    Hi everyone,

12.2 Beta 1 is now out with the following changes:

    • New Feature: RetroArch can now be automatically downloaded and installed via the ROM import processes (if it's not installed already); this makes it super easy to get up and playing just by running the ROM import wizard and doing literally nothing else
    • New Feature: RetroArch management options are now available under Tools > Manage > RetroArch; there are options to automatically update, update cores, and install or reinstall
    • Improvement: The Arrange By menu can now be used in ascending or descending order
    • Improvement: The menus in LaunchBox have been organized for easier navigation
    • Fixed: Correcting a rare error when saving an emulator without a command line (introduced in 12.0)
    • Fixed: In Big Box, the Launch With option in Game Details no longer shows for games that don't use an emulator
    • Fixed: Incorrect download count when processing multiple EmuMovie queues
    • Fixed: FlowVideo control was not always updating the HasVideo binding correctly
    • Fixed: Add/Edit Emulator will now once again let you add two different cores for the same platform when editing RetroArch

Thanks for helping beta test LaunchBox.

Wow, the tools menu looks much better! It was pretty cluttered before and now it's much more streamlined and well organized. Probably will take me a while to get used to but definitely worth it.

Thanks for posting the files but when I load it with the latest Theme Editor, there are a lot of obsolete elements. Is there a specific version of the theme editor that needs to be used?

No problem! I was able to get that one to work with COMMUNITY Theme Creator 1.0.8.99, which I think was the last version released before the latest update

Yes, thanks. I was hoping the app had a true native launch option.

Do you use SSF as your go to Saturn emulator? I generally use the mednafen core in Retroarch but I'm always open to other options that improve the end user experience as much as possible.

Generally, I stick with the Mednafen core in Retroarch too, but I'll try SSF every now and then since I've been watching their progress over the past 10-15 years. SSF does have a more 'pure' feel while playing Saturn games with it, although it's also full of random but mostly minor issues

    Hi Everyone,

Beta 4 has now been released with the following:

    • New Feature: LaunchBox's game-specific background image can now be disabled (Found in LaunchBox Options > Visuals > Backgrounds)

Thank you so much for adding this! I've been waiting for this feature to be implemented for a really really long time. Better late than never😁

Do you have it starting full screen without using 3rd party tools?

I can't seem to get it trying all the "old" posts about how it should work.

Yep! After a little bit of time and effort, I found a way. Put the following in "Running AutoHotKeyScript"

    Sleep, 2500
     SetKeyDelay, -1, 110
     Send !{Enter}
     Return

Here's a screenshot I just made with 'Darius II' running full screen in SSF

    Hello there,

I Just tried this. I get a "CUE file load error. -fullscreen"

A very important FYI, related to this post of course, the latest version of SSF now has the ability to load .iso and .chd files. From what I've tested so far, it's working great and there's no extra command lines needed in LaunchBox to load games directly. For anyone's reference, the latest version I tested is SSF .12 preview r27

Hi everyone. The 11.18 Beta 1 is now out with the following changes:

    • New Feature: Filtering games in LaunchBox is now much more flexible; you can filter to pretty much anything on the fly with the new filter button in the left-hand sidebar, next to the search box
    • New Feature: Anything you filter on the fly with the above new feature can be easily saved to a dynamic playlist
    • Improvement: Performance while selecting games in LaunchBox is now faster due to improvements in populating the game details sidebar
    • Fixed: Login screen would immediately close when checking "Force New Login" in the XBOX import wizard if you had previously logged in
    • Fixed: The ROM import wizard wasn't always importing all games when using MAME metadata (the full-set importer was unaffected)
    • Fixed: The keyboard focus border wasn't being drawn correctly in LaunchBox's Grid View with the default theme (recently introduced)
    • Fixed: Big Box CoverFlow views can once again use "Box" as image type in addition to "Boxes" (recently introduced theme compatibility issue that was affecting some older themes)

Thanks for the help with beta testing LaunchBox.

Wow! But it's a shame that the new filtering feature doesn't work with other LB themes. I tried this latest beta with the default theme and it works great, but it's not available in the LBPlex theme, which is the one I almost always use

Oh, one more note: I did attempt to get Citra/Nintendo 3DS working, but unfortunately neither Citra nor Citra MMJ work properly with frontends (they start up but they don't launch games). If anyone knows otherwise or knows of a frontend that works properly with them, please let me know.

Thanks a lot for the latest update! Beta 7 is now loading up noticeably faster on my Galaxy S10. Also, I can confirm the same issue (that you mentioned) with the two variants of Citra. When you load them up with the Dig frontend, it doesn't launch the games.

I'm in need of anyone willing to test this new version of the Colorful theme and report back any findings.

This version of Colorful - Light is a complete port into the COMMUNITY Theme Creator. It's about 95% complete. Once complete and tested, it will replace the versions on the forum and within Big Box.

One of the most notable things missing is the styling on the alpha-numeric index.

The theme has a different name and won't conflict with the current version of Colorful.

    Colorful - Light Theme.zip 14.6 MB · 18 downloads

Just tested it here, and it seems like it's running smoothly with no issues. Anything specific I should be looking for while using this particular version of the "Colorful" theme?

  10. @Jason Carr Thanks a lot for the prompt reply to my earlier request. I've got the latest Android version up and running now, and it's working pretty smoothly so far. Just wondering, will you be adding in the ability to allow users to place their own images in the appropriate directories? The online scraper works pretty well, but there's a few games which it couldn't find and sometimes it would be nice to have my own custom images. Also, the ability to use screenshots in the background (instead of fanart) would be quite nice too.

For various reasons, we recently decided to get back into development on LaunchBox for Android. Google never fully followed through on the security restrictions they promised, which ultimately would get in the way of emulation frontends on Android, and while they're still moving that direction, there's no conclusive information on if and when apps will be required to switch to the new security model. We've decided to jump back into Android development and just hope that when new versions of Android are released, they don't take away our nice things.

One thing that we're doing differently this time though: we're completely avoiding Google Play. Going forward, the only way to install and use LaunchBox for Android will be sideloading it. This isn't really a major issue, because you basically have to sideload Retroarch anyways in order to get the best emulation experience on Android. Sideloading apps does not require rooting your device; it only requires enabling installing apps from outside the Play Store in your device's settings.

If you previously purchased the LaunchBox for Android app from Google Play, and would like to help us beta test the new version of the app, please email us at support@unbrokensoftware.com with the email on the Google account that you used to purchase. We'll be sending out downloads and license keys to users who have previously purchased the app.

Unfortunately we still have some website development to do for users who did not purchase the app from Google Play, so currently beta testing is only open to users who previously purchased the app on Google Play. Unfortunately, for privacy reasons, Google does not allow us to see a list of emails of people who purchased the app, so it will largely be a manual process to get people upgraded to the new licensing system (our own DRM-free licensing, instead of Google Play's).

The app itself is in pretty good shape at this point with 4 different platforms views and 4 different games views (half of them are new and include wheels and a BannerBox-style platforms view). There are still some big things that need built, like the update system, and a few bugs, but in general it works very well.

Below are some screenshots as a quick teaser. Please email us at support@unbrokensoftware.com if you've previously purchased the app on Google Play and would like to beta test.

@Jason Carr I'm really glad to see the android project back up and running. However, I sent an email about a week ago to try out the latest beta, but haven't heard back. By any chance, did you get an email from an address with this same username?

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I'm stuck in a loop doing that. It downgrades and opens 11.15 OK, I chose not to update to beta. When I open Big Box it re-installs the beta by itself. I've tried deselcting the beta option but same thing. Appreciate any further help.

    Cheers, love the system!

Then you need to delete that 11.16 beta 1 from your "updates" folder and then turn off "Automatically Download Updates" in the background in LaunchBox options.

What you can do is look in your "Updates" folder (within LaunchBox) and should be able to find the previous installation files there, that is if you want to go back to an earlier version

  14. @faeran @Jason Carr Unfortunately, I tried to install this update a few different times and different ways, and I'm getting a major error that I can't get past after the installation finishes. When I revert back to 11.15, there's no issues

    11.16beta_error.thumb.jpg.b04bd86d91eba6d993d0b5c3e7a1b4dd.jpg

Update: I figure that this must have something to do with my data or the plugins I'm using, because when I do a fresh install (with no data, games, images, etc.) there's no issues. Sticking with 11.15 until the next beta is released

  15. 1 minute ago, Jason Carr said:

Let me know how that goes. Unfortunately you may have to uninstall the previous version before the new version will install; let me know if you run into that.

If you do uninstall, you might want to back your stuff up, because Android will delete everything in certain folders.

Okay, good to know. Thanks for the advice, and I'll let you know if I encounter any issues during the install

Sorry to revive an old post, but I had the same issue today (after a 'fresh' windows install) and this method completely solved it. Much appreciated!
