We do, actually, yes. That came up in the live stream yesterday. We can use that same new interface to provide options for various types of videos from various people and places.
-
I'm seeing that too actually. I'm starting to see what might be causing some of the performance issues. It might actually be 100% disk access that is caused by database backup operations... Watching it closely.

Alright guys; new beta is out that fixes a few bugs and improves the video download features for the new cinematic videos from James Baker. The new interface will show you what is available, what isn't, and let you pick between the available options for each platform. We may rename some files yet in order to make it more obvious what is what. Also, please let me know how the download performance is for everyone when downloading the new beta. We've made some changes and we're hoping to see some improvements there. Also let us know how the download performance is when downloading the videos. Thanks all.

@Zombeaver #1 is just because the music engine has to re-initialize if music options were changed. It could be improved though, yeah; I just didn't consider it much of a priority. #2 (per @Charco) is a known issue that I should be able to fix eventually, just a matter of priority of course.

Alright, we'll keep WMP; makes sense. There's only a few minor issues with it that need addressed. I will make VLC the default for new users, though. @viking I hit you up on your theme about that VLC issue. @paulmichel21 Honestly I'm clueless as to why that wouldn't be working. All I can figure is it's some kind of odd bug with AutoHotkey on your machine. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful with that. For everyone who is experiencing performance issues in Big Box, try editing the image priorities options in LaunchBox under Tools > Options. Change the priorities to only have one selected item in the list (if possible) and make sure to uncheck anything that you aren't using. @cammelspit reported that it made a big difference for him; let me know if it makes any difference for anyone else. I haven't been able to replicate any performance improvements myself, but it's worth a shot.

Alright, I did some more research on this @MrBobC. The default theme should show Arcade - Marquee images as a priority and then show any configured Front images using the image priority settings. There could be any number of things going on: - Check to make sure that your platform folders are right under Tools > Manage Platforms in LaunchBox. Check to make sure those are pointed to the correct folders. - Check to make sure the Front Image Priorities under Tools > Options in LaunchBox have items checked and that they make sense. - Refresh the images in LaunchBox to make sure that the images are in fact loading in LaunchBox. Do you get any images at all when viewing platforms on the platforms screen? You should at least get images there if the game images aren't loading for some reason. If even that isn't working, then there's something else that's odd going on.
-
Welp, it makes sense that reducing the number of selected items in the image priorities would speed things up. I'm not seeing any drastic differences myself, but that does make sense. I've looked through the code though and sadly I'm not seeing any ways to really speed that aspect up.

Thank you Cammel, I will look into that right away.

Hi @viking, sadly I'm having major issues getting the video alignment stuff to work properly. I've been working with Cid as well to fix this and it's been a royal pain. For now, unfortunately the VerticalAlignment and HorizontalAlignment properties won't work properly on the video elements. I'm hoping to fix this soon.

Wow, very cool @keltoigael! Indeed, I will bump this up on the priority list. It has been requested quite a bit lately.

Thanks guys. @paulmichel21 I'm sorry, can you explain the always loading the clear logo issue? Where are you seeing that? Are you thinking it's not loading it from the cache? @jaythompson It's people who use custom fields that I'm referring to, not custom platforms. Do you use custom fields? @SentaiBrad That's new to me; my experience is that VLC seems to always be faster. When and where did you see that?
-
Hi @joel, I'll look to see if we have any bugs there that need fixed. Most people don't choose to use only EmuMovies, so I guess it might be a bit of new territory, though it should be working fine. Will review.

Also guys, since we jumped to a new page I'd appreciate if everyone can go back and read my post about the last beta; looking for some feedback.

@salyangel Do you mean Windows is visible in between launching games with Rocket Launcher? I know Rocket Launcher isn't perfect with that stuff; it would be best to put that discussion in another thread though because this thread is for beta testing LaunchBox and Big Box only. @paulmichel21 I just tested and confirmed that the AutoHotkey stuff is working properly for the Escape event script above; I'm not sure what might be happening on your system. What happens if you put in this script instead? $Esc:: { MsgBox, TEST } Do you get a message box popping up when you press Escape?

Thank you @paulmichel21; I will look into that. Beta 10 is out now guys with a few fixes: - The VLC NULL reference issue was still happening because I completely missed what was causing the problem; I really hope this one is finally fixed now lol. This was happening for people who were using music without videos or who were using WMP for the videos. - Platform-specific image types were not being remembered/used properly in LaunchBox when using the new platform category filter type - The issue with using the same platform name ("Arcade") as platform category (also "Arcade") has been fixed; the filters should now work properly in that case Also, some questions for you guys. Does anyone who uses custom fields extensively want to do some performance testing with these latest changes? Or would you mind sharing your Data folder with me? I need to know if the recent performance fixes did anything to resolve performance issues with custom fields. Finally, what are you guys' thoughts on getting rid of the Windows Media Player video playback engine option? Now that VLC is fixed and is not causing problems it seems to be the best choice by far (performance is better and there's a bug or two that still exists with WMP that is not an issue with VLC). Does anyone know of any good reasons to keep WMP? Is anyone still choosing to use WMP? If WMP is worse in all aspects and isn't really providing any added value, then it's not worth my efforts to keep working with it. Thanks all.

I see @MrBobC. Do you see your desktop/the Windows background on your marquee monitor or is it a black screen as expected? Are you using the default theme?
-
@spycat I'm having trouble replicating the sorting issue for some reason. Would you be willing to zip up your Data folder and send it to me at jason@unbrokensoftware.com?

Ah, good to know @Zombeaver. Looks like we may have another issue for the amazing @Vlansix to look at. -
Yeah, agreed @kmoney. We will need to allow for multiple video categories eventually. As it currently stands it is by design that LaunchBox would never use any overridden images or videos from the Big Box themes, as those are only for Big Box. I'll take a look at that video issue as well. @salyangel Thank you for that; very much appreciated.
-
You can indeed currently make custom themes for the marquees. Assuming no one in the community steps up, I should come up with a custom theme for that. It should be relatively easy to tweak the XAML to work properly for all monitor configurations. @MrBobC I'm looking back at your posts and I'm a bit confused. Do you get anything to show up on your marquee screen at all?

New beta is out guys that fixes a bunch of bugs: - Fixed a major performance issue in LaunchBox when arranging by certain fields (anything that duplicates games in the list was causing the slowdown; was originated with the XML split) - Fixed a bug that was pausing the videos when prioritizing music over video audio - Fixed an error that occurred if background music was enabled but the LaunchBox\Music\Background folder did not exist - Fixed a VLC-related null reference error (somewhat widespread due to the new music features) - Background music folder now parses recursively all nested folders Hopefully some good steps in the right direction. Still some bugs to fix, but we'll get there. Let me know if you guys are still seeing any video or music issues with this beta.
-
Thank you guys; all noted. I understand the "remembering the last game" request now. @spycat I am aware of that issue but unfortunately I haven't fixed it yet. It's on my list. @Elber Thank you; I believe that issue is specific to Arcade. It's happening because of having both a platform category and a platform itself that is called Arcade. I'll take a look at that soon. @paulmichel21 Can you explain that?
-
That is really odd as "._BackgroundView.xaml" is not even a file that is used. "BackgroundView.xaml", yes, but not "._BackgroundView.xaml". I'm royally confused here. In thinking about this more; it could be that some sort of other program is putting these garbage files as hidden files in the folder. For some reason I recognize them as such, though I can't remember what app would do that. It's possible that since Big Box is searching for all files in the Views folder, it's choking on system or hidden files like that. Try enabling viewing system and hidden files in Explorer and see if they show up.
-
@MrBobC I can see how that's confusing but the Arcade - Marquee folder is only for arcade games so that could be the issue if you're trying to do it for a non-arcade platform. Try using Box - Front instead.
