Wikipedia AND the Huffington post say it is a word! (I don't hold stock in to either, but yea). Modding an Xbox was rather easy, but a majority of people I knew who had one modded used a friend or a service, paid for a HDD and like $30, got it modded, had a ton of emulators, roms and xbox games. Like I said, there's no right equation here. Xbox has been blown wide open by modding like the Wii and PSP (the level of access is so deep you can install custom firmware on the Xbox and PSP), but in this case it's not helping because of the complexity. Working with the console and it's similarities to a PC help developers, but make emulation worse ironically. The PS4 is essentially a PC and it's OS is a proprietary variant of BSD (supposedly). I don't think the Xbox Is far off in using a variant of Windows 10 even. So those could be either extremely hard to crack and emulate in the future, or extremely easy. Too close to a PC, and it could simply be ported or configured to run on a PC. Close enough to a PC to offer easy development benefits, but far enough from a PC that it requires more than that, and you'll have to emulate a PC like environment. Very tricky stuff. Irregardless is still a word though. Edit: A website I do hold stock in for validity of words is Merriam-Webster though, and they say it's real!!!! (though they need to stop changing the defenitions of words, like Literally. Add new words, stop changing existing ones!)

One of the projects wasn't even an emulator, at least mostly speaking. They were trying to figure out a way to almost natively run Xbox games on Windows. It would use emulation in a lot of areas, but it would have been like a combination of emulation and porting. Yea, the Xbox is very much like a PC. There's a full IDE hard drive inside that has the OS installed on to it and uses a lot of Microsoft specific windows type code. Like it using a modified DirectX. So it would be foolish to call the Xbox a straight PC, but it's certainly derived from a PC in how it was built (no surprise). I have a theory in mind, but it's shattered by the mere existence of good PSP and Wii emulation, but I think it's because it was so easy to mod. It's fairly easy to do, but it also took off, way more than Wii and PSP modding did. Kodi (was XBMC) got it's start as being an Xbox Media Center application. So it might be a bit of apathetic-ness on the part of users. Why emulate something when it's easy to mod, easy to replace the hard drive, and have every single Xbox game inside your Xbox. Hell, mine is modded because I got tired of waiting for emulation. I think it will come, but you're right in your Saturn comparison, it will just take some time. The PS2 was much much more popular, and harder to mod (less people knew about that too), so it was emulated faster (even though the 'emotion engine' is apparently a bitch to emulate). The GameCube was also popular, harder to mod, less people knew about it, so it was emulated. Since the Wii shares the exact same architecture and is essentially a beefed up GameCube, that's primarily why the Wii was modded so so fast. They went hand in hand, and the Wii being modded the way it was helped. The Xbox and PS2 being modded didn't really help with emulation, but I think Wii was blown so wide open that it helped. Wii U emulation is progressing so fast because it's yet another extension of the same architecture. 3DS emulation is progressing so fast because it's an extension of the DS hardware. It also helps that some of these systems were so damn popular, irregardless of the mod capabilities, but the harder the system was to mod the more of a need there was for emulation? Some were also modded so hard it aided in emulation? There's really no perfect equation here, and one potential reason doesn't fit nearly at all to another system and it's reasoning.
  3. There is a BitBucket ticket for this, to expand the media clean-up. It would be best to find that and vote on that ticket. It's the best chance that Jason has of seeing it. I do know that he does want to do this.
  4. No it's not ignored, this is a YouTube request thread that I created. There is a tutorials one though, and I've been asked there to create one, and I've said that I wont. I would not be qualified to create one. I don't use RL at all, and it's disingenuous for me to make a tutorial related to it.
  5. If you grabbed a MAME Rom pack from at least .174 onwards (.180 suggested), the command line is set properly, and if the name of your platform in LaunchBox is Atari 5200 and the name of your platform line in the associated platforms tab is Atari 5200 (they must match), then you should be good. You can use MAME or MESS .180 (MESS is not built by the MAME team anymore and is fully integrated, but I prefer the standalone MESS). If you use regular MAME, as long as your set is in the roms folder, you're fine. If standalone MESS, then it just needs to know where your MAME Rom set is.
  6. It's not that we're suggesting one over the other, it's just what RetroArch requires, and the developers chose those for a reason. My guess, is that they're more mature or more exploitable? Which is two very different sides. One of the 5000 series BIOS is actually just a renamed 1000 series as well.
  7. Also, try an updated MAME rom pack.
  8. Yes there is. There is no timeline, but they are on my list to do. There is a tutorials thread that I created that has a full list of stuff I want to do that hasn't been done, discussions and where users can request. It's the easiest way for me to see interest, but I try and keep notes of everyone's requests, but there is a lot.
  9. Yea, currently you have to go to the Database, find the game, and edit an existing game or add a new one one at a time.
  10. If you rename a platform, all it should do is make a new folder in all of the media folders, but the old platform folder is there, so all you need to do is rename the old system folders in Video, Music, etc, to the new one. Really though, you can call the platform whatever you want as long as you use the Scrape As feature, this way you can have an unlimited amount of custom platforms:
  11. Huh, I'm not sure that's an EmuMovies issue, that could be us. If you could make a ticket about this in the BitBucket by clicking Issues/Requests at the top of the forums, I would appreciate it. That's a totally odd bug... I don't think I've ever had that game.
  12. Do I have to fire you for 48 hours? Is that a thing I can do? Never stopping. I knew you'd still be working, mark of someone who loves their job though I guess (I get the same way).
  13. Actually, we're not on Beta right now, we are on a full 7.1. The reason for that though was to fix bugs caught for LB7. We catch way more bugs when we fully release it then between the last beta and the full release. That's been the case for several major versions now. So major release, then several non-beta sub releases, then we go in to the Beta cycle of 10-20 beta's for new features. This could have been a bug since beta 15 for all we know, or just happened recently, it's hard to tell. Jason is out for at least a week though for Christmas and New Years, so he'll certainly take a look when he gets available.
  14. Is your platform for PS1 named the default name? That's the only reason why I could think that would happen... unless it was a random internet issue, but for just one platform? I doubt it.
  15. I'm not 100% as it's been a while, but you might have access to the Default Background option only and not the Image Priorities. I recall images shuffling through back there, even when I was on the free version, but I don't remember honestly. Default Background doesn't give too much control though, Image Priorities is Premium only and where the fine controls are at.
  16. So talking about performance, Big Box uses a much heavier and much more complicated engine to power it's self. That's not meant to be a dig at HS or anyones choices, they made the best decision they could how ever many years ago, and this is where we just decided to make the decision. So Big Box performance can drag on lower end systems, and the larger the library the slower they can get. Performance is always a concern and always being improved, LB7 saw a gigantic increase in performance. There are also some options dealing with the wheel (like the wait time), and with performance climbing I think that can be something we can match in our own way (we can never be a different product, so I say in our own way). Also, the themes in HS are now videos in Big Box and LaunchBox. @CriticalCid is directly porting a ton of them, and @BakerMan used to create some for HS and now creates them for us, and brought over his whole library. Past that, our actual theme engine is just wildly different. I believe they used a Flash engine, SWF, and we use a more code oriented Microsoft solution called XAML. @CriticalCid has also been creating some of the better and best themes so far. There are tons of themes in the download section by lots of people as well, so there's lots to choose from and I believe the idea is to get downloading integrated in to LB. So all in all, it's a little hard to compare us, and what they did have we have access to in the form of video's now because the community willed it to happen, and they made it happen. Big Box can also show platform videos, and game videos, when scrolling through surrounded by the actual theme. So EmuMovies provides all of the gameplay footage currently, and that's downloaded inside of LB with an EM Premium account. Some views and some themes do different things with the different videos, how it's displayed and used, and some themes or views don't utilize the game details pane either. So everything you are asking might be done differently, but is currently achieved in Big Box, 100%. There are tons of videos and tutorials on the matter, as well as tons of threads. Search some keywords here and look around. Also check out our demo or Big Box related videos on the channel, as well as the Tutorials Playlist for more help. Not all of the tutorials are system related, there are feature specific tutorials too, like EmuMovies. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSIht6UXIEXIgz4eXAEShxA/videos https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6pTDaHeAz-WMcNURVPU-1xLN_TVpT3FB
  17. Sweet, glad you got it running!
  18. Well, we would certainly welcome the additions, so please feel free to upload them if you'd like. It would be a lot easier for the users to obtain them this way.
  19. It's because it is more or less using "escape" as the button to close. In most emulators this is totally fine, however, in some it's not. In this case, a task kill command is probably what's going to need to be used in the Custom AHK Script area when you edit your VBA-M entry. I don't know if mGBA has that quirk, and I would easily call that one of the best GBA emulators. There is also the RetroArch route, and using VBA-M or the mGBA cores. Default Controller Automation works in RA, but you will need that extra script.
  20. There are a ton of different DOSBox builds that are technically better, but this is one that we for sure can distribute with LB. Not to mention, I'm not sure Jason was completely aware of the different versions at the time, and some versions do have different commands for different functions. For example, DOSBox Daum doesn't work when installing a DOS game via ISO or Disc inside of LB, the commands are slightly different. So it would require a decent amount of time to swap over. A user changing the version of DOSBox isn't too hard, but some versions like DOSBox-x (the version I want to use) doesn't quite work with LB. The DOSBox SVN builds (which DOSBox-x is based on, but with more features), should work and provide a more up-to-date vanilla-ish DOSBox experience, and should be fine. Even DOSBox LFN may have some quirks that I don't know about, when trying to use it with LaunchBox, so sometimes things may not function properly (like installing a game from a Disc).
  21. Well, this is the thread for the YouTube channel, not LB/BB specifically. I mean, unless you want me to start making movies, but I'm sure no one wants to see that. Movie support has been requested for a long time now, there is certainly a feature request ticket on the BitBucket, but it's certainly not a current goal. It's a potential future goal. Adding movies, or anything you want really, is technically possible, but just not scraping. That last request might actually be super unique. I don't know how that could be judged, that's super opinionated. That discussion should happen though. I'd be interested if you created a separate thread for that and created a ticket for it on the LB/BB BitBucket. That would require Database additions as well though too.
  22. The completion thing is a known bug, I guess you can call it. A random game selection for Big Box has also been getting requests as well. These do already exist on the BitBucket though and should be voted on as that's the best way for Jason to see the feature requests with the most votes. To get to the BitBucket for LB/BB, click Issues/Requests at the top of the forums.
  23. I just updated the guidelines, I apparently forgot to add Rom Hack stuff. So check it out, moderators and submitters need to be up to date. If you have any questions or have any points of discussion about the new rule, let me know! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wB80CH3zecXccfQ4Et8NxYa-G1bQuo7eo1YHvkYQ728/edit
  24. That just sounds liek the default location. Setting it and closing the emulator should set a place for the location and save it for next time. That's most likely a Windows thing. There is software you can use to manage windows like this (I use DisplayFusion for this and actively use it on RetroArch), but only if it isn't behaving then try that software.
