Installer VS Zipped Archive For Emulators
Lordmonkus replied to bvcbcvbcvbcvbvcbvcbcv's topic in Noobs
Thanks for clearing that up, I don't use the stand alone at all since the RA core became a thing but I remembered it was a thing and was relevant to the conversation about sometimes zip archive emulators not always being portable out of the box. -
Controller automation volume & Retroarch problem
Lordmonkus replied to Drodrik's topic in Troubleshooting
It's all good. You can remap the stuff in RA though I have never done it aside from the different systems game controllers. I left the RA shortcuts alone since I never use them and LB stuff doesn't interfere for me since I never use the volume up and down, that's only for LB not the emulators.- 38 replies

Try remapping them in the RA gui. Also I was not responding aggressively at all, I am just very blunt and to the point and your post didn't make any sense in the context it was posted.- 38 replies

What you are describing sounds like a conflict of controls, either remap your controls in LB or in RA to something that is different.- 38 replies

Yeah, just create your own categories based on genre and edit your platforms to edit the category they appear under.

Controller automation volume & Retroarch problem

Figured what out ? Of course it doesn't if it's turned off. What ? What does this have to do with anything discussed up until this point ? Again, what does this have to do with anything discussed up until this point ?- 38 replies

Mame settings ignored when launched in BigBox 8.6
Lordmonkus replied to twoeleven211's topic in Troubleshooting
They don't exist in Launchbox, they are all a part of your Mame setup. -

I don't know if leaving a copy in the \ini folder would effect it or not but it wouldn't hurt to try moving it out and seeing. -

Lordmonkus replied to twoeleven211's topic in Troubleshooting
Is your mame.ini file located in the main Mame folder where the exe is located or in the \ini folder ? It should be moved to the main folder if it is not there. -

Are you using RocketLauncher ? I don't use RL and Launchbox has no problems with Mame and my settings. -

Installer VS Zipped Archive For Emulators
Lordmonkus replied to bvcbcvbcvbcvbvcbvcbcv's topic in Noobs
I can't answer anything regarding could storage at all. What I would suggest though if you want a truly portable LB is to watch ETA Primes video about it. Simply install your setup to an external hard drive or USB stick, then all you would need on any system you wish to use it is any of the required libraries like Direct X and .NET. -

Awesome to hear a new and improved version is in the works. @Thornback what bombshell exactly did I drop ? The only posts I have in this thread is one saying great job on the plugin and the other letting Alec know that Launchbox Next is now feature complete and replaced the old LB.- 183 replies

Installer VS Zipped Archive For Emulators
Lordmonkus replied to bvcbcvbcvbcvbvcbvcbcv's topic in Noobs
It just depends on the emulator, like I said above some emulators despite being a simple zip archive still are not portable. Some emulators have an option of being portable if they are not out of the box, 2 examples I gave above would be Dolphin and Mesen. Dolphin requires you to make a txt file called portable.txt in the Dolphin emulator folder and Mesen requires you to rename the executable to Mesem_p.exe. You will just have to check each emulator you decide to use. -
Use the old importer for a partial set import. If you have a full set you use the new importer and filter out the stuff you don't want. Many people like myself keep full sets on our drives, hard drive space is cheap and it is much easier to update a full set.
-
If you want to import a partial set you should use the old import method.
-
Your file total still doesn't align with a full set which the importer is meant to be used with. A complete 201 Non Merged set is 35,770 files.
-
Yeah, Merged set has less files than actual games, all the clones are packed into the games zip file. The importer, if you chose to add all the clones that would inflate the game total compared to the file count.
-
What rom set are you using ? Merged ? Edit: Actually it looks like a Split set but not a full set and the importer uses the database, not your actual files. My Split set is just over 35,000 files.

I just tested this and controller automation in Launchbox mode is working perfectly for me. I can navigate and launch games using my controller, I can close them out with my controller and I can regain full control over Launchbox with my controller though I do have to press the Square button on my PS controller to regain navigation control.
-
Are you sure it is not just still caching images ? I find once the images are all cached in I can switch platforms and scroll through my games and my images are either instant loading or very quick to load, much faster than the old LB. Edit: I would also like to add the Launchbox Next has been in beta testing for several months now by myself, the other mods and many users and we all have found the new Launchbox Next to be superior in every way. It is much faster, is now fully customizable in looks and will make future development of features much easier and faster to come.

Installer VS Zipped Archive For Emulators
Lordmonkus replied to bvcbcvbcvbcvbvcbvcbcv's topic in Noobs
There is a lot of misinformation in this post, not that you are posting misinformation but a lot of what you are saying you have been told is for the most part incorrect. Being easier mostly true for beginner users of a computer. Incorrect, installers may give you more options to choose what parts are installed and not installed but you won't get more features, only the choice to remove some. Installers do have reason so saying there is no reason is just false and installing is in no way "obsolete". What ? Not true at all, just because something comes in a zip file rather than an installer it doesn't automatically mean portability. Some programs will still use your %user% folder to store settings. Dolphin (as far as I am aware) still requires you to make a txt file called portable.txt and Mesen still requires you to change the name of the executable to mesen_p.exe if you want a self contained portable mode of those emulators. This may have changed since I last checked though but they were like this so by simply being in a zip file did not make them portable. The start menu stuff is true but some programs can still leave registry entries and other files elsewhere like I explained above. Your personal preference, I tend to choose zip files myself but I am not bothered by installers at all. Neither. Nope, you won't gain or lose anything going either way. Some installers contain some required files for the software to work such as Direct X or .NET library files and will install them to their appropriate locations but often times these libraries are already installed on most peoples computers to begin with. As I said already, neither is superior to the other, just personal preference as to what you use. Installers are more beginner friendly but tend to be larger file size as they tend to include other files while zip files tend to be a bit smaller but may be daunting to users not used to using a compression program to extract a file where they want. Some people prefer a program to walk them through the installation process, it makes them feel more comfortable but in the end the software gets to where you want it to be on your hard drive. -
