Hanz Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I really like the new Image Grid options. If I could make one suggestion however it would be to allow modification of the corner radius from that menu. I gets annoying having to make a default-copy theme every time it updates to modify them myself. 2 Quote
Drybonz Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago The new image grid options are a very nice improvement for non-BigBox users. This is most welcome. It took a moment to figure out where the options were at, but this is a great way to set things up, and I think it opens up all kinds of possibilities (maybe a right-click media edit menu with a similar pop-up options box... just thinking out loud). I notice that initially the grid images were having a lot of pop-in loading right after the beta update, but after making changes in the grid options that triggered a full load (with the little progress bar at the top) that performance seems to be very good. Thanks for this improvement! LB users appreciate this. 1 Quote

LaunchBox can better monitor the actual game or emulator window, allowing startup screens to close when the game appears and shutdown screens to appear when the game exits. This also includes all of our supported storefront launchers, which includes the ability to ignore the storefront's launch windows and understands which game process to actually look for. LaunchBox and Big Box will also automatically update its game stats more reliably for you without the need to refresh the entire game details pane. All of this will make launching games feel smoother, and more reliable for capturing your play time and game progress. This sounds very promising!!! I won't be able to test anything as I am without access to my pc for a couple of weeks, but I really hope this makes starting game transitions more seamless (both from emulators and Steam), but most importantly for me, as this has been bugging me for years, finally fix the transition when exiting a game from Pause screen, where for now it goes back to gameplay for a split second before bringing up the shutdown theme, which is very annoying...for me at least Quote
Drybonz Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Just a quick question about the image grid options... do these save per platform, so that you can have a shorter grid for horizontal boxes (like SNES) and taller for something like NES? Quote

Correct, you can use the Image Height (Section Override) to adjust the spacing for not just specific platforms, but individual categories & playlists too. Quote

(even after closing BigBox - requires a full reboot to clear out) Can you help me understand this better? How long does it take to gobble up all that memory, and how are you using it? Screenshots of task manager would be useful (before/after/timing) More interestingly, what *exactly* do you mean by "never gives it back"? Does BigBox.exe stay running (according to task manager) or... where does the memory go? Would love to fix this for you (and everyone). Rlad Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) You can select 20 games and its instant but then one will get stuck for up to 5 seconds 2026-06-19 15-49-07-1-{quality}.mp4 I went back to Beta 1 to double check (as constantly clicking on things is not something i'd normally do obviously) and it's a lot smoother even on this 600 game test build. salofan Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) Unfortunately, have to add that I'm also seeing major, major slowdown with the new beta, to the point where LB is barely usable. Image grid takes forever to pop in, game details take a long time to show up after clicking on a game. LB on the whole seems to struggling to work at all. Ryzen 9 9950XD/RTX 5059, W11. 64GB of RAM. Using a modified version of the Omni theme. Have not been even able to get into the menu to switch to the default theme or to test out any of the new features; LB hangs and freezes when I try to open the options menu. Getting this error: Not enough quota is available to process this command. salofan Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) Update: was able to change to the default theme. Running a tiny bit better but still seeing the same issues: image grid not populating with thumbnails (or taking a long time to pop up), game details take forever to load - up to 30 seconds. Even browsing the options menu is sluggish. Edited 3 hours ago by salofan Quote
Rlad Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) Reader controller mappings not being recognised, i did manage to map them on one occasion but they didnt work in the reader still. Game startup shutown seems to be smooth. Custom themes that were missing layers working properly again. Getting a double input or no input at all in Bigbox. Edited 2 hours ago by Rlad Quote

(also read faeran's post above for other information that is useful for us to have) I'll get some numbers / screenshots for you later today. I'll fire up the cabinets in a minute. Lets say - 'idle' Win11 on a fresh boot is consuming like.. 6gb of memory (or something). I fire up BigBox and just let it run in attract mode for hours. After like.. 6 hours, system has 11gb of memory consumed (11gb/16gb). I shut down BigBox, return to Windows. Task Manager still shows like 10gb/16gb used. That's a memory leak in my book - something is using memory and not properly releasing it. There is probably a tool I can get to 'see' it (raw memory usage). Maybe. This happens on both of my cabinets / BigBox installs. If I boot up the PC and launch HyperSpin 2.0 instead (I've got a startup menu...), this doesn't happen. Doesn't happen with Launchbox.exe either. Just BigBox. Anyway, let me see what I can dig up to support this. Quote
Omifi Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Beta 2 is completely unusable for me. When i launch Launchbox the images for games dont load properly, selecting different games or platforms wont update the UI, i cant access settings or plugin options, my emulators dont report status anymore, trying to navigate the UI by changing platform or clicking on a game crashes the whole program almost immidiately. Im on windows 11 using 7800x3d and 4090. Using the default theme of Launchbox but my collection is huge with over 100k roms. Drybonz Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) 2 hours ago, salofan said: Image grid takes forever to pop in Yeah, despite my comments, above, there is a noticeable image pop-in in the grid when switching from one platform to another. It's like it is trying to load all the images before showing any, whereas before the initial images you see would load very quickly... making it now seem slower overall to the user. Suhrvivor Posted 24 minutes ago Posted 24 minutes ago After further testing beta 2 and VLC, I've noticed that Bigbox now doesn't randomly crashes when you setup VLC as the video player, it seems even more unstable on the other two players though. Quote
