In all seriousness, I'd like to think that we have one of the least toxic communities around. I would think (and hope) that most people around here would agree. And I of all people will be the absolute last person to advocate censorship, but if it's my responsibility to do something (in this case, protect these boards), I'm going to do so as best I'm able. There's never been an "official" stance so it's always just been at our discretion. If Jason's fine with it, I'm fine with it.

I appreciate the work you've done here, so it wasn't meant as anything to the contrary. I don't use them myself (setting them up is actually part of the fun for me; that and I use Munt and VirtualMidiSynth for MT-32 and GM audio) but I wholeheartedly salute any effort to bring these games to people that probably wouldn't experience them otherwise. It's a huge span of games that are worthy of people's attention (and shouldn't be forgotten) so I'm really glad that something like this exists. Godspeed

You made me change the notification settings to something arguably better (that should be default... just saying).

Anyway what we get from this thread:

- Weird pics.

- eXo lies a lot (fact).

- Kubla Khan reference.

- Torrent IS the best method to spread files, by far.

- Newsgroups are so old that even look old to me, that I remember 2400MNP5 MODEM like "a new thing much better than 1200" yesterday and some people need to come to the 21st century.

- PD. PD is PD. It is innocent. The place.

- There are other places (oups, you didn't get that from the thread).

- People want 3.0 yesterday. (I know I do)

- I will still need a way to use this with an already set-up Launchbox (and actually most in here, as most of them are here exactly because they HAVE Launchbox already?).

I remember being amazed by (and struggled to wrap my head around) BBS on our C64 when I was a kid. That said, I wouldn't go back to those days for anything; any more than yearn for the return of Geocities haha.

For those with existing lb setups, the solution will likely be to drop the dos platform xml over your existing one.

The benefit of this is it adds eXoDOS to your setup without affecting your other platforms. The negative is it won't work with any existing DOS games you have installed. But once you have eXoDos, you won't need your other DOS games

Nothing weird there, just a small man in a skirt and a hat waving a huge sword. Just the usual, move along.

C64 had a 300bps MODEM cartridge.
Basically C64 ruled the world.

But I went online really (actually dialing to BBSes) when 1200 was more common and 2400MNP5 was just about to happen. The big news were MNP5 of course, since before that, every little phone line crack (they were analog of course) meant errors in the text or (painfully slow) download.
Remember waiting minutes for a 30Kb nude gif. Now there is VR and interactive porn.

I'm kicking myself now for selling off all my vintage gear, mostly Atari's, 400, 800, 520ST. But I did have that A500 and an Apple //c. I had always wanted an Apple but they were like 3 times the price of my Atari 8-bits. When I finally got the money together for one I was pretty disappointed in the thing, mostly because the games on it sucked compared to my beloved Atari's, haha. So I dumped it for the Amiga. Wish I still had that Amiga

A few months back I bought a used Atari 800 in great shape and added the Ultimate Cart and a Sio2SD for disk emulation so I can load and save ATRs. It's really scratched my retro itch and I'm looking to expand once Christmas is over and I recover from that. The son has me on the hunt for all those new mini arcade machines now.

I also have my Atari 2600. :-P That said, no space to actually use them.

Only torrent is not something illegal. It is good way for decentralized downloads and evendors major companies use it.

the sheer size of the project is a logistical nightmare to share. Hopefully you find a nice host for the files
