Well the first 2 pictures look like database issues and connecting to it. The 3rd picture I could be wrong but off the top of my head my first guess is that Launchbox is trying to load an emulator you don't actually have. You may have to adjust the platform and emulator so that Launchbox knows which emulator you wish to use for that platform.

@DOS76Are you using Integer scaling and core aspect ratio ? Does NeoGeo even have any vertical oriented games ? I now there are some vertical scrolling but the monitor is still horizontal. I can't say anything about Wonderswan or Lynx since I can't be bothered with those systems. @polymorph77 Were you trying to use internal resolution scaling with RA PSX ?

3.4 GHz and Retroarch PSX is slow ? That seems weird because I used to have a 3.2 GHz AMD cpu and it was fine.

Hmm, interesting. I generally use the back button on my xbox controller or the left flipper button on my x-arcade tank stick and gotten this error so I don't think the buttons are failing. I just turned on free play and problem solved so I never thought about it after

It's an error in emulation. The way to get around this is to get into the games dip switch settings and turn on Free Play. I had to do this for a couple of the Cave games.

There is nothing inherently wrong with the Mame core in terms of speed but stand alone Mame is better for 2 main reasons for me. 1: Shaders do not auto rotate with vertical games so if you are using a scanline crt shader it's going to look bad on vertical games. If you don't use shader or you use some other non-scanline shader this may not be an issues. I prefer Mame with HLSL shader settings because it auto adjusts. 2: Controller rebinding in the Mame was funky the last time I tried it because of Mames built in binding. I prefer to rebind within Mame itself on a game by game basis. Playstation 2 you only have PCSX2 so there is no choice there for now Playstation 1, like I said above. I prefer Retroarch for 2D sprite games and ePSXe for 3D games because it does much better hardware resolution upscaling. Retroarch right now does it's upscaling on the CPU which is slow. Dreamcast, Demul is the best right now and the Retroarch Reicast core is just slow unless you got a beast of a system but Demul is still the better emulator overall. Saturn, Mednafen standalone right this moment is the better option only because it has support for 3d analong controller but the Retroarch core it hot on it's ass. SSF and Yabause are old news and crap in comparison. SSF is a good emulator but it is known for input lag and you have to deal with disk mounting. SNES, Retroarchs BSNES-Acurracy and Balanced cores are the best over all options but if you need some extra performance you got options with the Snes9x cores. Wii and Gamecube like PS2 you only have one option and that is Dolphin right now. Nintendo 64 is where things get messed up. Project64, Mupen64 stand alone and Mupen64 Retroarch all have their positives and negatives and neither is really better or worse than the other. It really is a game to game case on this system. Overall I would have to give the edge to the stand alone Mupen64 but Project64 is fine too once you disable the stupid "give us money" nag screen. Edit: Just a couple of thoughts after I had this posted. Retroarch does add some performance overhead. For example on my lower end laptop I have hooked up to the TV I cannot use the PSX or Mame cores in Retroarch but stand alone Mame and ePSXe run like a champ on it. It's a 1.5 GHz AMD cpu for reference.

Have you checked out Brads tutorial videos ? By the sounds of the error you are getting you either have moved your emulator or rom and they aren't where Launchbox is expecting to find them. There are several very good reasons to use Retroarch where possible for your emulation needs. This is not to say that it is necessarily better than the stand alone options out there but I think these reasons give an overall more consistent experience when switching systems. Reason #1: Hard Gpu Sync, this setting reduces input lag dramatically. Reason #2: Shaders, whether you use a CRT shader or another (and there are many other choices to suit your tastes) You can achieve the same look across all your games which IMO goes along way in making these old games look good on a modern display. Reason #3: Consistent easy controller setup out of the box and you can further tweak after to your needs if you have more controllers. I have 2 controllers I use and they are setup for each core. XBox controller for systems which require analog controls and another d-pad controller for systems and games that do not require analog controls. Reason #4: Much more consistent updates. The cores are constantly being updated on a much more regular basis than the vast majority of stand alone emulators. Reason #5: Easy save state management within the Retroarch Quick Menu There are other reasons but that's just 5 simple but really good reasons to use Retroarch where possible. Now that is not to say that RA is the absolute best option all the time. Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, PSP and Mame / Mess are better to use stand alone versions due to various reasons like speed. For Playstation I use the Retroarch PSX core for 2D sprite based games for shaders but for 3D polygonal games I will use ePSXe because it does much better hardware upscaling.

How do i select a different core for a specific mame game

Like Jason said your best bet is to get an updated rom set and use a newer build of stand alone Mame. But to answer your question specifically, if you are using Retroarch Mame and wish to use a different core for a specific game. Right click the game and edit, then go to the emulation tab of the edit window. Turn on Use Custom Command-Line Parameter and enter the following: -L "cores\core_name.dll" Obviously edit the core_name to match the name of the core dll you want for that game. -

Ahh, glad you figured it out. MameUI does it differently than the command line version of Mame. The command line version just has an ini file in the main folder where the exe is. There is an ini folder with a sub folder called presets and the ini files in there control things like shader settings but not rompaths.

Yabause and SSF are much more forgiving of bad dumps than Mednafen. "Uncorrectable data at sector 0" error message can be corrected. Check your file name, sometimes ones that are extra long and full of different characters cause problems. First try renaming the cue + bin names to something shorter (be sure to adjust the cue sheet to point to your renamed bin file). Are your files in simple cue + bin ? Or do they have mp3 or wav music files ? If you have music files you will need to mount the disk image in something like Daemon Tools Lite and then regenerate new a new cue + bin with ImgBurn. I did a video on fixing the mp3 / wav format dumps. Also try this for the uncorrectable data error if the renaming doesn't work.

Well if people are using Retroarch it's actually pretty simple through the RA interface. Other emulators is where it gets tricky and requires the use of RocketLauncher and that is beyond the non power users. Hell I don't even use RocketLauncher because of the level of ass pain it is. -
Just to warn you ahead of time on the 5200, the emulation itself seems fine enough but for some reason on some games (Moon Patrol for example) the 2nd button doesn't work. And X68000 emulation while it works, loading the games through Launchbox requires a bunch of extra work because of the need to mount multiple disks simultaneously for many games.

The reason this works so well in RetroPie is because it is using set emulator cores (libretro) to emulate, basically it's like using Retroarch with a different front end. This wouldn't work in Launchbox because there are so many emulators people are using and some of these functions either don't exist at all or are on different hot key combos all together. The only way to possibly do something like this right now is to use RocketLauncher but then you are looking at setting up that or recoding all those features into Launchbox which is not trivial for a one person dev team. There is an awful lot of backend work that would need to be done. It would be nice though. -
Yeah this is one area of emulation hopefully Mame / Mess catches up in soon.

It's been updated now to include the option to just download cores only and even just the cores you want and ignore the ones you don't want. I sent the dev of this tool a PM over there to post and upload over here. He said he would after he's done some more development and bug testing.

Yeah what Zombeaver said. Here is a quick run down on how to do this. Pick a button such as the back button. Right click it > set selector > set 2 > while held. Then click on the "2" tab at the bottom, this will put you on the 2nd set of mappings that will be active while holding the button you set above (back button in this example). Now on tab 2 set the 2 buttons you want as your alt + f4 combo or just one button if you prefer. Edit: All of this is assuming you know how to set up Xpadder in the first place, if not there are lots of great tutorial videos out there.
