I assume you are using a startup screen and that is where you are talking about. If this is correct, which startup theme are you using?
-
So just to be clear. The games run fine if you launch them in Retroarch directly, correct? If so that usually means something in LB is disconnected. From your post things appear ok, but it is always best if we can see pics which is my normal response for cases like this... 1. Share a pic of Launchbox showing your platform names as they appear. 2. Right Click a game and choose edit. In the game's edit screen share a pic of the Launcher Tab and the Emulation Tab. 3. Whatever emulator you are using for the platform and game go to >Tools>Manage Emulators and choose to edit that emulator. In the edit screen share a pic of the Emulator Details and the Associated Platforms Tab.

Zips are ok in RA for a lot of systems. N64 can run fine in zip format in RA. Definitely looks like main issue is not having cores downloaded.
-
I see is it looks like you do not have any cores downloaded for Retroarch. The last image that blue text stating "Missing Core". Have you launched the games directly in Retroarch too see if they work? If not, you have to setup Retroarch first and download the correct cores for each platform that you will run in Retroarch. We always recommend setting the emulator up first and testing games in the emulator before you add them to Launchbox.

Plenty of good questions to answer in prior posts so we can help. If you want to share some pics...Pick one platform you imported games and share the following images. 1. Right Click a game and choose edit. In the games edit screen share a pic of the Launcher Tab and the Emulation Tab. 2. Whatever emulator you are using for the platform and game go to >Tools>Manage Emulators and choose to edit that emulator. In the edit screen share a pic of the Emulator Details and the Associated Platforms Tab.

Depending on the theme's view you are in (vertical wheel versus horizontal wheel) you will either move left or right (vertical wheel), up or down (horizontal wheel). In this image when I pushed left it popped up the letter grid on the bottom. I can select the letter to jump to.

Can the startup screens play sounds / wave files?
Retro808 replied to FlightRisk's topic in Features
Currently this is not possible. I was having issues with audio from video for a startup theme I am making leaking into the emulator for a couple seconds. Jason mentioned this is a problem with exclusive fullscreen and emulators. The startups cannot tell exactly when the emulator takes over. RocketLauncher, if I remember correctly, uses some odd hacks to achieve what it does and I think Jason did not want to hack & slash startups just to get them to work. Do not quote me on that, but I believe that was the gist of it. -
Can the startup screens play sounds / wave files?

You have to add a line of code into the theme's xaml. MediaElement or MediaPlayer should be able to play the audio file. -
Appreciate all the hard work you put into this. My arcade platforms look so much better with these 3D boxes.
-
@y2guru Can you add another? I would love to test it building a 4:3 theme for a new mini cab I built for my kids.

In Launchbox, no. However, in BigBox, yes. There is a setting in BigBox to set your main monitor and your marquee monitor.

Double check and make sure you have the one for "Remember Separate View for Each Platform" checked.

can't load gb roms when using Retroarch through Launchbox?

At least it was an easy fix. Glad it is sorted. -
can't load gb roms when using Retroarch through Launchbox?
Retro808 replied to ModerateNOOB's topic in Troubleshooting
It does not matter that in RA GBC and GB will use the same core. That is all RA related and LB just needs to know what platform to link to what emulator or emulators if you have multiple set up that can run the same game. Anytime you add a platform into Launchbox you have to make sure in the emulators setup (inside Launchbox) the platform name is listed in the Associated platforms tab of whatever emulator it will launch with. That is how Launchbox links the platform and the game in it with a specific emulator. You also have to make sure the name of the Platform as you have it listed in Launchbox is the same way you enter it into the Associated Platform field. For example: You can see Launchbox shows my platform name is "Nintendo Game Boy" so in the Retroarch Associated Platforms tab I have to make sure it lists exactly "Nintendo Game Boy". If I spell it wrong and name it differently Launchbox will not work correctly. -
can't load gb roms when using Retroarch through Launchbox?
Retro808 replied to ModerateNOOB's topic in Troubleshooting
In the Edit Emulator pic you provided I cannot see your GameBoy listing. Do you have GameBoy somewhere in the associated platforms? Is it down lower in the list? Any platform you add to Launchbox that is going to use Retroarch you need to have the name of it listed in the Associate Platforms tab. -

So if you try to run GameBoy roms directly in Retroarch it works, correct? If so, in your Retroarch setup in Launchbox if you edit it and look in the associated platforms tabs do you have the platform name for GameBoy listed there and is it listed exactly as you have it showing up as the platform name in Launchbox? -
Give this video a watch. It may be helpful. Mame Stable Controller IDs

Try checking the "Force Importing Duplicate Games" during the import process and see if that helps. Looks like since you are trying to import all your GBC roms the different regions for the same game may be being excluded as duplicates.

Nice! This update pack just finished off the last few missing boxes from my trimmed down Arcade list. Thanks @Mr. RetroLust for all the hard work.

There are a couple startup themes that use simple images you can check the downloads section and see if any of those fit what you are looking for. If not, you can copy the default theme and rename it then edit the xaml to remove references to the images you do not want to see. If you are comfortable editing code that is. Are you just wanting the loading text and the background image? The reason you have to copy the default theme is you cannot edit any of Launchbox/BigBox default themes. They will always revert back to normal state. This is to ensure LB/BB always have at least 1 working theme.

Creating a Startup Theme with Video Support
Retro808 replied to Jason Carr's topic in Custom Theme Tutorials
Thanks @Jason Carr I agree. So I went and coded audio is mute in the theme and set it to true. Will leave steps on how a user can change if they want the audio to play and leave a notice that there may be some audio overlap if they choose to do it. -

Retro808 replied to Jason Carr's topic in Custom Theme Tutorials
@Jason Carr Update 10 is a huge improvement. So far in some emulators I only get about 1 sec of audio overlap. Retroarch seems to be hit and miss depending on core and how fast the emulator takes control. But it is only 1 second of additional audio heard and then no issues. Thank you for working on this. -
Playlist showing up under Platform Category?
Retro808 replied to garbanzo's topic in Troubleshooting
You can set playlist location when you edit the playlist and go to the parents tab. To remove from platform category make sure Root is unchecked. -

VLC. Tested both on VLC and Window Media. Same effect. Both in LB and BB. -
Creating a Startup Theme with Video Support

@Jason Carr I can confirm the new beta fixed the video play issues I was having. There is one issue still present. The audio keeps looping in the background even after the emulator takes over. I have to close LB completely to clear the audio.
