I'm not about to get into a debate about how accurate or inaccurate it looks. To start of with very few if any modern displays can actually replicate a CRT 1:1 and second comparing it using a compressed Youtube video makes a huge difference in how it truly looks in motion. You really do need to see it in person at full size and the higher the resolution of the monitor helps immensely, pixel density matter. Shaders aren't about creating a 1:1 indistinguishable to a CRT image, it's about making an image that is more appealing to the eye if you cannot stand scaled up squared pixels, which I cannot tolerate. It's personal preference.

[Request] Change default emulator for game in Big Box
Lordmonkus replied to Bri Bri's topic in Features
Well another option is the software "Controller Companion" which is only like 3$ on Steam and basically lets you have a virtual keyboard with your controller. I know it's not exactly what you want but it is another option. If you can come up with a plugin for it though I am sure that would be awesome and yeah @Jason Carr is pretty busy lately, he's got a lot of things that a lot of different people want implemented. The poor guy has a list more than a mile long of things people want lol. -
[Request] Change default emulator for game in Big Box
Lordmonkus replied to Bri Bri's topic in Features
The only way I know of right now is to edit the game and change it's emulator. I would suggest a wireless keyboard + touchpad combo like the Logitech K400 and keep it somewhat handy for when you need it for something. Even though it's a "couch gaming pc" it still is a PC and every now and again you will need a keyboard and mouse for something. https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Keyboard-Multi-Touch-Touchpad/dp/B005DKZTMG/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1504242808&sr=8-4&keywords=logitech+k400 The K400 is nice and small with only a single USB port being used for both functions. -
Simply bind the diagonals in the Input Configuration, the best way I found to do it reliably was was to click and hold the mouse button in the diagonal direction box and while the mouse button is held press the diagonal on your control, It should bind. Another option is Retroarch which myself and many users around here think is the best overall way to emulate anything that is 8, 16 or 32. If that is something you have no experience with it can be a bit daunting but the effort put into it is well worth it. Here is a guide I wrote up for newcomers to it to help get it up and running.

Vsync should not cause performance issues unless you have a low refresh rate display and it's syncing to it. Triple buffering will cause input lag since it is holding 3 frames of the game info in the buffer. I think that is how it works anyways.

There is usually a 50% off black friday sale every year (1 day only event) but that is about it for sales and sometimes Jason will do draws to give away 100 licenses.

Yeah updating Mame just for the sake of it is not worth it. I only update when there is a compelling reason to do so like improved shaders or audio.

Split and non-merged are the 2 recommended ones to use. Personally I use split because it allows to me to pick the specific version of a rom I want which is handy in certain 4 player games like Gauntlet and TMNT. I like being able to pick the 2 player versions of these since it lets me choose the exact character I want instead of being stuck with whichever character is player 1. Also on my HTPC I like to have both the 4 player and 2 player versions imported and labeled slightly different so I know which is which.

You may not like the answer I am going to give you but please for the love all that is good do not use ZSnes, at least upgrade to Snes9x at a minimum. ZSnes is extremely old, outdated and by any standards a terrible emulator to use. Retroarch with its Snes9x or BSnes cores are many peoples preferred SNES emulator nowadays but the stand alone version of Snes9x is at least a functional emulator and is far more compatible than ZSnes. As for a reason why your problem is happening that would most likely be a ZSnes problem and not a Launchbox problem, Launchbox does nothing to interfere with an emulators save function.

Mame can be such a pain in the ass too because of its way of doing things in terms of roms. Unlike other systems where you have your emulator and rom Mame has all the "parent", "clone" and "bios" roms. It's generally easiest to just get a full set of roms and the matching version of Mame for that set when you are just getting started out with using Mame. Once you get used to it then you can start doing more advanced stuff like pulling out individual games and their required files.

What sort of issues with .NET 4.7 ? I haven't noticed any problems with it.

We try our best to get people through tough spots, sometimes it's the smallest things that trip us up the worst.

LOL, glad you got it sorted.

No problem and yeah to make changes to the core you need to have the core and a game loaded.
-
Hmm, it worked for me though for me I had to enable V-Sync since I have it off by default. Just as a double check. Load the core and a game for that core, go to the video settings in the main menu and disable V-Sync. Then go to the Quick Menu and Save Core Override.
-
To remove the shader save out a "Core Preset" in the Shaders section of the Quick Menu. Then look in \shaders\preset\ folder for a folder for the core you saved out the preset for. In there you will see a shader preset file, open that in Notepad. Change the line shaders = to shaders = "0" and delete everything below that. Now when you open a game using that core it should have no shader effect at all. For the Vsync off load up a game using the core you want it off for, go to the video settings and turn it off. Then in the Quick Menu save a Core Override which is right below the Shaders menu entry. Double check it by going into the \config\ folder and the core folder for the core you just save the override for. In there will be a .cfg file, open that in notepad and you will see an entry in it for the vsync option.

I don't have an answer for you but maybe someone else around here will, in the meantime I would suggest asking about it over on the Retroarch forums.
-
Nope, not patronizing at all, only stating facts. The stuff you are doing and complaining about are not only outside of the realm of normal use, they are outside the realm of abnormal use. You are quite literally doing things that no one would ever being doing at all let alone once in a while in oddball scenarios. This isn't troubleshooting this is just plain wasting our time trying to find a solution for a non existent problem. Not only that myself and @DOS76 do not experience these issues even doing the exact same thing you told us and showed us. And of course no one else experiences these problems because no one else does these extremely oddball things because they make zero sense to ever do. Locking this waste of time and energy now because like I said, you do this same extreme nitpicking over nothing on other forums as well.
-
Ok I see what you are talking about and to be perfectly honest and blunt, you have to be kidding me. I'll start with the media download first, that is just having to wait for Launchbox to connect to server and query it, not a problem. Second. I will address the dragging around of the window. Who just sits there dragging their windows around in circles for seconds on end just to see if there is a "stutter" ? Third. Much like the window dragging issue, who just sits there dragging the scroll bar up and down that much and fast ? Why would you even do that ? You can't even see what games are scrolling by. To be perfectly honest here what you are doing and complaining about are extremely minor and well outside the bounds of normal usage. You are quite literally nitpicking over nothing and being quite petty and I have noticed this is a common trait of yours here and other forums.

I don't think it's a case of up to date or not up to date. I also use an Nvidia graphics card in my main system and an older Radeon 7800 series card in my HTPC. It could possibly be one of the Windows processes, one of the first things I do with a fresh Windows install is disable a bunch of processes that are useless to me. Could you record a video of the issue and upload it ?
-
I said play nice and that applies to both of you.
-
Now now, play nice. I would suggest looking into other programs or services that you may have running that could be causing some sort of interference.
-
Yeah this would be very tricky to do for games that have multiple files like many of the CD based systems that have a cue + bin files. The cue is the rom and needs the bin ( or multiple bins to work.
-
Yeah I can't see why anyone would have any problems with this but of course different people may have differing opinions on it, especially if you are monetizing your videos (which I have no idea if you are or aren't).
