  1. If this works perfectly, then MAME is recognizing it. Can you show a literal example? As in the full path and file name plus extension. For Apple IIe floppies, MAME supports extensions: mfi, dfi, dsk, do, po, rti, edd, woz, nib For cassettes it's .wav Honestly, you're creating more work than necessary by not having an actual MAME softlist ROM set. You know. .zip files. But according to your "works perfectly file" statement, you CAN make it work with what you have. You NEED to have the afore mention check boxes un-checked in the emulator settings so that it will pass "{path_to_my_disk_image_binary}" at the end of the command line. Do you mean like, double click a game, and have LB simply just open MAME. And then you navigate to Apple IIe, and then select a game from there? aka: have the LaunchBox frontend open the MAME frontend. You can always Right-Click a game and select Open MAME (assuming it's the default emulator for that Platform) An emulators executable name is simply a name, by any other name.
  2. Scratch that new emulator idea above. Just ran some tests.. As stated in your other post about this, put all your Atari 2600 .bin files into the folder "R:\atari2600\a2600\" R:\atari2600\a2600\adventure.bin R:\atari2600\a2600\pitfall.bin You don't need to add a2600 to the rompath. Since your command line says to 'go into Atari 2600 mode', MAME knows to look for a subfolder called a2600 within your rompath's you have listed. Don't need to change any of your existing MAME setting in LaunchBox. Just add the subfolder, move the .bin files into it, start LB and play Pitfall (and Adventure).
  3. Since your a2600 games are not in MAME's traditional zip format, you need to tell MAME the full path to the bin. Just like your command line above, that worked. Since you are also using MAME for Arcade machines, most likely your MAME emulator settings in LaunchBox have these 2 boxes checked. So, with your Default Custom Command-Line Parameters you have set for "Atari 2600", LB will send the command mame a2600 -cart -skip_gameingo -nowindow pitfall With this, MAME will go into Atari 2600 Cart mode (for lack of better phrasing), bypass the game info window, start fullscreen, and look inside your rompath folder(s) for pitfall.zip. Since (at least for your a2600 roms) you don't have MAME's softlist romset (the ones that are in zip format), I recommend you create a new emulator in LaunchBox. Use the same executable ( ) but give it a different name (of course) like MAME_with_quotes or whatever. You can have the same Default Command-Line Parameters (it doesn't matter anyway), but un-check both those boxes. Then in the Associated Platforms section, Add Atari 2600 and its Default Custonm Command-Line Parameters ( a2600 -cart -skip_gameingo -nowindow ). This will now send mame a2600 -cart -skip_gameingo -nowindow "R:\atari2600\pitfall.bin"
  4. Looks like you didn't grab the MAME 0.246 Software List ROMs set. Because it should have had a folder called a2600. And in that folder should have been a bunch of zip files. Including adventur.zip. Are all the a2600 roms unzipped? If you have still the original zips, put them in this folder: R:\atari2600\a2600\ So Adventure will be like so... R:\atari2600\a2600\adventur.zip You don't need to add "a2600" to the rompath. THEN try your command "mame a2600 adventur" If you don't have the zips (for some odd reason), instead of the above folder structure, simply try the command "mame a2600 adventure.bin". Not sure if that'll work. If it doesn't, try the full path. "mame a2600 R:\atari2600\adventure.bin" That I know will work. But it's MUCH easier to have the zips in their original folder (a2600 in this case).
  5. Appears I've covered this before. ๐Ÿ˜Š This reiterates what I stated above, but also links to a viable 'work-around' when using the Steam ID to launch a game.
  6. Never! You can put them anywhere you want. But for ease of explaining and to get you up-and-running, place the contents of your downloaded torrent folder into your ../MAME/roms/ folder. The Full Set (MAME 0.246 ROMs) contains a ton of zip files. Place all the zip files into /roms/. (if you have the Non-Merged set, there'll be about 39,886 zip files) Should look something like: The softlist Set (MAME 0.246 Software List ROMs) contains a bunch of folders. Place all the folders into /roms/. (if you have the Split set, there'll be about 605 folders) Should look something like: If you have the Full Sets, they are. If not, then they are an incomplete 'full set'. What set type do you have? Merged, Non-Merged or Split. If you got the ones I mentioned and they came from pleasuredome's github site, then the files are there. If when downloading, you unchecked a bunch of the files (to possibly speed things along), that could cause an issue. What specifically are you attempting to run (console/computer and game_rom) and what file(s) is it saying you're missing? Knowing that can help point you to where it's supposed to be, within you Full Sets.
  7. Nothing (in this case) should have changed since the latest update. When you launch a Steam game, it actually starts the Steam Launcher which then launches the actual game. LaunchBox 'sees' the Launcher as "the game". Then after the Launcher starts the game, it closes (and the game continues). Now that the Launcher (aka "the game") is closed, LB executes the Run After Main Application app. Or at least it's supposed to execute the Run After... at that point. From the sounds of it, it's not even doing that (if it's still running when you do actually quit the game). This all assumes you're [actual] game is being launched using the Steam ID (vs. pointing to a 'game_name.exe')
  8. If you are intent on using MAME for emulating Consoles and Computers [which is fine...] (i.e. Atari 5200 and Apple IIe) vs. other emulators as recommended above, ALL the files needed to do so are available in: MAME 0.246 ROMs (merged) [or MAME 0.246 ROMs (non-merged)] MAME 0.246 Software List ROMs (merged) [or MAME 0.246 Software List ROMs (split)] And of course you will need the MAME 0.246 executable. Note: mame64.exe is now simply mame.exe If you have these 2 Full Sets, there's no need for the two you show. (Hint: scroll down just a little further on that site to see the Full Sets) When you manually collect the required files from over the internet and old collections, you run the risk of obtaining mismatched files or incomplete zip files. That is, you might end up with 1 file for MAME v0.179, another for v0.201 and one for 0.246. Or possibly the zip file is from a split set for a clone, missing needed files that are in the parent zip. The point here is, get the 2 Full Sets for the same version and be done looking for files. Once you have those 2 Full Sets, it's a matter of putting them in a good folder location in which MAME can find and setting the proper command-line parameters. Then of course the most important part, playing games.
  9. MAME hasn't really changed much except you don't have to use mess.exe for software lists. You do need to still make sure your romset, be it softlists or the regular arcade machines set, and the MAME emulator are the same version. The softlist sets only contain the 'game' ROMs. You still need the appropriate BIOS and support files that can are found in the arcade fullset. If you have both of these and your folders are setup correctly, if you're getting "file missing" errors, then most likely you have mismatched romsets and executable. Apple's not the easiest softlist to be starting with, but here's a really good writeup that should help get you going. It's for the IIGS. But hey, close enough. I believe this should also help with your issue of using 1 emulator with various platforms requiring various command-line parameters.
  10. The command line you used (and that worked) when troubleshooting, that pointed to a .zip (vs the contents of a zip) is what gave it away.
  11. This happens after you've clicked one of the games? Configure stays grey-out for me too. But I don't know what it would do if it wasn't. lol Never paid attention to it. But Play shouldn't be (after you've clicked one of the games). If you click a game, and Play is greyed out, then you most likely don't have a ROM File associated with it. Click Edit and look under Launching to verify.
  12. Tools, Options, Integrations, EmuMovies. Delete everything under User ID: and Password: and click OK.
  13. If your MAME fullset v0.246 ROMS are located in the "..\LaunchBox\Games\MAME_Roms\" folder, and if you can start standalone MAME, select a game and run it without issues, then you've already setup the rompath in MAME. Either by editing mame.ini, or setting it up through MAMEs configuration menu. So far so good? If in LaunchBox you edit, say, 1942, in the Launching section under ROM File, it should look like (Note: shown is a relative path. Which it will be if it's on the same Drive: letter as LaunchBox. When supplied through %romlocation%, it will be an "absolute\path\in\quotes".) I'm curious where your MAME ROMs are actually located (vs an example folder) and how that compares with what's shown under one of your games' ROM File.
  14. Though this [link below] talks about win11, the same goes for win10 regarding installing the "3.1 desktop runtime (x64)". At least for getting LaunchBox to work [if there's (rare) issues using the LaunchBox installer]. As for Retroarch having problems, it usually simply installs and plays (with possibly some re-configuration and core updates). But I'm not sure which specific program your Win10 machine is having problems with. Originally it sounded like Retroarch. Then it sounded like the LaunchBox plugin posted above. Now with the talk of Runtimes, it sounds like LaunchBox. So not sure how to help. Regarding your i5 system, the only potential issue may be the onboard graphics. And that might not even be an issue at all.?.?. My Arcade Cabinet has an even older i5-2550k 3.4 GHz, with 8Gig RAM as well. But also has a GTX960 4gig video card. It seems to run LaunchBox/BigBox and all emulators I've thrown at it (so far) without issues. Well, "without issues" that couldn't be resolved. If Linux is a fix that suits your needs, more power to ya. I've always been intrigued by it and have wanted to 'see what it's all about'. But that 'power' is not within me. lol
  15. The plugin not loading would have nothing to do with Windows. It's a LaunchBox plugin. It would be best to ask about it on the plugin page itself (so as to not muddle up this thread). Also give some details. Like it's not showing in the Tools Menu. Or, it is, but when you click it, nothing happens. And be sure to re-read the Using the plugin section 1st. Just in case something was overlooked.
  16. I suppose I could. But I doubt anyone would want custom "Mountain Dew" green control panels. lol It most likely has the same amount of missing panels, and/or a lot will just show the button numbers (1 through 6) vs the actual action ("Fire", "Jump" etc.).
  17. I'd say move the button labels off the buttons. Move the game title and crop off the excess background (top, bottom and sides). (My cab's panel is green, hence the green here) To batch crop the images, I used ffmpeg and a batch file. I had CPW output the images as 1024 X 768. Then used this in a batch file md cropped for %%i in (*.png) do ffmpeg -y -i "%%~ni.png" -vf crop=iw-36:ih-280:18:55 "./cropped/%%~ni.png" Place the batch file in the same folder as the images. This creates the folder "cropped" then places the cropped images in that folder. The output images, using this, become 988 X 488. If you decide to try this, copy a just couple of your images to a temp folder and test 1st.
  18. Platforms.xml They'll be under the PlatformFolder element(s).
  19. This probably doesn't help any for RetroArch, but in stand-alone MAME, using Art of Fighting (aof.zip) as an example ROM, to run the MVS version, the command is "mame.exe neogeo aof". And for the AES version, using the same ROM, it's "mame.exe aes aof".
  20. Does the version you're using even accept command-line parameters? Do they have a support forum? You may be able to: Open the Windows Command Prompt and navigate to where the exe is located, and enter in something along the lines of "gens.exe -help" or "gens.exe --help"
  21. Does it do anything (the same thing?) if your remove all the Custom Command-Line Parameters and un-check all the boxes? So the Sample Command would look like: gens.exe "FULL\PATH\TO\ROM\FILE"
  22. bbh_160.zip won't do you much good as that ROM is for Stern's pinball machine. Use bbh.zip instead At least in a non-merged MAME full-set, all 4 games will have a zip file even though (other than COTW) they're CHD only. For the games that are missing, you could click the plus ( + ) sign in the lower right corner of LaunchBox, and manually add them. In the Launching section, have it point to your MAME ROMs folder and then add to the path bbh2sp.zip (even though the file doesn't (or may not) actually exist). LB will still send "bbh2sp" to MAME, and MAME will know what to do. Adding a new text file to your ROMs folder that is renamed to the "short_name" .zip as @neil9000 suggested will work too. i.e. "bbh.zip", "bbhsc.zip" and "bbh2sp.zip" Then you can just drag-and-drop those files onto to LaunchBox to import them.
  23. Since I donโ€™t use GameBase myself. I only know how to get the database to Import into LaunchBox., if you would like to verify these for me, that would be great. You can use the Alternative method mentioned above: The music files that you place in the /Music/appropriate_platform/ folder can be named either the-exact-same as the games Title, or the games ROM_file_name. Again, no need to edit the game(s) and point to the music file. If they are named correctly when putting them in the proper Music subfolder, LaunchBox will automatically add the file path to the Game Music Path. I have 5 (random) GB_database files that I used for testing. (I don't have ANY of the ROMs, images, SID files, etc.. Just the .mdb file(s) itself.) The problem with your request is that all 5 have different file types for the <SidFilename/>. And only 1 pointed to SID-files. Vic20_v03 none SuperNESBase .rsn GBC_v17 .sid Amiga 2.3 .zip Amstrad CPC .ym It would be nice to find out if the other file types (aside from .zip) will work. It the file type is invalid or the file itself is corrupt (or not a music file at all), LaunchBox will crash. And that's not good.
