Yes. Why would you not just nest it inside E:\Launchbox so the UI update will work and you do not have to keep manually downloading and copying data over?
-
That's your issue then. LB will always look to install to a \Launchbox folder. This would likely explain why the update from inside LB does not work as it is trying to find that \Launchbox folder.
-
The best way to share images is just add them in the post. At the bottom of the text field is the area to add images (see first pic below). The issue is you have your platform view set to display 3D Boxes. This image in your second pic is a normal Box - Front Image. You would need to edit your image priorities to allow Box Image to show up in the absence of a 3D Box image. >Tools>Options - Media - 3D Box in this section you can choose all the image types you want as fallback when a 3D Box image is not there. You can move them up or down to place them in order of priority.
-
Can you post a pic of where you are not seeing the images. Also for one of the games that is not showing specific images can you share a pic of the image it should be showing inside the \Launchbox\Images folder? If it downloaded the images and you see them in the correct folder a refresh of the cache should have worked. So it would be nice to see you set-up.

The new install will not affect settings. It updates the exe and other components, but it does not overwrite any of the data xmls or settings xmls. The question though is why it is installing in a secondary LB folder. Are you manually installing a new version or doing it from within LB when it notifies there is an update?
-
Try refreshing the image cache. In LB under Tools there is an option to refresh all images. In BigBox in the Images settings you will see a similar option.
-
Right click and edit the Mame.Ini file. Scroll to the OSD Video options and in the video line what is it showing?
-
Are you changing the rom path inside Mame directly? You said it will not update the rom path when you change directory from Tools, that is a LB UI element. You need to open Mame directly and change the path where Mame is looking.

@xenotoca Yes it helped. We now see the issue. you type "Stga" and not "Sega". Many many times has a typo been the issue.

No worries on the time difference/delays. OK just wanted to make sure there was some confusion on if you were importing Naomi or Sega Dreamcast. Since your Dreamcast games work in Retroarch with the FLycat core that means there is a disconnect in LB. Choose on of your Dreamcast games and right click, then edit. Show me 3 pics (Pics are the best way for us to spot anything at odds) 1: Pic of the Metadata tab 2: Pic of the Launching tab 3: Pic of the Emulation tab

No one insulted you. You just came in here with such a sharp negative attitude towards LB and we simply offered countering statements. In fact we even offered help. I asked you to provide images we would need to see where the disconnect is and you provided some of what we needed and then proceeded to say if you had to do 1 and 2 to get games to run you would just stick with RA. Well, if you are not going to provide what we ask for to help you what good is that? Let's start from the beginning ok? 1: What platform are you importing exactly? Are you importing Sega Dreamcast or Sega Naomi?
-
No. Still just as simple as it ever was. It has not changed how emulators are added, nor how games are. There have been a coupe minor tweaks, like no longer needing to type in the core for Retroarch. Outside of that much of how you add games and emulators remains the same. In fact the tutorial @neil9000 linked is close to two years old and is still relevant.

From the looks of it I am going to say that you have the wrong platform name in the Associated Platforms tabs. Just below the last image I can see "Sega Dreamcast" peaking out and in the Associated Platforms tab you simply have "Dreamcast". The way you have the Platform named in LB has to match what you enter in the Associated Platforms tab.
-
I am merging your threads since they are both about your problems getting Dreamcast games to launch. Please do not start separate threads with the same issues. We do not stress a lot of forum rules here. However, we do try to keep unnecessary duplicate posts to a minimum. See my response to your original post and we can help troubleshoot.

You mean like the one at the top right of the forum page? As far as Dreamcast goes, first things to confirm is do your games run in Retroarch directly (without using LaunchBox)? If they I would recommend sharing pics of your set-up so we can see if something is missing. 1: Edit your Retroarch in LB and post pic of the Edit Emulator Screen showing A: The "Details" tab / B: The Associated Platforms Tab (make sure the platform name is fully visible) 2: Right click a game from the platform and choose edit. Show a pic of A: the "Launching" page / B: the "Emulation" page.

No. Best recommendation is at the top of the forum click "Help & Support" and then choose the "Request a Feature" option to post a request on our BitBucket site.
-
If you are using the “Default” theme the game names will not be under the box. It will be on The image at the bottom of it. If you are only getting a game name when you click an image then you need to check the box labeled “Text” on the bottom right of the Launchbox screen. Near the volume. If you want the names to show under the image you will need to use the “Old Default” theme.

Refresh simply refreshes the image cache. You need to rerun the Media downloader. Right click that game and edit it. In the Images options choose "download media"

Mame not working , spinning wheel of death
Retro808 replied to Barnacle1028's topic in Troubleshooting
Do your games still work if directly Launched in Mame? What mame are you using (Mame, MameUI, Arcade64, etc.) and what version? -
LB has been and still names the media after the game name as it is imported in LB. There is no setting to have it name it after the rom. Now, LB will accept media named after the rom and it will show that media in LB. But there was not update to add a setting to choose how it names the media.
-
Do you have the "Scrape As" set to Arcade? That is the recommended setting. I just tested that game it downloaded the images fine.
-
There is no regular vs portable mode for LB. LB by its nature is portable if you contain all your roms, media, and emulators in the LB folder structure. That is what allows easy portability to a new system/drive. The one nagging issue would be an emulator/game exe that might confine its installation to a certain folder or drive. That's an emulator issue and nothing LB can do.

This I am not sure. Is your native resolution 1920x1080? Are you running any DPI scaling? I am running native 1920x1080 and when a game's resolution changes even when I Pause (regardless of the Pause theme used) it shows the pause theme and images at my native resolution.
