  1. So, I recently purchased Doom II on GOG, and something I had forgotten since childhood is that the controls aren't what I'm used to. I found this script LAlt::return n::LAlt #If GetKeyState("LAlt","P") w::Up a::Left s::Down d::Right however I can't find a place to add it as an autohotkey script in Launchbox. My goal is to use "W" for forward "S" as down, "A" as strafe left, & "D" as strafe right. I believe "Alt + left/right" are the strafes by default, up/down directional buttons move you forward and back. The mouse I'd like to keep the same, I'm just finding it impossible to play without WASD movement, and strafing is too much work to commit to muscle memory. Anyway, I was just wondering if this was possible. Doom II does launch with DOSBOX, but it's all pre-configured via GOG.
  2. @Rincewind I was wondering, in the TV view where the games are bellow it, would it be possible (in another release), to have the selected game centered? Might just be me, but if it's easy to do, I think I'd prefer that over the selection boarder moving from left to right on its own. Or maybe as a separate view? Once I get some better cooling in my computer, I'm going to mess around in visual studio myself and see what fun thing I might be able to create, but for now, I was just curious to see if that was a thing that could easily be done or not.
  3. It may not be organized the best, but this is where I put all of the assets. Some concepts and ditched ideas are in there too. https://www.freesound.org/ is typically where I go for sound FX, and a lot of the time I'll get royalty free music from YouTube's creator studio. I also tend to use Blender 3D for most of my video asset renders, and I use Vegas for video editing (although, I think I used Corel for the BigBox stuff). I use Audacity for audio edits, and GIMP for image edits. My idea was to make an intro that would be short and used as a startup animation, something that would make an HTPC feel more like a game console when you turn on your PC. I went through a few different ideas and finally settled on this one, because I thought it looked cool. Anyway here are all of my intro video assets, feel free to mess around with them and let me know what you come up with :-)
  4. Thank you. Not 100% from scratch, I started with a template from AfterFX to render the actual video bit. Then I used a video editor to edit the output. I did all of the soundfx myself, using a recording of radio tuning, a piano, and then I took one of the startup sounds from BigBox "Initializing BigBox". I had to speed up and slow down different parts of the output render from AfterFX, and added some filters to parts to make some of the neon light stuff "pop" a little more. And I added a bit of a blurred out effect to the logo towards the end, to make it feel a little bit more like it was fading into the the BigBox theme (fade to black didn't look right). Oh, I guess I also had to edit the AfterFX template too, had to make some modifications to the way it rendered the logo, which was a bit lame because it takes a long time to render and I ended up having to do it 3 times, but I think it was worth it in the end. The hand was part of the initial template, and I no longer have AfterFX (used a trial), so can't really comment on how it might look without the hand unfortunatley.
  5. I'll remember to check that out later today, I'm looking forward to that That's so odd, I wonder why VLC behaves that way. I also gave you a shoutout on facebook. I still think your theme is super awesome! Thank you @Rincewind and thank you @bbweiners for getting the theme videos fixed. I think I might be back to using this theme as my primary one
  6. @Rincewind I went ahead and did a short video showing all of the different views with both VLC and WMP. Also, you're absolutely right, after I re-imaged my computer, I forgot to install all of my special fonts. Fixed it now though.
  7. @bbweiners and I broke some of the other views... I'm remoting into the computer right now, I think it would be best to tinker with this at home. The videos that take up the whole screen are broken now. But all the TV ones are perfect (minus the aspect ratio thing). EDIT I actually broke the TV bit a little as well. It looks like all of the video is moved up a bit, even with 4:3 video, so the very top is cropped out, and the bottom doesn't start until a bit above the bottom of the TV I really should do this at home making these changes and testing it is really slow with the lag between home and work.
  8. Do you know which files in particular need to be changed, I just went into the \views folder and there are 29 .xaml files... EDIT I went through them all, and the only ones with <!-- VIDEO BACKGROUND --> <Viewbox Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="4" Grid.ColumnSpan="7" Grid.RowSpan="8" Stretch="UniformToFill" > <transitions:TransitionPresenter TransitionSelector="{Binding ImageVideoTransitionSelector}" Content="{Binding ImageVideoView}" IsContentVideo="true"/> </Viewbox> are BoxesGamesView.xaml CoverFlowWithDetailsGamesView.xaml TextGamesView.xaml that I was able to find anyway. The files should be in LaunchBox\Themes\Rincewind\Views EDIT 2 That seems to work almost perfectly, it fits from left to right perfectly, but it will show black bars on the top and bottom of the screen for wide-screen videos. Not a big deal by any means (since I'm using gameplay footage and most of my retro games are 4:3 anyway), but my PC library is pretty much all 16:9 and I think I'd rather have the preview cropped. Very minor gripe though, considering I can actually see the gameplay now :-) Great job @bbweiners!
  9. I finally got it all set up, and I LOVE it! I'm so glad I found out about this.
  10. Yeah, I started playing around with it earlier today. Trying to get used to it again atm.
  11. I'm actually in the same boat, I tinker far more than I game. Kind of sad really, I've actually just started making time to game, and started a let's play/live stream channel on YouTube just to make it an obligation to myself to relax and have fun and enjoy all of my hard work.
  12. Yeah, I don't do it often, but sometimes it gets slow and I can't resist. I LOVE working on creative projects and modding the hell out of the visuals in an interface. I remember when PHT was a thing I would tinker with themes all day, until I got everything looking just right. I loved the Night theme, but the new version on openpht doesn't seem to look right. Though, to be fair, I've only tinkered with openpht for a couple hours. But yeah, I can get a little obsessive about it. I actually installed my entire steam library (about 120ish games) just so I could map it all to LB and make sure that all of my custom art work (using the Translucent steam .psd that's posted in the downloads section). I actually worked really hard to find all ESRB covers (making them when I can), instead of the PEGI rating system, and that was explicitly because ESRB is my local rating system, and I think it's nice to have it all look uniform. I get creative when a cover doesn't exist for a game
  13. @JaysArcade gotcha, ok, that would be a nice feature, I totally see what you mean now. My bad yeah, I didn't see your most recent post until after I did mysecond edit. Okay, so I think I understand. I think a submenu for apps as a "platform" is probably a decent compromise, but a toggle for specific "games" to launch directly, instead of an "all or nothing" solution would be better for that. But I do think it would be awesome to have the ability to launch an app directly from the main platform wheel in BB.
  14. I went ahead and added a vote to it. But honestly, I think you can basically already set this up in BigBox. You just need to do all of the artwork custom, and setup a new "platform" called "apps" or something. I don't know if it'll do the "modern" "metro" Windows 10 apps (I don't think they have executable binaries). I'll work on something tonight, and if I find a good way to launch HTPC friendly apps from BigBox, I'll do a post in downloads with the artwork I put together, and put together a tutorial on YouTube sometime this week. I think that doing this on a more automated level in LB/BB, would require a database of metadata for common Windows programs/apps. I'm not aware of one off the top of my head, but if there is one, I'm sure a plug-in could be made to import that metadata and streamline the process. EDIT: Actually this article goes into how to create a shortcut for the "metro"/"Modern" apps, so you could just add them in LB like you would a PC game using a shortcut on the desktop. Again, I'll go ahead and toy with this, and see if there is a way I can export the metadata from LB for easy replication on other's setups. The only potential problem I would see is not having remote control support on the Windows 10 Netflix app (or potentially other apps as well). I tried a "remote control" mod for the Netflix app once, but it was terrible, and the button mapping was inconsistent in some menus, it basically locked your mouse pointer in a grid, which didn't always line up with what you wanted to do. I think you can launch Steam Big Screen from LB already, but I'll need to doublecheck, although, I just create desktop shortcuts for steam games, then add the shortcut to LB, and then it launches from BB fine. *EDIT 2:* I got impatient and remoted into my tester HTPC from work. I was able to install Netflix and add it to an "Apps" platform I created. Right now I have Netflix, Plex Media Player, and Windows Explorer(just pointed to C:\Windows\Explorer.exe). Being able to launch an explorer window from BB could be beneficial I think, so that you can access files and do stuff like that. If your LB/BB is setup on an HTPC, you could probably use a Logitech Dinovo or a Lenovo N5902 to navigate with, to do simple things like install a new game on steam or whatever.
  15. I'm not too familiar with RocketLauncher, I thought it was more of a LB/BB alternative. But I've also seen some tutorials about using LB with RL symbiotically. Does launching via RocketLauncher give you the ability to launch with an overlay?
  16. I actually didn't know there was a dolphin core for RetroArch. I just meant the standalone Dolphin emulator.
  17. So I've been doing a lot of fooling around in Retroarch lately, and I've finally been able to figure out how bezels work (for platforms and individual games), along with auto save states for some games I don't have time to do in one play through (Sonic on Genesis for example). I'm really loving that I can have overlays for 4:3 games on my 16:9 monitor. I have Dolphin configured per game, so some games are 4:3 while others are 16:9, all depending on how the extra space gets drawn (or doesn't in some cases). I wanted to see if anyone knew of a way to configure overlays in Dolphin. For the life of me, I can't figure it out. So any help would be fantastic.
  18. @Styphelus I've been messing around with exporting and I can get it into a PSD format, but when you open it up in PhotoShop, it takes all of the layer group contents and makes them into 1 layer, so you completely use all of the editability I put in there. So you can toggle face buttons on/off, or change the dpad style, but you can't actually edit the text or anything like that. I'm doing some more research to see if I can preserve the ability to edit it, but for now, I have to recommend downloading GIMP, it's free (kind of an open source knock off of PS), so it should be able to work. If you find a way to get it imported into PhotoShop properly, please PM me and I'll update the file for download with the PSD files and include the tutorial on how to change the format as well.
  19. I'll see what I can do. I've been using GIMP, but I think I can export it to PSD in GIMP. I'll upload another update later today.
  20. Very interesting. Is there a way to configure it to launch Plex Media Player for playback? Or have it sync the content with your Plex media server? Or would this just allow you to use BigBox as a front end for TV shows outside of a traditional media server?
  21. Controller Mapping View File So, there wasn't an actual category for this, so I put it here because I think it best suits what I'm doing. So, there is a theme that I love, and it utilizes the ability to set an individual controller graphic per game, so to help with this, I thought it would be nice to have a template. Right now I only have PS1 and PS2 controllers in there but I'll update periodically to include more controllers. I might even fill some out with in-game controls. Anyway, I think I saw somewhere that this might be implemented as a feature in a future LB build, but that might not be the case, regardless, I know that specific themes can take advantage of this, so for anyone using those themes, I hope this helps make your library look a bit cooler and more helpful Submitter Pyrometheous Submitted 05/31/2017 Category Game Media Packs

  23. Well, because I love this theme so much. I put together this little clip demoing it. It's a sorta rough theater HTPC setup. 92" screen via projector on a wall. A little big of gameplay, and it's basically just practicing on Vegas Fastcut. I think it turned out pretty good.
  24. Yeah, you can download it here. It really is an awesome theme :-) Also here are my controller graphics, they aren't all perfect, but I've done the best with what I found and was able to alter at my own skill level. Controllers.zip When you make the controller for each game, you'll need to put them within their platform folder. The "primary" controller you would just name it the name of the platform, for the games, just make sure they're in the platform folder, but have the same name that the game shows up as in LB. Due to file name restrictions, I renamed all of my games that had ":" in them and renamed them to be " -" instead. Same goes for the company logos. Company Logos.zip And these are the company logos that I added to my Theme folder.
