I just spent some time with this trying out the settings posted here and the settings I have posted in my Mame Tutorial: # OSD SOUND OPTIONS # sound portaudio audio_latency 1 # # PORTAUDIO OPTIONS # pa_api "Windows WASAPI" pa_device default pa_latency 0.003334 I had very weird and mixed results. With the settings posted here by @philexile but changing the pa_device to default worked at first but then stopped working. I also tried my settings posted here and it also worked at first but then stopped working. What I get happening is a weird high pitch garbled screeching sound, not fun to listen to so it is trying to make sound. Both settings also stopped working when launching from just the command line outside of Launchbox with Launcbox closed. I really don't know what is going on here. I don't use port audio generally because I like to listen to other sounds from my computer while playing like music or talking to friends in discord while playing.

You can try this playlist file and see if that helps out. Arcade NoFiller.xml
-
Just put the bios in the /roms folder of your Mame / Mess folder, set your command line for the associated platform in LB to: neocdz -cdrm Import the cue file for your games into LB and they will work if your bios are correct and your disk image is correct.
-
You would have to enable and use cheats to change characters in the 6 player version.
-
I just use Mess and Mame interchangeably at this point, they function identically.
-
Yeah, Mame does some consoles better than the RA cores, I use it for some stuff.

You don't need to move any files via the command line, just copy them to your Mame / Mess /roms folder using your normal Windows file manager.

No-Intro / REDUMP .dat compatibility with LaunchBox Database
Lordmonkus replied to Z3R0B4NG's topic in Features
Here is the list of poll items that received enough votes to get prioritized for development until the next poll. I have bolded the ones that are function over aesthetic. As you can see it is over half. This does not include things that get added in along the way. BigBox integrated theme manager and downloader with update notifications. Mame overhaul (updated metadata, improved filtering, importing clones into additional apps). Pause screen with manuals support. Game startup launch screen with progress bar and improved multiple instance startup prevention. (I bolded half because half of this function and half is aesthetic) Add Retroarch core to the Launch With menu (nested under Retroarch). Retro Achievements further integration (Gamer score, leaderboards) Options to filter out games that are missing images/media. Easier Retroarch command line integration drop down with core detection. Control definitions with overlays / icons (Display the controls for a game / platform). Proper support for Pinball (Media and emulators). Built in hide mouse cursor features. BigBox per platform background music and sounds. Custom default game images for each platform. Custom nested folders / nested filters (support for multiple levels). -

Make your own frontend then. -
Same small size. Here is a guide I wrote up on emulating NeoGeo CD with Mame:
-
You may not like it but it's the best place to get the latest roms which contains the Qsound file from. I wish I could tell you a site that has them all individually but it doesn't exist as far as I am aware of. What I do is I rent a seedbox and I update the set on it every month when a new set gets released and I can pull individual files from it as needed without having to download a full set to my computer using my bandwidth.
-
The best place to get up to date rom sets is Pleasuredome.
-
Here is my guide to the NeoGeo CD with MESS but the same steps apply for Colecovision, just use the following command line parameter: coleco -cart

That image is way too small to read and you can post images directly into posts without uploading them to an image hosting site.

Most likely the roms are incompatible with FBA or Mame, NeoRage X is quite old and the rom set for it is as well.
-
As far as I am aware of this is a problem with NeoRage X and I don't believe it has command line support so it cannot be used with LB. I don't know if this issue has even been resolved with some work around or not but we do not recommend NeoRage X at all. We suggest either using Mame or Retroarch with the Final Burn Alpha core, both are much better quality in terms of the emulation itself and are easy to setup.

I have no idea what the ratio would be but I wouldn't say it's much different than in the past, there really is a lot of garbage games in the past as well. Like many games, there is a difficulty adjustment, try playing it on death march difficulty. If you want challenging try out some games like the Souls series or Nioh some time. That's very true of course but just because we have a lot of 3rd person open world games such as The Witcher 3 there are a ton of old school types of games as well. Try out something like Nex Machina or Dead Cells some time, great old school vibe games that can be quite challenging. I really do feel like people are cherry picking their favourites from way back when they were kids and forgetting all the trash from back then *cough* Pac-Man Atari 2600 *cough* while at the same time cherry picking the egregious shit from today while ignoring the true gems that we have today. We live in a great time in gaming right now where if you want the large sprawling open words of Breath of the Wild, Witcher 3 or Horizon Zero Dawn we can have them but at the same time we can have modern takes on old school game play such as Nex Machina and Dead Cells (and countless others). Indie devs have never had it so easy to get their games to the market with online distribution and not relying on having a publisher willing to shell out the production costs to get the games to market. If the big name devs and publishers of old aren't giving us what we want there are a ton of great indie devs out there giving us great new games, you just have to look around instead of writing off modern games as trash. Sure it's easy to write off the next Call of Duty game as just another FPS game milking the market but it really is no different than all the mascot platformers of the 16 bit era, fuck you Bubsy.

I'm sure there is a way but like I said, I don't use RA for Mame at all, I much prefer stand alone Mame.
-
I always update my Mame to the latest version and there has to be a mame.ini somewhere, it should be located in the main folder where the Mame executable is but it can sometimes be in the /ini sub folder though that usually doesn't work with LB.
-
Not sure how you set it up in Retroarch but in Mame you have to set up the mouse to control trackball games Open up the mame.ini file in notepad and look for the following section: # # CORE INPUT AUTOMATIC ENABLE OPTIONS # Then set trackball_device to mouse: trackball_device mouse

They did back then as well but again not quite on the same level as today, look at all the EA sports titles and even the Street Fighter 2: blah blah editions.

I cannot agree with this at all. Are there shitty games out there ? Yes of course but there was a ton of shit back in the old days as well, just look at the plethora of "mascot platformers" from the 16 bit era or the janky ass 3D stuff from the 32 bit era. Tons of shit there that just gets conveniently ignored in favor of the "classics" we all know and love today. The difference now is we have them all at our fingertips so we can pick and choose which we play instead having to wait patiently for the good games to come out like we did back then. Do companies like EA, UbiSoft and others try to milk us with bullshit micro transactions ? Yes, of course they do but you just ignore them and look for the good games that don't try and milk us like the cash cows we are. CD Projekt Red and and all the great indie games out there prove this time and time again, for every garbage game that tries to squeeze every penny out of us with micro transactions I bet I can find a great game that doesn't. Treat those mainstream game companies the same as pop music, ignore it and go look for what you do like. Just to use the music industry as an example, people always complain about how the music today sucks and I say bullshit to that too. I am a metal fan and people I know say there is no good metal anymore but there is plenty of it if you look for it. This also happened back in the day though admittedly not on quite the same level but if you want proof of this just look at the video game crash in the 80s. This was caused by all the garbage games being shoveled on to the market by companies trying to cash in, no different than today. This whole "video games today suck" is just old man syndrome (and I am an old man by most standards) but I don't see it that way, in fact I see the opposite. I see so many amazing games coming out all the time and wonder how the hell I am ever gonna play them all. Two quick examples right now is God of War and Spiderman on the PS4, I don't have them yet but they are great games. I have games I have bought and haven't even gotten around to playing them yet like Bloodborne and Ni No Kuni. Want another example of an amazing game showing how great gaming is and how far it has come ? Look at Zelda: Breath of the Wild, we wouldn't even dare to dream such a game could exist back in the 80s and 90s. No, gaming is degrading at all, it's getting better all the time, just ignore the trash and focus on the great stuff that is coming. When Cyberpunk 2077 comes out the internet is gonna go quiet for 2 weeks because everyone will shut themselves in and play the fuck out of that shit.
