to be there was no visual feedback at all and the only way you knew was because of the accept/enter sound effect that played. I just kindof learned early on to just give it a moment and not mash the button a bunch of times Some amount of improvement is probably possible but you have to keep in mind that we're dealing with a lot of different pieces of software that you're trying to fit into one box - it's not like every single platform is under the banner of RA - it's not just a single piece of software that has to be built around, it's many; and those myriad pieces of software often behave differently. Some launch some additional piece of software in the background, or create a command prompt, or any number of things. Because of this difference in behavior from one application to another, it's reasonable to assume that there isn't necessarily a consistent method of determining "Okay, it's done. You can play now." That's my take on it, anyway. I do think it's worth ticketing though.

You should try something like this: I've played FPSs since Wolfenstein 3D. There were none on console to speak of other than awful ports of PC games like Wolfenstein and Doom. From Quake onwards mouse and keyboard was basically the only way to go; anything else is objectively worse in terms of accuracy and control. If a controller is the only control method available for an FPS, I won't play it.
-
First person shooters are to be played with mouse and keyboard only. This is basically rule numero uno in the PC gamer bible. Only savages use a controller in an FPS.

I've really been enjoying it. It wasn't really on my radar but I read some reviews where people were mentioning RPG elements and loot and I was like "Wait...what?". It also resulted in my wife unintentionally (but justifiably) indicting most modern shooters when she walked into the room and said "This is... very colorful for a shooty game" hahaha

Yep, that's correct. It works on on PS3, PS4, Xbone, 360 and PC (and apparently Android?) - for PS4, Xbone and 360 you have to have the relevant controller plugged into the USB port on the front. For PS3 or PC you just plug it in.
-
Yeah, for sure. It's a really good price for a good stick that's compatible with several consoles in addition to PC. It works great with MAME and just emulators in general - it has switches for dinput or xinput so if you set it to xinput it'll function just like a normal 360 controller. I did a lot of research and shopping around before I landed on the F300 and I'm really happy with it.

I have the F300 as well. I haven't modded it at all but I actually thought it felt pretty good just as stock.

I picked up Shadow Warrior 2 a couple days ago and it's been really great so far. It surprised me how much Borderlands is in its DNA - you level up and allocate skill points, there are a lot of different weapons and each weapon has gem slots and you pickup gems from enemies that will augment them in any number of ways like adding elemental damage, making projectiles bounce/explode/pierce, wield the gun akimbo etc. and between missions you have a central hub with NPCs where you can pickup side quests. The combat is really good, especially melee combat. It's incredibly visceral and fun. I've got about 8 hours in it at this point and the completion percentage is something like 30ish percent.

It depends on the game but cracktros will typically require you to click, yes. WHDLoad versions don't have cracktros at all, which is one of the reasons I recommend them. They also have significantly faster load times and no disk swapping. That said, you could also try something like this:

Yeah, haha. You can, of course, still check it in .cmd form by simply dragging it into Notepad++ (or equivalent); but given that most people aren't going to have .cmds with a file association of Notepad that'd be one extra step beyond double clicking on it. It's just that it's marginally less time-consuming to drag it into Notepad to verify than it is to double click on it, verify, then rename the file extension.

I've edited nielk's bat so that it outputs to .cmd rather than .txt so you don't have to rename them: CMD Creator.bat

I've picked up a few things so far: Butcher Odallus: The Dark Call Megarace 1+2 Blood 2 Rune Classic Might & Magic 7 Might & Magic 8 Gabriel Knight 2 Dragon Age Origins Ultimate (already have it on Steam, but it was $4 and I love DA:O)

Lately I've been playing a couple things: Wasteland 2 Pillars of Eternity Diluvion Grim Dawn Path of Exile Brigador Victor Vran Wasteland 2 and Pillars of Eternity have been my video game D&D fix lately. While Pillars more obviously fits that description on the surface, make no mistake - Wasteland 2 is most assuredly a D&D dungeon crawler with a post-apocalyptic coat of paint. As a D&D nut, I'm totally fine with that. Both of these games are definitely a huge time sink/investment though. Diluvion is a really neat submarine exploration/combat/survival game that I'm really enjoying - I feel like we don't have enough cool submarine games. Treasures of the Deep was one of my favorites on PSX. Diluvion looks and sounds really good, and it's got some neat RPG mechanics mixed in with your submarine/crew management. It's really atmospheric too. Grim Dawn and Path of Exile have been my "I'm bored and I don't know what I want to play, let's put on a podcast or some OTR and turn the old brain off for a couple hours" games lately. Path of Exile really pissed me off the other day though so I'll probably be stepping away from it for a bit - I have a level 81 Ranger and the game can be kindof frustrating on Merciless. I feel like the death penalty in that game is just way too high when you get high in levels - you can lose hours worth of experience in a single death, and it's kindof left me in limbo at 81 because it takes a really long time to level at that point, even without any deaths. The way the difficulty spikes on some of the bosses is kindof obscene too. Grim Dawn is a comparatively "relaxing" experience - I just hit 70 on my main character (a Druid) and am working on finishing up the campaign on Elite difficulty. Brigador is a bit like a mix between Future Cop L.A.P.D. and Crusader: No Remorse. It's pretty fun to drop in for short play sessions doing freelance missions and unlocking new equipment. You have a number of different objectives per mission but they generally amount to "demolish everything". It's got a great soundtrack by Makeup and Vanity Set of which I was already a huge fan before playing the game, so that's an added bonus. Victor Vran I just started last night and I'm really enjoying it so far. It's another hack and slash ARPG but unlike some it actually plays really well with a controller. It's still early at this point but so far I'm liking it even more than I expected.

You can specify as many (or as few) folders, drives, etc. as you want. You can give it specific locations that you want it to backup or just drop in all your drives and let it go. You can also include specific file types to exclude if you so choose. There isn't a limit on drives/storage. I don't think it would delete anything but I'm not 100% on that one.

I use BackBlaze as well. It's still got a good ways to go at this point (around 3TB uploaded of 10TB queued) but it keeps truckin' along
