if you rename a platform then you would also have to edit the items pertaining to it in the image manual music and video folders if you rename a platform it basically just makes a new folder with those games in it and it will create the media folders for the new platform but all of the old media stay in folders named for the original name you imported it to. When you import you can name a platform what ever you want and have it scrape as the proper name that LB is looking for this way you will get the media for say Nintendo Entertainment System but you can use the name NES when you import.
Arcade is one that you have to add on your own once you add it in the Associated Platform column then the core column will be a drop down menu as long as you have the core downloaded through Retroarch then it should show up as an option in the drop down list.
what happens if you put brackets around the info and use use folder names? Does it not make any allowances for the brackets and it will just name it exactly?
you have to have the command line for the system and the media type as a platform in MAME associated platform tab here is an image that shows a bunch of examples
If you moved it to a drive with a different letter name you can easily right click your little windows symbol in the bottom left corner and go to disk management and there you can edit drives.
what it comes down too is what type of file is inside of the zip that is in the softwarlist some have .bin files or some other such extension and if the emulator supports the extension inside all is good if not than it won't work
The only way really to insure the paths to things like your emulators is correct is to move LB to a drive with the same letter as it previously had, However editing your emulators and changing their paths is relatively easy (and monotonous)
for Demul at least there is a extract pack in the download section of the forums that lets you copy games out of your MAME set. There are actually 2 of them one by myself the other by @SentaiBrad his pack is actually more up to date than mine but at the same time it also isn't up to date either.
I'm not sure my process is 1 grab the torrent file and save it not open it. 2 then I open two file explorer windows side by side. One contains the torrents I just downloaded the other I use to first open TC then I change it over to my Arcade folder where I have my ROMs CHDs and Software Lists in their own folders. From there I just go into each folder and copy the path paste that in torrent check then go back to the download folder and drag the torrent on to TC and run the process. It produces a nice little notepad file listing every thing that is either missing or wrongly sized and it removes unwanted files. Then I open the torrent in QBittorrent and since I have it set to manual on one of the settings it lets me go through the files in the torrent and download what I want and then download them to my updates folder. I do this to skip the checking that the application does and it will just install the files without checking and this really saves a ton of time instead of trying to check it against all the files you already have (especially for the CHD and SoftwareListCHD torrents)
I run torrent check against my existing set and then use the results to just grab those files which I download to an updates folder then I paste them all in the appropriate folders a little different but mainly the same process.
Do you have an account on the LaunchBox Games DataBase site I believe you have to be registered there to utilize the cloud sync. It doesn't use the same login credentials as the Forums so you have to create a second account.
Make a copy of your data folder and keep it on a different drive and that way you can't really be in risk of losing your LB setup. Stuff like media for the games and the roms themselves can be easily obtained again (of course if you want to be safe you will back them up also) your countless hours of tinkering can not.
