  1. That might be intended. It see's the alternate names but changes it to the facing name on the Database, which is supposed to be NTSC first and foremost. @Vlansix might have to verify that, because I'm not sure.
  2. Named after the rom should work too, or it used to. Jason could have changed that.
  3. If it doesn't work a second time, open up your \..\LaunchBox\Updates folder, and install the latest release version on top of your current install.
  4. If you restart LaunchBox and try the import again, does it come back? Are you on the latest Beta or Official release? Edit: Either way, I am passing on the error code to the team.
  5. Well, there's a reason why some of those features seem put together with duct tape, then break the second a new version is released: it's because it's extremely hard to do. I do applaud them trying to do it, but it creates a ton of extra issues. Despite what the RL people might say, there has never been an out cry for those features in LB. Assuming that someone wants them, but someone doesn't want to use RL or wants to switch, there's never been a ton of support for it from the people, and that's how things primarily change. I could be wrong, but there isn't a ticket with a high vote count either. So at a certain point, whats fought over is a lot of pride and bravado.
  6. I think it's best to put your LB install, games and emulators all on their own drive. It's the same effect as if the games and emulators are in the LB folder, which is to say things will use a relative path. They just need to be on the same drive, so by extension in the folder counts. This way things stay portable if the drive letter changes or computer changes. You can't change the actual paths without needing to re-import or edit the XML, but still. Yea, an SSD will provide some benefit, but not a whole lot. All of my stuff is on an 8TB SATA3 5400RPM drive and it all runs fantastically. The space LB takes up depends on the size of your library and media. I know mine is close to 150GB before any games or emulators.
  7. It'll be available in the official release when that comes around, but yea it's currently beta only. You shouldn't run in to any issues, but if you're worried creating a backup of your LB install, just to be safe, isn't a bad idea. You really only need to back up the data and not the media, but you never know.
  8. Even when we do, people still ignore it though.
  9. Actually, I'd like to add this to the list too: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/80342 I'm mostly getting it for the 1st game, but add in the second game for $1 more? It's an RPG series that has a sort of cult following that was re-released on Steam. Otherwise, the rest of my wishlist is depressing: http://steamcommunity.com/id/SentaiBrad/wishlist
  10. I had 456 games from my wishlist on sale out of 559 games.
  11. As long as you're on the LaunchBox Beta, LB should read the alternate names now. The changes you made will still first need to be approved, then they go live on the Database at around Midnight PST on the day they were approved. Your metadata file needs updating as well for any new additions made to the database. Once the changes are made on the Database, the update then gets pushed to everyone. When you edit a game and click "Search", if a Metadata update is available, it will tell you and you'll nee to press yes to update it.

So I just checked, and then Derek and Zombeaver pointed it out: Under additional applications you can now add something like a game, and assign it a different emulator. So you could add the alternate versions of those games to a single entry, and assign them a different emulator each. However, this would be a fully manual process. You could then hide the other entries and it's still achieving the same effect. It would be just as many steps otherwise, but this is a new check box for Additional Applications. Otherwise, it's not going to really improve performance any, and I think it's going to add confusion, but the option is there right now (at least in Beta), if you want to do this.
  13. Add this to the literal pile of reasons to not use RL. Seriously, 2 features are not worth that amount of trouble. X_X

letting you know that the game is also available for other platforms would be nice, but there are a shocking amount of games with the same name that are completely unrelated, so my fear is that it would show you the wrong games constantly. It would also require then names to not deviate. That would however be a potentially good feature for the Database @Vlansix, being able to have someone manually say "this game is also on this platform here", but hiding games from one platform because the game also exists in another would be very bad design in my opinion. If you're looking at all platforms, I could see why that might be appealing, but if you don't know that a game is on another platform then you'd never know with them merged. If you're looking at a single platform, the other platforms are not loaded and it doesn't effect performance. It can if you're looking at All platforms, sure, but there is always more that can be done. Call me crazy, but that doesn't sound like good design.
  15. Wait, sym linking is the solution here? Seriously... that's actually ridiculous.
  16. No it's not, you're a liar, it's not time for steam sale, steam sales don't exist, they never existed, it's all a lie man, nope, no way in hell. Aka, I'm so frikin broke and there are too many damn games!

I'm really confused. If the game is on a different platform, then they should never be combined with a game with the same name on a different platform...? Maybe someone else can help me understand or you can rewrite the idea, but I am really confused.
  18. Those sound like playlists, not platforms. If you go to Tools -> Manage Platforms, and delete a platform from here, well the games will be orphaned unless you let LB also remove the game, but that should remove the platform from being in the LaunchBox file structure at all (unless there is media for it). It should remove the XML or references to it. If you remove the game, and a platform has 0 games, it also wont show up at all. If those are playlists, then you'll need to go to the playlist section and deal with them. In the left bar, on the top, is a drop down menu. Click that, then playlists. You can right click playlists for some options or right click the empty space to bring up the playlists menu. From that drop down on the left of LB, you can also select Platform Categories. That's how I have mine set, so everything is under Consoles, Handhelds, Computers or Playlists. You need to edit a playlist and tell it what platform category to be in if you go that route,.
  19. This is a rather complicated issue, and I think it mostly comes down to emulators doing different things, and how Windows assigns ID's to plugged in devices. I think the ideal situation is to never unplug them unfortunately, which is a fairly absurd thing to ask in a lot of cases. Plugging them in to the same port each time might solve it, changing to Input Mapper MAY help the problem as well, but I am honestly at a loss. Each emulator does something slightly different or completely different than the others, in conjunction with Windows not having the same behavior, and them all mingling together. If someone knows of a solution, then by all means, but I have seen countless threads where there are dumb issues with multiple controllers.
  20. I've done the same damn thing a ton of times, so no worries.
  21. If you converted to PBP, then it should happen automatically, that's part of the point with PBP's. I've heard people tell me differently recently, but that was part of the reason I made that tutorial in the first place.
  22. There have been no shortage of these threads to be quite honest. A few searches will give you a ton of information. At a certain point, Myself and the other mods are just repeating ourselves.
  23. You'll also find almost... I want to say a dozen threads on this topic as well. This gets asked quite a lot.
  24. Beetle isn't a made up name. It is a code name, or an alt name for Mednafen, but I don't know why they chose to switch to it either. (sorry, getting out late responses).
