Progress on my home theater PC + Room
Pyrometheous replied to Pyrometheous's topic in Collections and Builds
Thank you :-) PLEX was a bit of a "must have", I'm sad that Plex Home Theater isn't a thing anymore, it would be cool if I could make the PLEX interface match the BigBox interface, but I can deal with PLEX Media Player. At least I'll have DTS HDMA available when I watch my movies now. But BigBox is a really awesome front end for launching the media player from, but I do wish I could make it so Plex doesn't show up countless times in the wheel. But it's a small price to pay for the added convenience of it. -
I've been working on my collection, getting games installed, artwork collected, and integrating my regular media server (PLEX), and here is about where I am with my progress I've been working on this for a few months now. I'm getting close to finishing the front end/metadata part of it, I should be ordering hardware this summer and connecting everything up to my living room home theater. The theme I'm using is the NESiCAxLive Theme by @shoes23. I currently have everything mapped to work with a wired XBOX 360 controller, however I've been working long and hard at collecting USB adapters and controllers for the consoles that I'm emulating. Right now I think I've got my livingroom setup for the most part. Last year I took to wiring up my surround sound, and fishing all of the wires into my wall and under the house (scary down there...) Probably next year I'm going to have a projector/screen installed to complete, what I think, is the ultimate in home theater and gaming. This is a 3D model I made in Blender to sorta get an idea of what it'll look like when my project is completed. Not 100% to scale, but I did my best (I'm not a professional artist). Hopefully XENIA will have gotten more development in by then. Although you can play the Mass Effect games (via mods) with an XBOX 360 controller, it would be nice to remove the 360 from my setup and allow BigBox to be the center of all of my everything. Aside from XENIA making some progress, I think the only other thing I'd want is a way of having DD/DD+ from Netflix that can be launched from BigBox and still use a media remote or controller to navigate with. I'm currently looking at this hardware for my HTPC build. I'm trying my best to future proof, without completely breaking the bank. My goal is to get this HTPC setup, and a PS4 (looks like all of the XBONE exclusives are coming to PC soon), and keep my Roku 3 around, then that's it. I'll be fairly future proofed :-)

I think this is officially my favorite theme. I couldn't get the videos to work on the Rincewind Theme, so I was hunting around for a new one. And this one is amazing. I love how clean it all looks, and the clear logos on the top right of the screen are a really nice touch. The "Free Play" blinking in the corners are cool, I don't have my HTPC setup as an arcade cab, but they still look really nice on my projector screen. Overall, I'm pretty in love with this theme, great work @shro2016!!

@Rincewind ok, it's back to not working. I just updated my entire library's worth of vidoes (finally purchased a fulll emumovies license), and now the videos do play, but each video scales to the TV differently. Some of the videos are teeny tiny, and others will be off center, or some even scale up so you can only see a small part of the video on the TV. Not sure if that helps you out at all. Let me know if there is any extra info I can give you or anything I can do to help fix this :-) again thank you so much for your work on this theme and the platform logos!

@joeivo911 the extra ones that I've worked on are here. If you want to fill in any blanks. @SirCamel also takes requests for clear logos here, hopefully this might help you fill out your collection to look a bit better if you're missing a lot of images in your collection.

That's actually a really good point. I think that the auditing system would need be able to "know" if it was using a generic/blank art instead of the original artwork, and report that when you pull up the game. At least, that would be the only thing I could think of. But yeah, if this were to be a stock feature in LB/BB, the auditing would need to be able to account for this.

Thank you :-)

From my understanding, it is in the works. In the download area I've been working on and off for "blanks" for different consoles and discs.

You will probably need to start out by downloading and installing a version of the Microsoft Visual Studio for Windows 98. .NET is a sort of library of commands that you can call upon when writing in C++/C#, so instead of having to write a function to do something, if that same command is within the .NET Framework you have installed, you can save yourself some time and call on the pre-made version of what you're trying to do. (someone can correct me if I'm wrong on this, It's been a while since college, and I'm rusty.) Here are some playlists on YouTube that you can check out to get started. I wouldn't advise diving into the complicated stuff, but you can start off with the simple "Hello World" programs that most folks start out with. It gives you the basic understanding about how to present text on screen, and how your script should be formatted. Then just build from there as you go. C#, I think, is the easiest language to work with in visual studio, because it has a GUI builder and you can quickly make something look pretty, but I think I'd recommend C++ to get started. Even C# might be easier at first, you will miss out on a lot of the logic you learn from C++, and in the end, once you understand the basics of how programming logic works, it's pretty easy to pick up another programming language. I hope that helps a bit. I'm actually going to be diving back into programming myself soon(ish), I've had to do a lot of adulting lately and haven't found the free time I'd like to play around with things like that.

I'm not in the area, but I'm a big sucker for rescuing kitties (I've got 5 rescues right now). I'm way out in NV right now, so not really realistic for me to come her :-( But I have seen a lot of successful rescues on Craigslist, and on twitter. I have also learned, however, that a little background checking and an adoption fee can go a long way towards the safety of the kitten. There are some bad people out there that take free adoption critters for food for attack dogs or recreationally hurt animals. I really really wish I could do more than make those suggestions, all of my kitties are indoor cats, they are all well kept (I just lost my oldest at 24yrs old this december). I really hope she finds a good home!

I steer clear, currently I take my PC back and forth from my desk to the livingroom. I've tried some games that use a controller for RTS stuff, but it's a nightmare. As for FPS's I just use an XBOX 360 controller, for games like the Mass Effect trilogy there is a really good mod for what is basically native XBOX 360 controller support. Lately I've been looking on steam for "partial" or "full" controller support titles. Couch RTS is a really bad idea in my experience though.

I currently have a Core i5-3470 @ 3.2GHz and I'm not crazy wealthy, so I wanted to see if anyone has an older computer with an i7 that fits an LGA1155 socket. I was looking at the Intel Core i7-2600K @ 3.4GHz, it's on Amazon for ~$300, I can find it on eBay at around $100, but I wanted to see if anyone in this community would potentially be able to make a deal with me. I have a lot of XBOX 360 games, PS2 games, some USB to PS1/2/N64/GameCube adapters. Or even if you're just generous to offer me a better price than what I've been able to find online, I'd greatly appreciate it. I've done some of the art uploads here, so maybe I could create some artwork for your launchbox library? I'm ok at photoshop (still learning), I've gotten really good at GIMP, and I've also done a lot of work in Blender 3D, so maybe I could do a 3D model for you? Anyway, I just wanted to reach out and see what my luck would be like. Not really expecting anything, but it would be fantastic otherwise. I wouldn't be able to buy anything until next month anyway. I also have a Brookstone Giftcard for $25, and a Newegg Giftcard for $10. If any of those would be of interest to you. I have some other things (Books, DVDs, Pop Vinyl figures, Dorbz) that you might like?

Ok, so I added "Fibbage XL" to the Games DB for LaunchBox. But I accidently submitted a clear logo that I hadn't finished touching up (removing the background from it). But I don't know how to remove the image submission, or submit the replacement. I've attached the correct one here, if anyone knows how to change it. I'd appreciate it.

Good to know, I have a low powered laptop I can fool around with and see how well that works. Thank you for the advice on that one. I'm using a Roku 3 for Plex streaming right now, but it transcodes everything to DD, so it's compressed audio and no 7.1 support. But it works, I've planning an HTPC to resolve the audio issue and prevent needing to lug my PC back and forth from the living room for emulation and PC games, I was trying to be optimistic about potentially being able to stream 7.1 audio from plex to a Steam Link. But that does have me wondering if the Steam Link supports multichannel audio for gaming as well.

So, through Monday, the steam link is 60% off. I wanted to know if anyone here has used one with BigBox remotely, and if you can use an XBOX 360 controller with it. Is steam link worthwhile? I was very hesitant about it for $50, but I'm a little tempted at $20. EDIT Can I use Plex Media Player on Steam Link? To remotely stream DTS HDMA and Dolby TrueHD sound? EDIT 2 and since I'm thinking about this more and more. I was wondering if TriDef Ignition and NVIDIA 3DTV Play could send the signals out to the Steam Link to play games in stereo3D on my TV in the livingroom.

I had previously made a placeholder blank artwork, but after a while I decided that having something that looked more or less like the rest of your library would look better than just a grey rectangle. So I took some time put together a bunch of different "blank" box art. Basically, this is just for items in BigBox that don't have box art. I did Generic, PC, Steam/PC, SNES, NES, SEGA Genesis, PS1, and PS2. Feel free to use the the generic poster one to add additional consoles to it. This may not be helpful to most, but it might make some people's libraries a little prettier. So hopefully this is helpful to someone out there :-)
