AstroBob
Hey Everyone! Some of you eagle-eyed users might have noticed something new in the latest LaunchBox beta (13.16)āour Game Discovery Center now taps into special online lists curated by the LaunchBox team, bringing you fresh and seasonal game recommendations! Once 13.16 rolls out, over time you can expect to see new and exciting game lists in the Game Discovery Center, and we're even considering opening this up to the community in the future. But in the meantime, to kick things off we want to create a special playlist curated by YOU, the community! We will build a master playlist out of everyone's answers and have it appear inside the Game Discovery Center! All you have to answer is the following the following question: What are your top 5 favorite games of all time? Thereās no right or wrong answer hereā it could be games that you think have the best gameplay, were the most impactful, or simply hold a special nostalgic place in your heart. Our goal is to highlight the communityās favorite picks so that others can discover them too. To get started, here are my top picks, covering each of my favorite genres: Ā Ā Ā ā¢Ā Ā Ā Sonic Adventure 2 Battle Ā Ā Ā ā¢Ā Ā Ā Street Fighter IV Ā Ā Ā ā¢Ā Ā Ā Mario Power Tennis Ā Ā Ā ā¢Ā Ā Ā SSX3 Ā Ā Ā ā¢Ā Ā Ā Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair Each of these games is instantly re-playable for me. Whether itās starting a new save file on Sonic Adventure 2 Battle or Yooka-Laylee, aiming for those elusive platinum medals in SSX3 (still chasing that goal!), or reliving the great memories I had playing Street Fighter IV and Mario Power Tennis with friends, these games always bring me back for more. So, what are your top 5? Feel free to share your reasons too! Once we gather enough contributions, weāll add them to the Game Discovery Center and update this post so you can keep an eye out for it. Canāt wait to see your picks! PD:Ā Initially, I played it on PS2 withĀ controller and put many hours into itĀ š Final Fantasy X (PS2):Ā The game that changed my way of understanding the video games (and the first one that made me shed some tears)Ā š The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch):Ā The game I always end up coming back toĀ ā¤ļø Ā
Kefka2b
Really cool topics you are brining to this community! My top 5 (choice is really hard though so I went quick without thinking too much about it): - Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Master System): The first game I ever played, probably was like 5 or 6, my big bro got a Master System and this game was integrated within the console, the rest is history (remember noting down the henchmen's rock paper scissors combinations, my first cheats!), never actually finished it as it was hard and unfair as fuck like most games back then, until I could rewind and save in Retroarch. - Sonic 3 & Knuckles (MegaDrive): Revolutionary combining of 2 MegaDrive cartridges to make a big awesome game (I think it was supposed to be a single game in the first place, but it was too massive for a single cartridge or something like that), ability to save games, and of course when obtaining all the emeralds from both games, transforming into hyper Sonic... What a great time that was. - Final Fantasy VII (PSX): What can I say, my first experience of RPGs and never went back, played it a billion times, still got my PSX memory card with the save that's beaten it all ( golden chocobo, knights of the round, ruby and emerald weapons defeated etc...), it was 3 blocks out of 15 if memory serves me well (no pun intended), but too valuable to delete. Just started another playthrough with the 7th heaven mods on pc, it's magnificent. - Dark Souls (PS3): A game that will ruin the video game experience for me somehow, if it wasn't a challenge like a souls games then it was not a good game to me, I would always compare everything to DS. I could have put Bloodborne instead as it's probably the best souls game for me, but DS was my first one. The level design was also absolutely amazing, first time I used wikis and communities for games as it was a bit of a crazy mess to understand the mechanics, and actually build a character that could have a chance. - Horizon Zero Dawn (PS4): Never thought I would like playing a female character so much, never bothered getting trophies that often for games in general but this game made me want to achieve the platinum trophy and I did it (my only one so far). Just amazing story, graphics, gameplay, world exploration, and crazy combat against colossal machines. I could just put the controller down and admire the scenery, never felt so sucked into a game. The sequel was disappointing as it didn't really bring innovative concepts, not surprising, considering how complete and ground breaking, this masterpiece already was. - Bonus (sorry), Dark Age of Camelot (PC): Couldn't not include this one as I spent way too much time of my youth on it, and my best friends also, for me the only MMORPG that ever managed to capture my console gamer attention, I didn't have a PC back then and only played in Internet CafƩs, yes it was a huge budget. Unforgiving game, no fluff, crazy exp grinding, but of course a realm Vs realm PvP system which was absolutely amazing with fort and relic raids, with hundreds of players fighting, it was revolutionary. There was a real sense of belonging to your realm, as you could only create characters on 1 realm per server. The time investment to progress on a character was so huge that rerolling wasn't really a thing and you will stick to it, Midgard powaaaaaaa, never got to know Albion or Hibernia during at least the first 2 years of playing this game. Acethor
I'm at work and I spent way longer on this than I expected lol. Top 5 of all time is too hard, I would prefer to choose the top 5 by Genre instead. But okay, if you twisted my arm about it then I'd say : Left 4 Dead 2Ā Half-Life 2 + Episodes 1/2 Warcraft 3 + Frozen Throne Expansion Diablo 2 + LOD Starcraft + Brood War Yes yes I am a bit biased towards classic Valve and BlizzardĀ š
