CHD only come merged and will work fine with the split set. Don't know what the hapyfsh2.zip is but a google search turned up it is some kind of 32-in-1 rom that was recently dropped into .182 and.189 cannot really tell as the searches did not bring up to much more. The clean up question some of the more expert members might be able to help. I do know the launchbox import has a bunch of checks you can use to keep out fruit, mahjong, clones, and such. It does not delete them, it just does not import them into the frontend. I like to keep the full set as many times I come across new games I want to add.

The helpfulness of the mods and members on this forum never ceases to amaze me.

I would say first thing do not worry about controls in LB/BB. Get your controls in RetroArch set up first. I would recommend anytime you add a new emulator and games set the emulator up first outside of Launchbox/BigBox before you add it. Make sure your controls there work, your games play, and the emulator is set up right. If you get stuck let the forum know. We have a great bunch of members that are willing to help out when they can.

@lordmonkus Pretty much summed it all up. Launchbox/BigBox are simply the front ends to organize and assist you in launching your games. You have to set up game play controls in each of the unique emulators you use. Retroarch control set-up is pretty easy. Since you said you have both directional arrows and a 10-key pad on your laptop then launch a game and use 8,4,6,2 to move in a game and it should work since in your screen cap those are the keys you have up, down, left, and right mapped to. Like Lordmonkus advised if you want to change them open Retroarch and go to inputs. Move down to player 1 input binds and start setting your custom options. To change a control move down to it, hit enter, then click the key you want to map it to. It will then save the input to the key you chose. In the screen cap you posted here I can also see it looks like RA is recognizing a controller (User 1 Device Type: RetroPad w/Analog). So it looks like RA can see a controller connected. After you mapped your keyboard keys you can go back and hit enter on a User 1 button and then hit the button on your joystick you want to map it to. RA will then have a button mapped to both a keyboard key and a controller button.

Keep in mind the controls you set in BigBox (that goes for any controls in Launchbox as well) have no affect on the controls used to play games in each emulator. BigBox controls do not control game play. It is only meant for moving around in BigBox. You need to set you controls how you want them in RetroArch directly in order to have you controls how you want them in a game. Retroarch will allow you to bind both a keyboard key and a controller button to each input. In the image you attached you have keyboard keys mapped in RetroArch already. It looks like your directional inputs are linked to numeric pad keys 8,2,4,6. If your keyboard has up, down, left, right arrow keys this may be why when you press them in a game nothing happens. The commands are mapped to the numeric pad keys and not the arrow keys. You need to rebind them to the keys you want.

@lordmonkus Is likely correct on the biggest issue. Something else to consider is if you are downloading from several different sites you may have some severely outdated or just plain old bad roms. I would wager though that lordmonkus advice is your likely culprit.

@HotMommasCowboy In BigBox settings under the keyboard mappings you can set the "switch view" option to whatever key you want. I cannot remember if it is set by default or not. But just head to that setting and set a key of your choice.

I never noticed I was missing metadata until your post. So I played around and was able to get LB to find Wikipedia and GamesDB listing using the following names: Pokémon: FireRed Pokémon: LeafGreen Pokémon: Emerald

@pipes78 Has some good tutorials on RL and LB as well on his youtube channel. I do not use RL but watching his videos has got me to messing around with it and his videos are pretty good. As @bundangdon mentioned Simply Austin's vids are good as well. Pipes78 Youtube Channel

Good to hear you are up and running.

Sorry we cannot be more helpful on where to get the file. I will say try also searching for a file call dl-1425.bin. If you have a qsound.zip already with your 185 pack the update added the dl-1425.bin file to the old qsound.zip. I just did a search of that file name and found a couple sites very helpful.
-
You will definitely need an updated qsound with 185 roms running in Mame 189. It is against forum rules to advise where to get rom files due to legal concerns. I would say go back to where you got your 185 set and see if they have an updates pack.
-
Check to make sure you have the qsound.zip file in your roms folder and it has 2 files in it. The qsound needed updating from Mame 0.186 and up.

@lordmonkus I have to say though the pain in the ass that Mame can be is easily tamed thanks to the knowledge you and the others on this particular forum share. I have learned more since I joined in Feb of this year than I had the previous 6 months when I decided to revive my cabinet. The mods and many members on this forum have my utmost respect for how helpful and friendly you all are. @neil9000 You are very welcome. The thing that always sticks out to me is the command line parameters messing up RA. I do not know how many times I saw a post about RA not working and one of you always catch something as simple as 3 "L's" in the ".dll" or someone spelling Mednafen wrong.
-
@Wheeler Glad it was something relatively simple like the qsound file for your rom issue. I had the same issue you first had when you started the thread and thanks to all of our awesome mods you got it sorted. So I also have to thank you for getting yours fixed and showing me what I needed. It is funny but @neil9000 and @lordmonkus put it best, many times it really is something small.

I don't really think any new emails have gone out about Launchbox in that time frame. I have lifetime membership and the last email in my inbox was back in May.
-
I believe basic membership only gets access to artwork not videos.
-
I believe it was in 186 that they updated the qsound.zip and it now has 2 files: qsound.bin and dl-1425.bin.
-
@Wheeler Look in your roms folder for qsound.zip if that is missing the games like SSF2 Turbo need that file. The qsound file could be one issue as to why some roms are not working.
-
@wheeler I do not think either of those need a chd. Do you get a files missing error or does it just start to load than crash back to Launchbox? Do you have the correct qsound file for your mame version?

This is a good bulk renamer that has been recommended more than a few times here. I have not used it yet, but several of the more experienced forum members have referred to it in prior posts about bulk renaming roms. Bulk Rename Utility

@zetec-s-joe Glad you got it working.

You can add a custom config command line parameter in the Edit Emulator screen. Go to Toosl/Edit Emulator then go to your Retroarch and click the Associated Platforms tab. Enter the custom config command line in that tab. So say you wanted Game & Watch core to run a custom config you would have something like: -L "cores\gw_libretro.dll" -c "config\instert name of custom config.cfg"
-
Nice. Glad you got Mame working in Launchbox. Looks like I will try the command line version as well when I return home.
