@kingkoopa505 @Frankie_Sambuca I've recently heard of a couple others having similar issues (not the exact same, but related to 'window focus' issues and 'MAME'). The fix for both of them in their case was to edit the MAME emulator (in LaunchBox) and on the main Details page, un-check the box Attempt to hide console window on startup/shutdown. This relates to the comment "this seems to happen to games that are not using Fullscreen (Borderless window is not recognized as exclusive full screen.)" Again, I'm not saying this is "the fix" for your situation(s). But something worth trying.

Sense check my idea for having every game on some platforms?
JoeViking245 replied to Johnny T's topic in Noobs
With what you're showing, the 2 Atari (category)'s I think would actually be (Platform)'s. (As in, you can't import games into a 'Category'.) You can put the Playlists under Root, like you depict. (again, this is just me...) When you expand 'Kitchen Sink', you might have upwards of 40 Platforms. I think under "Kitchen Sink" you'd want to have the 'sub' Categories i.e. Arcade, Computers, Consoles, Handhelds, Pinball.. and then 'sub-sub' Categories i.e. [under Consoles] Atari, Nintendo, Sega. And then Platforms under those. Respectively. If it's Playlists you mostly prefer, (which myself, I only look at then maybe a couple times a year. Just to remind myself they're there. lol) you can do like you show. Then if, you have a hankerin' to play something/anything in i.e. Wii, you can expand the Kitchen Sink. Alternatively, have the Playlist view your default View. Then, easily enough, switch to Platform Category View. I believe in BigBox, you can set a button (button-combo) to switch directly form one View to the Other. No matter how you go about it, you'll need to do some manual editing on the Platform/Category/Playlist 'Parents' tab to get the hierarchy the way you want. But that's the beauty of it all. The feature to be able to do is there. And if after a while Plan "A" isn't to your liking, it's easiest enough to make changes and go to Plan "B". And the number of 'plans' are endless. Ya, it may be construed as "A lot of work". But with 'high expectations' come great responsibility. But in the end you'll have something beautiful to look at. And then maybe even play some/several/many/all of those 'EVERY game on each platform'. 😎 -

Wouldn't "Kitchen Sink" be the same as [the built-in] "All"? Pretty sure it's enabled by default. If not, Tools - Options - Visuals - Filters Side Bar. Check the box Show "All" Item. Heck, you could even rename it to "Kitchen Sink" if you wanted. "EVERY game on each platform" at this point [of the planning] is insignificant. You may want to start by jotting down what all platforms you'll be importing since that's the 1st thing that has to be done before you can organize it all. [Eventually] you'll be using the View Platform Categories. So think about what makes the most sense to YOU as to how you categorize the platforms and organize your setup. To me, what makes sense is something like how you have it currently. And add in some subcategories. Just don't overthink it and break it down TOO far. Enough, is enough. Arcade (Category) Arcade (Platform) Sega Model 2 (Platform) Sega Model 3 (Platform) Computers (Category) Windows (Platform) Steam (Platform) Consoles (Category) Atari (Category) Atari 2600 (Platform) Atari 7800 (Platform) Atari Jaguar (Platform) Nintendo (Category) Nintendo 64 (Platform) Nintendo Entertainment System (Platform) Sega (Category) Sega Dreamcast (Platform) Handhelds (Category) Nintendo HH (Category) Nintendo 3DS(Platform) Nintendo DS(Platform) Sony HH (Category) Sony PSP Pinball (Category) Pinball FX2 (Platform) Pinball FX3 (Platform) Visual Pinball X (Platform) -
Ya, if it's not running in your old version of MAME OR a newer one, it's probably as Neil said... corrupt CHD.

Does the error still occur if you go back to your previous version of MAME? Your original non-error screenshot looked like it was creating the nvram. May try deleting the existing nvram file and let it initialize (create a new one) again.

An example of one of those might be -config "D:\emulators\myEmu\Configs\%romfilename%.ini" "FULL\PATH\TO\ROM\FILE" Where you need both boxes un-checked, but need the ROM filename for a config file.

Batch file doesnt load through bigbox
JoeViking245 replied to Kahlenda1990's topic in Troubleshooting
Since the batch file(s) needs to be ran as Admin to disable/enable "Ethernet", the easiest way is to create a shortcut to that batch file(s) and set the shortcut(s) to Run as Admin. (You could do some other tomfoolery in the batch file to run some PowerShell thing, but that's kind of ugly.) If [for some reason] you have LaunchBox or BigBox running as Admin, DON'T DO THAT. It creates more problems than does good. Once you have the shortcut(s) all set up, point to that/those in your Additional Apps. Bonus tip: When you set the properties of the shortcut to run as admin, also set Run to Minimized to hide the Command Prompt Window. This one will disable or enable the connection based on the current 'Connected' status. Tested (Windows 10) from both LaunchBox and BigBox. netsh interface show interface "Ethernet" |find "Connected" >nul && ( echo connected - disconnecting... netsh interface set interface "Ethernet" disabled ) || ( echo disconnected - connecting netsh interface set interface "Ethernet" enabled ) Since this will toggle both ways, you can add just one Additional App and check both Run Before... and Run After.... Caveat: if for some reason you connection is already disabled before launching the game, this WILL enable it.- 1 reply

If you want to completely start fresh with all your media (images and videos)... Exit LaunchBox. In Windows Explorer, navigate to your LaunchBox folder. Delete the subfolder Images and the subfolder Videos. This will remove all the images and videos that you've previously downloaded (and free up a ton of space. ). When you re-start LaunchBox, those 2 folders will automatically get recreated (right away or at least when you start to re-download the media). You may still see 'cached' images. Don't worry about those.

Open Xemu and go to Settings. Click on Flash ROM (BIOS) and navigate to your flash ROM file and select it.

I'd never tried it before to see that "Unknown Platform.xml" was created. However just now, I did some testing and see that it is [LaunchBox version 13.14]. (No gaslighting involved. Just ignorance on my part.) This could be kind of useful (for whatever personal reason someone may have). A sort of pseudo 'hide games'. A game(s) that you add and leave the platform blank gets placed into "Unknown Platform". "Unknown Platform" does not appear in the Left Panel in LaunchBox. No matter the view. When you go to Tools - Manage - Platforms, "Unknown Platform" does not show up there. If you select "All" in the Left Panel, and select the Filter [icon] - 'Platforms', "Unknown Platform" will not appear there either. But... When in "All", the game that you manually added [1st bullet], it will be there. (Can use the 'search' filter to find it easily). The game will appear in automatically generated playlists if it meets the criteria of that playlist. Except: Platform - Is Equal To - Unknown Platform This is just my observation and findings.

That's pretty subjective. I have mine in G:/Games/name_of_platform/roms.ext For me, it's seems I'd just be digging all that much deeper if I added one more level. And I don't mind a tall layer of folders. But do what makes best sense in our mind for finding/sorting/updating/adding-to etc. Organization is key. As long as you can follow it.

Mesen is an emulator. vs. NES, SNES etc. are consoles (platforms). For sanity's sake, you should put your console-specific ROMs in their own respective folder. Then import those into their respective platforms (consoles). Then if you choose to use Mesen as their emulator, in the Associated Platforms section (when you edit your Mesen emulator in LaunchBox) add those platforms and check the 'default emulator' check box. I'm not personally familiar with Mesen, so not sure if there's any Custom Command-line parameters necessary for the platforms.

MAME Hi-Score Display - A plugin for BigBox
JoeViking245 commented on JoeViking245's file in Third-party Apps and Plugins
Thanks! There already is a Community Leaderboard for Arcade (MAME) games (that support high scores). For pinball, there really isn't a huge following on the forums. But you are able to at least see your personal scores for VPX with this: iScrore looks to web based, so you'd either need to create a web interface or open a browser window. Which you can already do. Just add a new game, give it a Title ("My iScore page"), set the Application Path to the web sites url, and be sure that in the Emulation section, 'Use an emulator...' is un-checked. When you "Play" the game, the web site will open in your default browser. I doubt LaunchBox is wanting to integrate a high score viewer (of sorts) since it already has one. (But who am I say. lol) I suppose you could register your own account and sharing your Public URL. But kind of looks like anyone wanting to add their scores will need to purchase/register their own account.- 38 comments

From a different perspective, it'd seem the 'bug' was fixed after v13.3. A game, when imported needs to get added to something. In the case with LaunchBox, a 'Platform'. This game (data) is then saved inside ../LaunchBox/Data/Platforms/platform_name.xml Though technically, you could have a file named ".xml" (no name, just an extension). Why? [To me at least] it doesn't make sense to have a game that doesn't actually belong to a platform. "Platform", being just a name (or placeholder). Be it "Windows" or "Games I don't want to see in the Windows Platform". (Granted, that's kind of a long name.) I apologize if I misunderstood the situation. tldr

Does that work? Never seen it done that way. Cool if it does!

A closer look at the command line for chdman. the -f should be a -i ("i" for 'input'). My guess is the OP transposed the 'f' and 'i' on that line. chdman createcd -i "%%f" -o "%%~nf.chd" Still not tested though as I don't have anything to convert anymore. I used this plugin directly from inside LaunchBox, and everything is converted.
-
Sure. Tell to just look for the .cue file instead of all files. for %%i in (*.cue) do md "%%~ni"
-
Prt of tht is tht its now cmpressd. (how's that for a visual? lol) Another factor is when converting .bin(s) to .chd, all the empty 'sections' are stripped out. They're basically just blank placeholders that serve no purpose to the actual game.
-
Need to execute them from the Windows Command Prompt Window (vs. the Terminal window) If you want to use them inside a batch file, you need to double up the percent symbols. for %%i in (*) do md "%%~ni"

I don't use that emulator, but I do have a little understanding of AHK scripts. The 1st one looks to have some extra , (commas) and other formatting issues that may affect your script. Also I've read that others use Alt+Ctrl to go fullscreen. Suppose that depends on how you have it set in the emulator. I presume the window Title actually has 3 spaces between "Roms" and "Screen"? Or is there only supposed to be one space? Here's your 1st one cleaned up a little (leaving the spaces as is): WinWait, Roms Screen 1 IfWinNotActive, Roms Screen 1 WinActivate Send, !{Enter} WinWait, MK6 Emulator IfWinNotActive, MK6 Emulator WinActivate WinMove,1,600 WinSetTitle, CLICK HERE TO USE BUTTONS

Correct. %romlocation% does add quotes around the full path. Take a look at how @cpujunkie did it (above). And don't forget to check the 2 boxes as noted. You should be able to put in relative paths to keep it portable. Make them relative to where ares.exe is located as the command will be executed from 'that' directory.
