My normal library and big box are both super laggy and stutter
SentaiBrad replied to chronichemp's topic in Noobs
Also, since you have decent amounts of ram, go in to Tools -> Options -> RAM Cache (on the left, at the bottom), and set that to 4GB (put the slider all the way to the right). It might re-cache your images, but you'll assign more RAM to LaunchBox, so more images will go in to RAM instead of being loaded off the hard drive. What you're describing is either that LB is still caching or re-caching, or something isn't keeping up. I do have my RAM set to max, so even though im on a 5400RPM drive, I might not notice it that much. That said, CPU is the most important part for a LaunchBox install. Hard Drives can make a difference obviously, if they're too slow, but 5400RPM shouldn't effect that too much. USB2, SATA or SATA2, on a SATA connection that is being shared with other SATA devices can all play factors. The connection all your drives are on, depending on your motherboard, could slow down the more you connect. Or if your connection isn't as fast as it could be, the drive is failing, it could literally be any number of things. Even when my images would load in, it's not neceserilly "stuttering" either. A lot of people will attribute poor performance to LaunchBox or Big Box, and yes the application is not perfect and can always be improved, but PC's are very complicated and it could literally be anything. -

IF LaunchBox, your roms and emulators are all on the same hard drive when you imported and added them, it will use Relative paths. If they're all on a different hard drive though, then it must assign them a full path with a drive letter, so if you move them off that path it doesn't know where they are anymore. -
If they're not launching, did you download the core inside of RetroArch? Did you make sure the name in the Associated Platforms page matches the name of the system you imported? If you did download the proper core, did you make sure the default command line parameter is loading the proper core? Ignore the -c from this image, the -L command is all that's needed:

It's something that the Cemu dev team did. Some emulators have complicated commands, some don't need them at all. In the Wii U tutorial that I did, it wasn't even a thing yet. The day after the tutorial, they released the version of cemu that required the -g command. It's been required ever since for us.

Odd idea for a multiemulator BigBox rig
SentaiBrad replied to dukeemu's topic in Collections and Builds
Even some TV's Game Mode wont solve the issues, it really depends on the make of that model and the board they used. Some manufactures, especially the cheaper ones, will put a game mode in, but it really does nothing. So it'll just take a bit of extra research some time. Also I agree with Derek on the repair thing, most people don't just repair stuff now days, especially when the repair cost would equal buying a new one. I couldn't tell you if that's intentional, or just because when something breaks on a TV it all kind of needs to be replaced, so you might as well buy a new one type of deal. I don't think that problem is only a Samsung problem. -
Yes, LaunchBox will import games and combine multi disc games given the right words are in the rom file. (Disc 1), (Disc 2) or (Disc 3), (Disc 1 of 4), (Disc 2 of 4), (Disk 1), (Disk 2), etc. All of those would combine if the rest of the name would be the same.

Did you add the -g command in to Cemu's default command line parameters box?

I use an 8TB 5400RPM drive, LaunchBox and all my games are on it, and I wouldn't consider my 30k library lagging or stuttering. -
If you already did adjust it, then it means that Big Box is taking longer to load than the length of the video.
-
Nested Filters would certainly cover that, and I think the plan for Jason is to eventually bring more of that stuff in to Big Box as well.
-
You need LaunchBox and EmuMovies premium. If you have just EM Premium, you can download them manually from their FTP and place them in the videos folder, in the appropriate system folder, but LB + EM together is the easiest and fastest method. Of course, you get tons more awesome features with Premium too though.

There are volume controls inside of MAME, besides your PC obviously, but it's similar to YouTube. There's not too much in the way of standards, and everyone did things differently. I'm sure there might be extra software out there to detect volume levels and control automatically, but I have no clue where to start looking.

Sorry for the issues you've been having. If you don't mind e-mailing jason@unbrokensoftware.com with your issue, @Jason Carr would be more than happy to help you out with your problem.

So the Startup Video feature is meant to be expanded on further, the way it is now isn't meant to be the end of it. However, if your Big Box takes longer to load than the runtime of your start up video, there isn't too much we can do about it. Besides obvious performance enhancements that are always happening, depending on the situation (hardware, software combination, and size of the library), there's nothing Jason could really do to fix that. Also, here are some official LaunchBox assets: http://forums.launchbox-app.com/files/category/6-launchboxbig-box-official-media/ I can upload more if someone wanted. Also @keltoigael, you should just release it! You already make quality, and if it helps City Hunter than all the better. Like I said, there are some situations even we can't really control, but the best of the best media should be out there, always.

Where's the ambiguous "Database improvements" vote.
-
*facepalm* Whoops. I just woke up, sorry.

As for the games you already found, and the images, you can import the games from anywhere, they don't need to go in to your LaunchBox folder, but I suggest them at least being on the same hard drive so LaunchBox uses a relative path instead of an absolute path. If your games or emulators are kept on a different hard drive, it needs to assign a letter to the paths and it becomes less portable in the future. All of your images can be dropped in to the appropriate image folders, and as long as it matches the game name inside of LaunchBox or the rom file, it should automatically attach just fine. The LaunchBox Games Database is growing and has quite a lot though, and EmuMovies is a great compliment. They have music and movies too, but Premium is required for some things, so watch the EmuMovies tutorial.
-
A lot of this can be done, or is handeled by the emulator, LaunchBox just becomes the facilitator. I would suggest watching a tutorial or two for a system you want to try and test import. The SNES system tutorial is aimed at begginners, so I would suggest to start there as it also goes through a lot of LaunchBox stuff. It's a bit older, a lot of them are, but most of the info in all of them should still be good to go. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6pTDaHeAz-WMcNURVPU-1xLN_TVpT3FB

That's pretty damn sweet! Derek, just loop it, double the explosion! If you want, you can post it in our Downloads section too! I keep telling people about this because it's a fairly centralized place for downloads instead of threads, and that stuff gets backed up. Not that our entire server doesn't, but that stuff especially.
-
Yea we were talking about it in the discord last night, $319 for the better version as a pre-order price is actually pretty damn sweet. I wish I could come up with that kind of cash. X_X Jason and I have been thinking about getting machines to do a lot of testing of LaunchBox and Big Box so we can officially have some sort of baseline for expected performance, this could fit nicely in a portable category. Again though, damn money.

Thanks @CTRL-ALT-DEFEAT and @Manuel Leiria, I know it's kind of a pain in the ass, but we're getting to the point where it's getting harder and harder to track down.
-
Our Database doesn't have music, but EmuMovies does, that could be the baseline since we know that audio works. As a matter of fact, both the audio and video should probably be grabbed from there, and to make double sure install this codec pack. If it gives any errors during install that it wants to fix, say yes and let the installer fix them. With these 3 things checked, try using Windows Media Player first then VLC (the codec pack has more of an effect on WMP, though it still can effect VLC). Past that, try a clean install of LB/BB and or a different PC. That is what I can think of that might flush out this issue the most. If one of these things works, it can also give Jason good info for where the crash may be related instead of almost poking around blind.

I think the ratings in the Cloud portion is being pulled from the Database, but in the app they're not being pulled at all. I think Jason wants to add community ratings in to LaunchBox, but intends to make them seperate so the user can still rate them.
-
Maybe we're looking at this from the wrong angle? How are your MP3's and video encoded? What kind of codecs do you have installed on your machine? If Jason has made several changes now hoping to be related, he could have either not have found it or the problem lies in a completely different area that hasn't been found out. A combination of video and audio is doing this, so I say we inspect those two items. Like, a combination of audio, video and software installed is causing a crash. Has a fresh install of Big Box also been tested?
