This is definitely something we need, but we need to add a bunch more related options so that the default images are completely customizable. So this is coming, but it might be a bit yet.

This issue is unfortunately going to be extremely difficult to troubleshoot and resolve, largely because it seems to be only happening on your system and I can't reproduce it. It's even weirder that it's only happening on first launch. Does it happen if you boot up the computer, and let it sit there for 10 minutes before launching Big Box?

Hey all, I'm very sorry for the delays and breaks from streaming, etc. This summer has just been insane for me. Anyways, I do have a new beta out for you guys. I've been working on the alternate titles stuff for like a week now, and I have alternate title combining working properly for both imports and ROM consolidation. It honestly proved to be much more of a pain than I expected, but I think it's mostly there. I'll go through the rest of this thread here shortly.

I have seen that before. I'll check that out Monkus.

Just put out beta 6 with steam banner support and the Star Wars-style Big Box Wall View (though it probably still won't be the final version).
-
That's odd, though unfortunately it sounds like some kind of odd incompatibility with video drivers and the latest version of .NET, or something along those lines. Anyone else seeing anything similar to this? I would try grabbing all Windows updates and video driver updates, etc.

Hi Wolf, in my testing Big Box is blocking any input while loading up a game, at least while the loading pop up is visible. However, I have seen some focus issues if keys continue to be pressed after the popup goes away and the emulator is still loading. I'll come back to this and see what I can do to address it here soon.

BIGFLIX: A new user experience for your HTPC
Jason Carr replied to SNAK3ATER's topic in Big Box Custom Themes
This looks amazing @SNAK3ATER! I should be able to get steam banner support for the wheels added very soon. Possibly in the live stream today. -
@slashguns04 That's hard for me to translate since I can't just copy and paste it, but I believe that's just an Internet connection issue.

Beta 5 is out and hopefully it fixes @lordmonkus's performance issues in LaunchBox. It's a shot in the dark but I'm hoping so. I won't be back to this thread until tomorrow night now unfortunately, so I can address any further issues then (and the rest of the thread). I'm out for now.

So this is in LaunchBox right? Is it scrolling performance? I have an idea as to what might be happening.

Hey all, had some dev time so I got a new beta for y'all. First and foremost, I finally updated LaunchBox and Big Box to the .NET Framework 4.7. The setup should prompt you to install it if needed. However, it's possible for the installer to fail if you're way behind on Windows updates. So if it fails, just update Windows and try again. There have been quite a few performance improvements to WPF in .NET 4.7, so hopefully those performance improvements will be reflected in Big Box as well. I also updated SharpDX, which is just the libraries that we use to interface with DirectX. I don't expect that to make a major difference anywhere, but it's worth noting. Finally, I added a very early wall view to the Big Box games lists. Please note that it's still in development and I expect quite a few things to change before the official release (such as adding proper up/down navigation). We'll probably get back to the wall view in the live stream on Monday. Take it easy guys and have a great weekend.

@Mike69pt My apologies, I have been spotty in the last few days because of summer family things. What this probably boils to though if things are being choppy in Big Box is that your video card is the bottleneck. That's most often the issue with choppy graphics in Big Box. Unfortunately there's not a whole lot we can do to improve that. We're always working on performance, but we are limited to the performance that WPF can provide, which is the Microsoft technology that we use to render the graphics. I don't know what your video card is in that machine but I'm guessing it's fairly underpowered for the graphics. We are more than happy to give you a refund if it's not working out for you. The only other thing that I can suggest is to use a more lightweight theme in Big Box. I'm not sure what theme you're using right now but that can make a huge difference as to the performance.

Alright guys, beta 3 is out which should solve the performance issues with the search. I spent a lot of time yesterday working on the Big Box DPI issues and I figured a bunch of stuff out, but it's a royal pain. The best solution I've found so far is that if you go into compatibility settings on BigBox.exe and disable DPI scaling (or "override high DPI scaling behavior" with scaling performed by "application") it works perfectly. But the problem is I can't figure out how to make it behave properly like that without manually making the user do that. So sigh, I'm stilling working on it.
-
@slipsystem That is one thing that has been really tough to figure out, and it's the reason why we never allowed submitting games in batch from directly within LaunchBox. Honestly there's really nothing we can do about it either way. I don't really understand what Simon's getting at though, since he doesn't want to release API keys to users.

0 byte image files crash LaunchBox/BigBox when viewed (Ram leak?)
Jason Carr replied to syntax_X's topic in Beta Testing
Thanks guys, I just added this to my short list, so I'll see if there's anything we can do to help prevent any issues with zero byte files. -
Thanks guys. I have the performance issues fixed I think (since the live stream on Wednesday), but I'm still working to improve the search. @SNAK3ATER I actually did add #1 already so that will be available in the next beta. #2 we can hopefully look into soon. #3 is very much a priority right now, so though it is difficult, I do plan to tackle it before the 7.11 release.
-
Hey Quad, I'll have to look into this. I believe negative spacing was causing some other issues with physics, so that would probably be why. Hopefully I can look into it in a live stream here soon.
-
Almost forgot to update you guys! I put beta 2 out earlier with proper searching for alternate titles from the LaunchBox Games Database. Just had a thought though that I didn't update the required Metadata version, so let me know if anyone is running into any errors lol.
-
Hi @Rod, I definitely agree that it should be done soon. We probably need to finish out the remaining items from the poll first, but yeah, I can see this being a priority.
-
I did get quite a bit more in there before the 7.10 release, actually. So it should even be available for the official release.
-
Absolutely! That should be already available though relatively easily with ISystemEventsPlugin. You can have your class implement both IBigBoxThemeElementPlugin and ISystemEventsPlugin I believe. Though there may be some weirdness due to multiple instances, hmm. But anyways, let me know how that works and if you run into any issues I can add something in the live stream tomorrow.

Wow. That is looking incredible @SNAK3ATER. Especially the room view. I love it!

Unfortunately those would need manually combined.
