LOL, that actually made us laugh. Passed it on to Jason to see if he can fix it for you. It does seem to be the letters though.

The feature is in two locations: When you import a game and in the Edit Platform screen.

xD Yea, I used to have to do odd stuff like that when I had an old PC. Sometimes you wonder if you should just buy your own case. This is why I like PC Parts Picker generally, it tells you about random stuff like this when you're making your build. Or at least it tries to.

XAML is extremely powerful and I would go ahead and say yea, that's possible. XAML is what BigBox is built in to begin with, so almost anything is possible as long as we build the plugin system to accommodate for it. So some stuff may not be possible right away without first updating what we allow and how we allow it.

The entire thing isn't broken, imports were fine to download media still it was only this method, which Jason and I just talked about. So when I said it was broken, it was around the time when we changed the image folders. Even with my giant library, I removed my entire image folder (well backed it up) and opted for an entire system re-download of media. This process worked half and half. This is when I told Jason about it originally (but we both get told and talk about a lot so it's understandable it got lost a bit). Even though games were attached to LaunchBox Games Database ID's the Downloading Images and Metadata function didn't download any media for some games. It did for a majority of my library, but not for some. If a game has an ID, it should just automatically know what to download. I backed up my Nintendo DS Images folder, selected them all, chose the Refresh Selected Images option (which I love now by the way!), and ran the Tools -> Download Metadata and Images function. 252 games with not many holes previously. It seems to have downloaded all the appropriate images now. While Jason didn't fix it specifically, this happens sometimes where bugs crop up and get fixed when something else is added or fixed related to the code being used. He could have added something new related to the download function, and while adding it saw something out of place and fixed it not knowing it was related? I specifically did test previously, several of them. Check it was attached to an ID, then tried the download method and got no images. Used the download function when editing a game and it downloaded all the media just fine. Soo... I'm not going crazy but it does seem to have been resolved.

We tell people that the best way to get their feature implemented is the BitBucket ticket system. We have a lot of noise on a daily basis and we need a way to filter things out. The BitBucket system is our only easy method to do so. We know that there are tickets on there with good vote counts that need implementing and tickets that have low vote counts that need implementing too. It's all a balancing act trying to figure out what's best to get done first, what do we need to do internally, and how long is it going to take Jason to do something. We want all of the tickets to be implemented ideally, but the amount we get is a lot and it's sometimes hard to keep up.

Yea I think that's confusing me is you can set a custom background, but not per system. This has been requested a lot though.

keltoigael said Anyone know a trick or solution to have one back ground image for all game back grounds? Reason I ask I am trying to go for a universal look and I would also like to cut down on image space for a more light build. For example in my Nintendo wheel I would like a static image of mario while looking through games, Sega would be a static sonic background, etc. Per system? I don't remember, but you can set a custom background.

Ah yea, we don't have 3D renders. That's different.
-
Yea that would be a good feature.

Feature Specific Tutorials! I need help from the community!
SentaiBrad replied to SentaiBrad's topic in News and Updates
I think I mentioned this to you previously, but I did an updated tutorial to Jason's and his links out to mine too. It's a newer user friendly tutorial for SNES in RetroArch and LaunchBox. It assumes nothing and covers the basics. I do tell people as often as I possibly can to watch that tutorial as it starts from 0, and it's updated. Jason's version is a little older and I waited several months before covering SNES for that same reason. It is also worth noting that a lot of stuff on your list is covered in my tutorials or you don't need to do anything to use them. Like Save State and Save Load is not something you need to specify. You can change them, but they're already set by default. All you need to do is look in the control menu's in RA. You also don't need to set controller options for 360, Xbox One, PS3 or PS4 controllers, it automatically sets your controls for you when you plug in these controllers. As far as Phoenix goes, it looks to be like they're aiming for FrontEnd control and not just a simple GUI replacement. RetroArch as is doesn't need a massive rewrite like this though. If it is closer to something like a MAME UI vs regular MAME, then that would be nice in the long run, but I doubt that they are moving in that direction. -
Error with music after installing Premium!
SentaiBrad replied to Kingreefer's topic in Troubleshooting
No problem. We know that some users remove it, but most don't and we can usually safely assume that users have it so we can utilize the audio and video engines. Glad you got it fixed though! -
Because generally most people wont watch through an entire tutorial like that for one 4 or 5 min smaller tutorial. The best for YouTube is to separate them.
-
We have 3D Artwork and with the Image Priorities of the latest beta you can easily tell LaunchBox to use them instead. The rest of that stuff has been requested here and there but there have been a lot of things requested and we have to go by what people want the most generally.
-
The platform needs to be called Arcade for the MAME Rom Importer to automatically pop up, or you check the box manually during import to use the MAME Importer. Then your set will import your games based on the check boxes and settings.

Error with music after installing Premium!
SentaiBrad replied to Kingreefer's topic in Troubleshooting
Make sure Windows Media Player is installed or re-install it. If I recall that's what this error is. -
imdavid555 said Just an idea, I know Game Ex and Hyperspin premium offer a coupon code for like a 25% off discount on Emumovies. Would be an awesome incentive if Launch Box did this as well. This is already something we've explored, but we don't have the system available per-se to do it yet.

No, I haven't ever used HyperSpin, nor do I honestly ever want to, but I said that a video can be supplied in one of my above posts. EmuMovies if I recall doesn't offer vertical video anyways, and if that's the case then someone did have to edit the original video to fit the new aspect ratio, something else I talked about in another one of my above posts. So I understand the logistics behind it. Like Jason said, we'll talk to Circo and see if we can get him to offer vertical video on their Database like this so it can be downloaded through LaunchBox. This is the best way we can think of.

I created that thread asking for help on what Feature Specific tutorial you guys would want to see first. I'm gonna make a YouTube video on it as well! https://www.launchbox-app.com/forum/news-updates/feature-specific-tutorials-i-need-help-from-the-community#p20982

Feature Specific Tutorials! I need help from the community!
SentaiBrad replied to SentaiBrad's topic in News and Updates
This thread has been moved to here: So obviously, we get a lot of questions asked daily, and a thread in this same forum section was all about a FAQ that sadly got forgotten about. However, the FAQ only goes so far to cover the more simple aspects of LaunchBox, our Database and Jason and myself. Feature specific tutorials are meant to be all about one specific thing, preferably the things that users are having the most trouble with. Now, I see a lot of questions every single day on the Forums, BitBucket, YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, Steam and everything in between. My question is what do you want to see me cover the most first? I have a short quick list that I came up with and I wold like you to add to it! Feature Specific Tutorials List (so far): Updating Rom Paths with Notepad++ Controller Automation RetroArch Shaders RetroArch custom configs Some of these things have been covered in the tutorial series for systems for sure, but they do need to be broken out for more easier viewing. That is a very quick list I could come up with (my mind is drawing a blank) of thing that I see daily. If you have anything else to offer, please let me know. This sub forum is still locked in an awkward way. You can reply here but it has to be approved. It was supposed to be so that only I or Jason could make threads here, but it's broken for some reason. So if your post doesn't show up automatically or has a notification above it that is why. -
Yea I get why sometimes the cores fall behind. What they do is VERY difficult and if the person who originally worked on the port isn't around or available then the core languishes. I do think RetroArch can take over the emulation scene with their Unified UI and UX. Some things need improving a bit, but this is part where we come in as well. Our entire point is to make emulation easier and beautiful so the user can enjoy their games instead of spending 6 months adding their games and tweaking ini files. ;) I just worry about their ability to scale up at a significant rate.

I do both actually. A lot of my tutorials have a lot of info for RetroArch and I recently did a MESS tutorial and I have a thread accompying it on the forums. I wouldn't call my self a master or guru (though some have called me that), but I teach a lot of things in my tutorials. Specific tutorials on the features of RetroArch and LaunchBox are going to eventually start replacing the full "system" tutorials as I am running out of the major ones and I don't need to do updates to those video's all that often. I am gonna create a thread asking for users to help me vote on feature specific tutorials. Things related to LB or RA, or even MESS, that they need explained a bit more that is not related to any specific system tutorial so that they don't have to sift through a 10-30 min tutorial.
-
Controller Automation probably needs to exist on it's own as a feature specific tutorial. I wanted to cover all the systems mostly first, but it's clear that tutorials for specific features probably should take precedence at this point. I can't find the specific thread right now, our searching kind of sucks on the forums. However, the settings are there in the options for LB and BB and work by assigning the buttons to these functions. It used to be referred to just as AutoHotKey scripts (AHK) but has evolved a bit more. You can even supply more powerful AHK scripts if the user was so inclined.

No I totally get why, I've made comments in other threads about this same sort of thing. The problem with the video, and we are friends with Circo, it's not 100% clear where it came from. You are right, any one can claim video, anyone could be to blame. I trust both Cid and Circo though. You also don't know the condition for the themes, they may be allowed to have the video. It does take a little bit more effort and sleuthing by the person who is going to say stuff like this, if someone is going to be accused of stealing content. If Cid included the video then obviously he shouldn't have, however these themes are clearly created with special aspect ratio's for the video and were only converted as is (as we're led to believe thus far), meaning the video had to be edited and put in there from the original theme creator over at HyperSpin. Why isn't the theme creator being blamed? Where did the video actually come from? These are similar if not the same exact reason why we don't bother allowing uploads of certain things as to prevent something like this from happening. It's too murky of a situation and instead of blatantly accusing users of stealing content in a community that is very trusting, loving and forthcoming, maybe I should have been contacted about this privately? In the mean time I have removed the link until we can actually figure out what is going on. I will talk to Cid when we're both available and figure out what's going on. If need be, I will contact others afterwards and this will be solved.

We are open to any questions people have, and in fact this has been answered on the forums in the past. It may be better to ask RetroArch though if there are any bugs related to it. If they implement a Dolphin Core I hope they stay on top of it. DS and PPSSPP are severely lacking compared to their standalone counterparts.
