Where you able to get this working? i'm wanting to attempt for the 100th time to get Daphne up and running in my new build, but would like to know i can actually map buttons to my arcade sticks ( using a joystick-usb encoder ). The sticks will be seen as the dpad on a generic usb controller.

MAME Software List not importing fully/correctly.
thegreatiandi replied to aramis's topic in Troubleshooting
Welcome to the fold...I'm with you as a newbie myself. So i just updated to MAME 0.199 myself a few hours ago. I did the none merged set ( Not sure which one you did ). I just noticed that there are SOOOOOOO many more files this go-round and so much of it seems to differ when i cross reference with the old set i have. Have you noticed any newer games with this update, any games that appear to run better or perhaps any issues? Take a look at the snap i took of what i mean: The scraping you are referring to....this is for game data, yes? Coming from building 4-5 raspberry pie units, thats a term i associate with emulation station. If it's the same thing-esq, then it gives you either still images of the games or a video snap, yeah? And you have the ability to skip clones??? So like, street fighter 3... there is usually 6 different versions downloaded of the same game....but some are from Brazil, Japan, USA, etc. Are you saying it allows you to not even see these other versions, or it only gathers images/video for one of the versions, but you still see them all??? By the way, the forums are awesome here. Moderators that are super active and jump in to help out all the time. I should know...i feel like a case study by now?? lol. -
I just got these in from Ebay today. I,m going to do a quick install and see how they pan out in the next few days. I just hope they are seen as USB controllers and literally have no lag. This would kill the fighting games if they do
-
Interesting to say the least, man. This almost throws off my entire idea for the set-up for my four player can, lol. I planned on getting the ipac-4 and just never be able to play ANY of the new fighters that the system can play.....just stick to whatever fighters MAME has available. If what you're describing works...I guess I could just get either the Ipac-2 and two of the joystick pcb boards to be seen as USB controls......or just told with 4 of these pcb-USB joystick interface and call it a day. As far as lag....I always think a quick play of super Mario bros....on nes...trying to run and jump on the top of the flagpole...tells me if there's input lag or not. That or Mike Tyson's punch out. If you can dodge left/right when the punches from Tyson are coming...I would think you're good lol.
-
So how is the lag with these? I ask because it's almost taboo to not use Ipac2 or Ipac4. This is what i have in my 1st gen arcade. It works great...no software, no fuss, no mess. Problem is, i can't do what i described though because it's seen as a keyboard.
-
Ohhhh...so no need for the I-pac2 or 4 if i just pick up 4 of these ( I already have 4 Happ joysticks and a crap ton of buttons )?
-
So in my mind...these will allow you to plug the usb into the PC and have it think thwer is a X-box 360 controller plugged in...and then mapping buttons of games that require it...will let you map away. I have wondered if i could just use one of the " no lag " pcb-usb interfaces and i'de be good to go...but the issue is, what will the PC recognize this as. If it sees it as a generic USB controller, maybe it's perfect....but i don't know anyone that has used this in the scenario that I'm proposing to verify.
-
The only thing about that setup is, PC fighters like Street fighter 4/5 will not work with it. I have that same basic thing on my 1st gen arcade, and no go for any new fighters. You can't map both players to one keyboard. The new games must have a keyboard and one USB controller. Tekken 7, Mortal Kombat X, Killer Instinct, Injustice...they all require that exact setup. Im trying to figure out a way to make this possible because the emulation PC can more than play these titles...but the damn games just won't allow it.
-
Bro....bro....you have no idea what you are missing. Barbie Super Model is right up there with Super Mario bros 3, Festers quest and Treasure Dizzy..UGH lol I do like the setup as well...i do think i may have to include all of my games though...it took me the better part of 18years since starting my journey into emulation to amass them all. I don't want to all be for nothing!
-
That will be so welcome. Here's hoping! Question for you: do you happen to know anything about a " 360 controller " emulator? I heard it's made to tell the PC that you have a 360 controller attached via USB...but it allows you to map your controller buttons to your keyboard? Here is a photo of them ( I can't actually find them on the net yet in case I hear there the way to go ).

Man...I know lol. It's not the smallest build for sure. My wife was giving me the, " that shit's to big to go in the ? " look. So I made sure I built it in a modular fashion ?...took 5-10 minutes with the drill to take it apart...and 5-10 minutes to put back together. I'm about to begin the journey into launchbox itself this weekend. I figure if I can sludge through hyperspin for the arcade you see on the right in the last pic....from what I hear, Launchbox should be a breath of fresh air ?.

So I'm finally " done " with the cabinet build. I did this entire thing with just one skill saw, one cheap corded drill and a cheap $23.00 nail gun from harbor freight ( two years ago I had already purchased a small 3gal pancake compressor for $49.00. it did the job perfectly ). I used three 4'x 8' MDF boards from home Depot for $19.99 each. A few misc peices of reinforcement wood purchased for $20. One gallon of black Simi gloss paint for $27.00. One can of black flat spray paint for $6.99. I used thin trim for...well, the trim, instead of t-molding. Cost was $29.99 for those. I bought a 48"x 30" plexiglass from home Depot...with a plexiglass blade to cut it to size all for $53.00. I'm using a 42" LCD with high response time that I had laying around. The PC I built last year in anticipation of this build for about $200. I have a 4 player HAPP arcade bundle I got off eBay for $69.00. Here is the link... although it's more now. https://www.gameroomguys.com/Happ-Arcade-Control-Panel-Multi-Color-Kit-4-Player?dfw_tracker=20153-24865&matchtype=&network=g&device=m&adposition=1o2&keyword=&campaign=835173769&adtype=pla&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIyI3Oj_uS3AIVlMhkCh17sAhwEAQYAiABEgJONvD_BwE Now I'm needing to get the ultramarc 4player ipac. I'm thinking I would like a gun or two as well...but not sure because of the horror stories I hear of the set-up and inability to work on a regular basis. I'm needing to figure something out for the 2-player fighting games that will not allow you to map multiple players to one keyboard ( killer instinct, mortal Kombat, street fighter 4&5, marvel vs, etc. ). I hear v-joy is a pain and has to be started before playing. That sounds like it pulls you out of the emersion for sure. So what do you guys think? Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

Can i just say...it's so bad ass that the Man...the Myth...the Legend even has time ( or the desire ) to attempt to help out? This is seriously why i had ZERO issue paying for Launchbox. These forums are just awesome...and the moderators actually help out. I haven't even attempted the setup yet because I'm finishing the build first...and it's awesome to see this type of communication with us and the creator?.

Most interesting ??. What is the native resolution of the second monitor? Also...in the monitor set-up configuration, how is it created? Do you have it set to side by side uhd ( extended desktop style ), or do you have it set in matrix mode ( we call it tile matrix )? I'm hoping to help here, man.....because I may want to do the same thing once my can is complete.......and to help for the sake of helping ?. It just seems like the card isn't sure what to place where...so when it works, it's because it's giving it's best guess of what you want based on the monitors limits/abilities ?...know what I mean?

It seems to me that you must be exceeding the horizontal pixel space of your video card. If you are pushing 4k on one monitor...and I doubt you are ( 4096*2160 red 4k )....that may be the issue. Since im sure it's UHD ( 3840*2160 )....once you add a little hd Pixel space to that, especially one that is true HD ( 1920*1080 ), you are adding an un-uniform space to the overall. The aspect ratio is screwed up this way. I created a lil drawing on my cell really quick as an example of what I mean....it shows the 4- he quads for uhd...and then the 1080 that is an issue. Uhd is four quad's of 1920x1080 pixel spacings...each combined to make a 16:9 aspect ratio. Once you add an additional 2560*1080 to the upper right hand corner ( or to any side if the uhd pixel space )...it creates an aspect ratio that doesn't exist. There's no EDID for that....so I can see it having issues. The only way I could see that working is if you started out with an overall 7680 x 4320 pixel space. Then you wouldn't be placing the 2560*1080p of the second monitor you want to use in negitive space. This is just my observation from what I do at work all day. Perhaps the program can manipulate this to work...but from a video stand point...it shouldn't unless you have the pixels space in the first place to make it happen. *on a side note... This should never be an issue with two 1080p monitors because the combination of these two side by side is just 3840*1080....a simple 3.5 aspect ratio that most every Single mid level video card has an EDID for. It's not an uncommon aspect ratio...and you're not adding additional pixels to negitive space. ***One last thing of note... Dvi has a Max resolution of 2560*1080 only on dual link cable. Make sure you have it if you must run at that res. However... adding 2560 more horizontal pixels to your 3840 from the uhd monitor still puts you at 6400 pixels wide. Still not within a common aspect ratio that consumer monitors are likely to understand, weird resolution for your video card to push because it's not common...and there's still the issue I've mentioned already.* this is crude...but I think you can get the picture*

RetroHumanoid Genre Video Set
thegreatiandi commented on RetroHumanoid's file in Playlist Theme Videos
These look GREAT. Now I have done not one day of set up for launchbox just yet...I'm getting finished with the cab build. So I'm not sure where these videos would actually play. Can you tell me? I thinking these are for groups of like games/genre games? Where do you place these vids for playback? Thanks man -
Nice. I've never used that program...I'm on it though. I hate the monthly nonsense with Adobe nowadays. Smart idea. I just created a intro video for my friends Rasberrypi/retro pi and made sure to get the white background pics. Easy to integrate these when you just have to key out one color.

Hello all. I have a question about games that will not allow you to map 2 players to a single keyboard. Games like Street-fighter 4-5, Mortal Kombat x, Injustice, the new KI, etc...will not allow you to map you more than one player to a single keyboard. Why that is, I'm not sure. It really sucks when you see the Steam sales coming and you buy a slew of new 2d fighters just to find that you aren't allowed to play it on your arcade setup. I'm sure that there is some kind of program out that will help you by tricking the program into thinking you have joysticks attached, but could you not just plug in two cheap keyboards to your emulating Pc and have it see them both independently ( V-joy i think it's called...but i hear it's a mess to set up )? So with my new 4-player cabinet I'm building, it has a 42" lcd inside. With this, i want to add new fighters and take advantage of the higher resolutions available. Without a way to do this mapping though, that would make this impossible. Besides dreading setting up the two light guns i want to install and setting up Dragons lair...this seems like it will be the 1'st in line for hair pulling moments. Any help on this would be great guys. Thanks everyone!

Hey man, I have a question about a few of these games. I have street-fighter 4 on my current arcade and as good as it looks, you can't have both players assigned to the same keyboard. Have you found a way around this issue? Have you encountered the issue yourself? In regards to the other fighters you have on this list, how many of them have that same issue i have mentioned ( if you have encountered them anyway )? Thanks!

Hello all. I have a question for you regarding analog vs 4-way/8-way sticks. Has anyone ever used one of these for there arcade setup before? I have always wondered about their application in regards to an Emulation arcade build. Since a lot of games past the 8-bit era shifted to the " meh " 3d polygon look, there are lots of games that require it. We have all used the standard " d-pad " setup to play a few of these games, and we all know it's hit or miss. I found an Ultimarc Analog arcade stick that im wondering about ( http://www.ultimarc.com/ultrastik_info.html ). Has anyone ever used one of these? If so, what was the result? Not sure if it's something worth investing in for my new build or not...but in theory, it does open up a lot more of the retro library if it works as i assume it does. Thanks for any information!

So, that looks like more of what i thought lol. Nice...and thanks for the assist. So yes, my arcade is a 4-player cab that I'm finishing up. It has a 46" mon as the display, so i had to make it bigger. I would like to get that full 8'x4' like the original cut of wood..then i can just lay it on each side piece and trim accordingly. I also created it in the garage as a modular cab so i can easily take it apart and move it indoors and rebuild it. Easy peasy. Now getting the graphics to look good on it and figuring out how to do graphics of the control panel is something else entirely. You said you just came up with a bunch of art from the net..and placed it on a collage of sorts? Because that looks professional to me?!

Thanks for getting back with us, man. So my question would be: vinyl? I would think that was super thick and an abrasive material. How was getting it adhered to the wood? I'm on their site right now, and i like the price for sure...but i just wonder if this " banner " material will look good on the side of the arcade cab.
