I think the .prof files are a D-Fend thing, where the .conf files is a DOSBox thing. You can import all your games, and probably be just fine, but if you want to use a custom conf file, you'll need to edit a game and point it towards that. Jason does want to work on better conf handling too, at some point, but it just hasn't happened yet. My favorite DOSBox set up so far as been the eXoDOS collection, imported through our importer, I replaced the default DOSBox .74 with DOSBox Daum, and when I need to have a game load a conf file, I will add that in. eXo is even working on making his new version ship with LB as well, so it'll be even easier in the future, but right now that's my personal work around.

We used to import D-Fend stuff, over a year ago, but it never worked right and no one used it. So sadly, no, there isn't really a way to import D-Fend stuff. If you have conf files that each games needs to use, you can assign them to each game which should solve any config problem for each game that needs it.

Yea, i5's and i7's are certainly a WAY better option. If you can get a laptop with a GTX M series GPU in it too, you'd be even better off.

Personally, I've been using a PS4 controller since they came out, and all I needed to do was install Input Mapper, and it works great. I just recently got an Xbox One, and that controller also works great. I would say, go with which ever one you can get on sale, and if you ever get those consoles you have an extra controller. When it does come to those controllers though, the old versions will be cheaper. With the PS4 controller, the old version is just fine, as that's what I am using. I turn off the light bar so the light bar improvements mean nothing. The older Xbox One controller on the other hand, I don't recall having a built in Micro USB port, but the new versions do (which is the version that came with my Xbox One).

launch box lauch box crashed and says something is corrupted
SentaiBrad replied to ResidentEvul13's topic in Troubleshooting
So your Settings.xml seems to have gotten corrupted some how. Make a backup of the currently broken XML at that path it shows you. Go in to your backup folder and see if there is a Settings.xml in your backup folder and place the backup in the Data folder where the corrupted one was. See if it will load then. Otherwise, removing the corrupted Settings.xml will make a new one, and it should work after that, but all of your settings will have been reset. -
For most PC games, if it doesn't allow you to edit the keys or set up controllers (Amiga and DOS do), then there wont be too much you can do unless you want to grab rebinding software to map keyboard controls to your controller. Otherwise, I haven't done a tutorial yet for this, nor have I done any testing yet, but the best emulator for the ZX Spectrum should be FUSE. MESS is supposed to work, but it's not the recommended emulator actually, so I need to do some testing here. I also don't know how FUSE will work with LB.

You can scale your boxart manually with the slider in the bottom right of LaunchBox. You can slide it close to where you want, then use your arrow keys to fine tune it.

Checking out NTFS Compression might be worth it. You wont have to deal with archives but you get some compression out of it.

It should extract all of it for systems that need to be loaded from a cue sheet. I've also seen users create cue sheets for their archived files and have it point to it and it work, but I don't know how well that does work. For batch converting PBP's, sadly no, I had to do it manually. However, it was well worth it. I just did a few at a time over the course of a few days. I went in alphabetical order, but if you're playing several games a lot right now, or want to check out a game, convert a few games that you're really wanting to play right now and see if the process is easy for you. If you save enough space. it loads well, and you can get the hang of it, then you could go for the rest of your collection if you feel like it. For Dreamcast games, and even PS1 games, you could use NTFS File Compression. The next tutorial on this topic will cover NTFS Compression. I wouldn't do this to your entire emulators folder, or most programs (like LB/BB for example), I would just do this to the rom folders you want to compress. It shouldn't cause any issues, but as a precaution I would only apply it to what you need compressed, like your Dreamcast games.

So, if there is a cue file inside of the archive, it should prioritize the cue first. For Dreamcast, that one is new so I don't think anywork was ever put in to that. Honestly, we don't see too often people archiving disc based systems, but I can see how that's an issue. Personally, I would suggest converting all of your PS1 games to pbp files. They're read across most emulators, and multi disc games are combined and auto-switch. For Dreamcast though, I don't know about converting them to chd's. I haven't done this. I just use the uncompressed folders and imported the gdi files.

In terms of .182, I downloaded a fresh split set and it was broken. Split has been my go to recommendation since MAME .164 to MAME .181, but since it seemed to be broken in .182 so I suggest non-merged (at least for now). Edit: Also, merged has never worked in LaunchBox, it doesn't import properly and I believe our data has always been based on a full set of roms, aka split set. Non-mergerd is a combination of the two. All roms are merged for the best possible compatibility, but all the roms are still split.

Tip for RetroArch N64 C Button Binding (No Hold)
SentaiBrad replied to fromlostdays's topic in Emulation
The N64's controller names in RA seem to be all over the place. I think some UX needs to go in to these names a bit, but they probably have bigger fish to fry sadly. I'm gonna move this to the emulation sub-forum though, and thank you very much for the tips! -
Our YouTube tutorials are all the systems that I've suggested for over a year now. Some have version 2's, and several parts (Like MAME and MESS). There were two tutorials that I re-did because better emulators were found or issues were fixed, and that was the Sega Saturn and TurboGrafx-16 tutorials, both have an updated tutorial that is suggested over the original.

Switching platforms im not surprised there is a bit of a lag, probably a little longer depending on if it's a big platform, but I am glad everything else is working! We appreciate the kind words as well.

Moved to the new Beta subforum so Jason can see this more easily.

I've used it for 7 years and it's worked flawlessly each time, and shows how many devices really do need updating. It's perfectly capable and fine. I've been recommending it here for over a year, and no ones had issues with it either.

Hey wait, our Discord server is not empty and unresponsive.

When you delete a platform it asks you if you want to remove the games now.

I need help and clarification on updating rom sets please.
SentaiBrad replied to willkills's topic in Emulation
At a certain point, it might be cleaner to download completely new rom sets, especially as update packs become older and harder to find. -
I would try updating all of your drivers first, and see if that could be it. Use IOBits Driver Booster and let it update your drivers.
