libretro_path is not set error when launching mame files.
neil9000 replied to jacob.pederson's topic in Troubleshooting
You shouldnt really use the installer for retroarch just use the portable 7z version. The app data/roaming folder is hidden by default in Windows and it does that for a reason, you shouldnt really be messing with things in there. My guess is windows is not allowing Launchbox to launch games from there for security reasons. I just created a Emulators folder inside my Launchbox folder and keep all my emulators in there. -

Have you actually setup MAME to use retroarch in Launchbox? Also why is your Retroarch in your app data/roaming folder, thats probably the issue right there. -
Problema con tiempo de carga de Launchbox
neil9000 replied to fernandoq03's topic in Troubleshooting
Sí, cuantos más juegos agregues, más tiempo llevará cargar. Launchbox tiene que leer todos los datos de los juegos que has importado cuando se carga para que sepa qué mostrar y qué imágenes mostrar. -
Well they will be where you originally put them when you downloaded them, by default MAME likes them in the roms folder in the MAME emulator folder, so I would look there, but honestly your PC I have no idea were you put them.

Problema con tiempo de carga de Launchbox
neil9000 replied to fernandoq03's topic in Troubleshooting
He visto personas con tiempos de carga mucho más largos que eso. El mío es alrededor de 10 segundos, y eso está en una SSD. 15 segundos no suena nada mal. -
That's not necessarily a Launchbox thing, nearly all the emulators I use exit with the escape key. So if you have a emulator loaded and you press the escape key on your keyboard then of course the emulator is going to exit. I have never used a emulator that uses escape to pause a game, games are paused with start on the controller like real hardware, and you shouldn't really need to go into the emulator menus after initial setup, that's the whole point of a frontend in the first place, to hide all that stuff so its seamless loading and exiting to/from a pretty interface.

Those are not images they are videos, you can download them from within Launchbox under Tools/Download platform/Playlist videos.
-
lol, that's the PG13 version of Mark Hamils character in Jay and Silent Bob Srike Back.
-
Yes, that's why I noticed, I loaded up the beta and had no sound, had to turn the knob up.
-
Yeah agreed, I like the videos auto playing but the full volume of them could be quite annoying if you were clicking around on games. So being able to set it to 30% or something is very nice to have.
-
@Jason Carr the new volume button in .Next is affecting video volume as well, is that intentional? I actually quite like it.

Usually those sort of grey static images in videos are due to HHD speeds not being fast enough. If you are running Launchbox on a HDD only then its reading/writing several things at the same time as trying to also play a video and that can cause issues from time to time. If you have ever tried moving two files to a HDD at the same time you can see this in action as both transfers will be much slower than they should be as the head is having to move a lot more to right the data required. I used to have the same issue while using VLC but found WMP to be much better, but that has some downsides also. What I actually do now is have Launchbox and all the images on a SSD, while keeping my roms and videos on a HDD, that way Launchbox is only reading the videos from the drive and not all the other stuff at the same time.

nope, not if you just grab random roms off the internet. MAME use a versioning system and generally the romset version has to match the emulator version. my romset is the current 0.198 so I use the current 0.198 version of MAME with it. If you don't know what your roms version are you will find that some just wont work with the current MAME, its likely that most old Capcom games will straight up not work with the current MAME.

Well that is because retropie is using retroarch so nearly all systems are using the same emulator and that is why the controls are setup, you can use retroarch with your Launchbox which would simplify controller setup hugely as you set them once and forget them more or less. The automation works just fine it sends a escape command when used, so you must be using a emulator that doesn't use escape to exit, what emulator are you testing with?
-
Yeah controllers will need to be setup with the emulators you are using, Launchbox has no control over that its down to the emulator in question. As for exiting you will need to turn on controller automation in the Bigbox options, you then set a hold button which you will have to hold to access the other buttons in that screen. a lot of users use select/back as the hold button then use start as the exit button, so you hold select/back and press start to exit.

Hmm I have not seen that error before, however it does look like you are installing another Launchbox inside of your Launchbox folder, your path is E:\Launchbox\Launchbox\Bigbox.exe is that correct? It looks like you will end up with another Launchbox folder inside your existing folder. If your Launchbox is on the root of your E drive then it just needs to be installed to E not E:\Launchbox.
-
No, there is a updates folder in the launchbox folder that will have the installers in it just pick the one you want and when you get to the part of the wizard asking where you want to install too install it directly on top of your current Launchbox folder.
-
Go into your Launchbox/Updates folder and install the newest beta or newest official release directly over your current install folder, it wont touch any of your games or settings just ovewrite the .exe and any files needed for the program to run.

Are you positive you do not have 2 playlists/platforms using the same clear logo in bigbox? maybe one on its own and another under the arcade section?
-
That's always been the same, they don't download for windows games. Or have I missed something? if so apologies.
-
Its the latest official yes, so should work.
-
What version of Launchbox are you on? Also what @DOS76 said.

1) Yes 2) There are dolphin and ppsspp cores for retroarch, dolphin I wouldn't use as its no where near up to par with the standalone version. PPSSPP is OK at the moment and is not far off the standalone now after it was ignored for a long long time. Demul is still the best choice for Dreamcast, the reicast cores have just been updated in retroarch but are considered beta and flat out crash retroarch for me currently. 3) That depends greatly on your system specs and how accurate or fast you want the emulation, they are often exclusive accuracy Vs speed depending on your specs. 4) No, you wont see retroarch unless you want to, launchbox will launch it straight to the game, but all the retroarch features are still there in the GUI if you want them. 5) Just add it as a emulator either when you import the system it will ask you what emulator you want to use or add it in Tools/manage emulators. 6) Correct most CD systems and up require a bios, this is the software that launches when you turn a console on, so for PS1 for example that has that sound and shows the Sony logo, that's the bios it is needed for games to work and is copyrighted so its never included with emulators and we can not link it for you, you will need to find it yourself, just google console name bios and im sure you will find something. 7) You set the emulator options from the emulator itself for the most part, set the settings you want and that's what works when its loaded. There are ways to add settings for individual games, but that's a discussion for another time. Hope that helps, any further questions feel free to ask.

Oh I agree to a certain extent options are always good. However in this case to actually program something like you want is certainly not a easy task at all and would take resources away from Launchbox/Bigbox development. You need to remember that unbroken software is not a Microsoft like size company, its really a one man band for the most part coding wise, and Jason goes were the users want, hence the semi regular polls to see what is most important to the community in regards to what features should be implemented and the priority for them. As I say I agree in principal with what you are requesting and I think a lot of people could possibly like and use that feature, but it would take away from development of much more highly requested features and that would likely piss off more users than it pleases at the end of the day.
