Thanks for the feedback. Just to clarify a few things. The new GameDetails was a team effort. The goal was to update the look, but to have it streamlined for as many users as possible. We tried to make things as flexible and customizable as possible, so that custom themes can be made with as many alterations as possible. That's what's great about LaunchBox, we provide a default canvas, and you guys can go crazy.

Just to answer a few of your inquiries:

    • "Black Bars" can be easily removed via the PreviewBackground property
    • You can get the effect of adding all images to your carousel by turning on all items in either the Background priorities or screenshot priorities.
    • Font sizes and colors can be adjusted from within LaunchBox options (this is a premium feature of LaunchBox). You can also hard code other values if you create a custom theme (like you noticed).

@faeran This might sound like a difficult request, but is there any way that we can find out the code to add the new GameDetails feature (from the LBTheme) to a theme like LBPlex? It seems to be one of the most popular LB themes, so I'm sure that a lot of users out there could benefit from it

Yeah old theme looks same no difference. Need to keep supporting that theme best one still in my opinion

+1 on that. While I use LBPlex mostly, I prefer the old default theme too instead of the newer default.

  3. I think I've seen that error before. If it's only happening in 1 particular game, then it's either not compatible (not working) with cxbx-r or it's a bad rom-file. I tried to find some more information on that error, but nothing came up while searching around. Also, I tend to use xemu more often as it's a little easier.

Beta 4 is now out with the following changes:

    • New Premium Feature: Added a Documents badge for games with manuals and other documents
    • New Feature: MAME can now be automatically downloaded (or updated) and installed via the MAME Full Set Importer. This makes it super easy to get up and playing just by running the MAME Arcade Full Set Wizard and nothing else.
    • New Feature: Game Details in LaunchBox has been overhauled with a new, modern look
    • New Feature: Added new controls and bindings for use inside of LaunchBox Game Details (for theme devs)

For any prospective LaunchBox theme devs, the new view should show off some new functions that you can use in your own themes. Most notably, we added a Media Carousel Control, and an Achievements summary panel.

Tagging previous LaunchBox theme devs, just in case you want to check it out:

Wow! The new screenshots tab in the details-area looks really nice! I only wish that this could be applied to other themes, as I use LBPlex most of the time and I noticed this update only applied to the default theme?

I spoke with Tahlreth, the AetherSX2 developer tonight. I was as careful and polite as I could have possibly been, but unfortunately he has no interest in supporting frontends or allowing frontends to launch games in AetherSX2. He ended the conversation with "I might just make the activities private next update", suggesting that he is going to completely disable any chance of frontends launching games at all.

So unfortunately that is bad news, but it is his choice if he does not want frontends to be able to launch games in AetherSX2. From what I can tell, his reasoning is that he wants users to use his user interface only, and does not want it to be hidden or bypassed by a frontend.

So, for now, we have to give up on supporting AetherSX2. :(

Wow, what a bummer. It's certainly his prerogative if he wants to go that route and I'm sure that's fine with the majority of the public. But in the long run it would certainly be nice if he allowed the *option* to those who'd rather use their own frontend such as LaunchBox. While the UI in AetherSX2 is decent enough, it's nothing special to look at and I'd much rather launch games through one UI instead of having to open separate programs each time. Anyways, Jason thanks a lot for the update and it was certainly worth the effort.

Don't worry . It is a fixable problem and there are three front end apps that fixed it. You need to wait for update of launch box to make it use the scoped storage.

@Goodmango I've noticed that you mentioned "three frontend apps" here and in another post that can handle AetherSX2. Which particular apps are you referring to?

  7. Before anyone would be able to help, we'd need some more information. First of all, are you using CXBX or Xemu to play your Xbox games? Also, are you able to get the games to run on their own, using the emulator by itself (without LaunchBox)? If not, I'd highly recommend checking out one of the xbox tutorials here or on youtube, as that helped me out when I was having troubles. Also, both emulators (CXBX and Xemu) require bios files in their respective folders, so you want to make sure you have all the necessary files with their emulator(s).

Here's the tutorial for Xemu if you're interested in checking it out:

Oops! Just noticed that you posted this in in the "Android" forum. I'm guessing that either you posted this in the wrong forum, or there's an Xbox emulator for android out there in the wild that I haven't heard about yet?

Does anyone know the name of this Startup Video that ETA PRIME is using in his video?

It's possible that ETA Prime found this on another website, or made his own (custom) startup video. I was trying to find this, myself, in the downloads area but wasn't able to find anything that resembled it. But if you ever find it, let me know, because it's definitely a very nice looking startup video.

  9. Has your 8TB system been put together from scratch by yourself? Or did you acquire your drive with a bunch of emulators and roms already installed from another source? If it's the 2nd one I mentioned, you're likely in for a world of problems with your build. If it's the 1st choice, you may need to try a different theme which uses less ram, cpu, etc. Some themes in BigBox will generally lag like that in older, slower computers.

I upgraded to 12.5 but can't see the play time tracker, do you have to activate it? looked all through the menus, nothing?

It might depend on which theme you're using. For instance, while using the LBPlex theme for Launchbox, I didn't see that feature there. But when I switched to the default theme, the play counts were there, and I didn't have to do anything to activate it. I'm not sure about BigBox, but this could also be theme-dependent as well.

Having some trouble with Naomi. I'm using the Flycast core in Retoarch. Opening Retroarch manually and launching Naomi roms works no problem, but whenever I try to open a Naomi rom directly from Launchbox or Big Box, nothing happens. When editing the Retroarch emulator in "Manage Emulators", I've already set the associated platform for Sega Naomi to the Flycast core.

Any ideas? Can't figure out why Naomi is working perfectly from Retroarch itself but won't boot in LB/BB.

    Thanks

Just tested this out with the same configuration, using the flycast core and had no problems. My only guess is that you might have checked "Extract rom archives before running"? If so, you'll need to turn that option off for Naomi and other similar arcade games

  12. This is a very simple but extremely nice theme! However, the boxes which are square (gba, nds, playstation, etc.) along with the wide rectangular boxes (snes, n64) look rather strange since they're using the wrong dimensions. Is there any way this could be fixed, or possibly make 3 versions: regular (horizontal), vertical (snes, n64) and square (gba, nds) and then assign a particular theme to each platform.

Why did you have to change the ame of mame/  was it because your system was set to mame64 or that the leaderboards required it to be named mame64?

I'm not sure, but when I renamed it to "mame" the leaderboards also worked. Previously, I was using an entirely different name, like "mame0.135". So, I'm guessing it has to be named either "mame" or "mame64" to function properly

  14. Not sure if this has been mentioned but I've noticed that lately the mame-arcade leaderboards aren't showing up anywhere in LaunchBox. Previously, I could see them in the details (right side) bar and also when right-clicking on a particular Mame game. But I've tried the default theme (and a few others) and they're nowhere to be found.

Update: Oops! I found the problem. When I renamed the "mame.exe" to "mame64.exe" the problem was solved :)
