core folder & Bigbox suddenly cannot find theme file
Retro808 replied to markmon's topic in Troubleshooting
LB creates symlinks in the \Core\Themes folder. If those symlinks are gone the theme does not work correctly. The change to the \Core folder had something to do with a lot of the back-end changes in coding LB went through a while back. Is your LB on an external drive by chance? -
Are you using a more recent version of Mame in your set-up? I know you are using FBNeo, but if you have a more recent Mame build then LB pulls the Mame.xaml from it. If so that might be the issue because the Mame.xaml in your \Metadata would be from the more recent Mame build and for example redeartn.zip is no longer a valid rom name. Joe's method might be the best for you.
-
Then not sure why you cannot import them. If they are actual mame roms, meaning their names match the mame.xaml it should import. I do not believe we read any xaml from HBMame as last time I added some hacks for HBMame I had to import as a standard rom. Since you gave a gobbledygook name can you supply legit roms names of ones you had issues importing to test import? LB uses the Mame.xaml. That is about the only one that can be used as of now without a plugin.
-
This might be true but the part that is important is the "portion of Mame". Not all those roms in the FBNeo set might be in the Mame.xaml file we validate against when importing Mame roms. The file you mentioned ehbdjd.zip (Not sure what game that is) is not found in the Mame.xaml which is why it will not import using the Mame wizard. LB does not use dat files. For now if you want to add those Non-Mame hacks/home brews you will need to import as standard rom not using Mame metadata.
-
If you are u sing a Mame import option and they are hacks and homebrews then you need to uncheck some of the "skip" options in the Mame Import screen. Such as "Skip hacked", "Skip unplayable in Mame", and maybe a couple others. Play around with them and on the last screen it will show what is importing. Or on the screen that asks "Wold you like to specify any custom options" do not check the box for "Force Using Mame metadata" and just import it like any non-arcade rom.

Definitely is an off topic emulation subforum so your post does fit. However, Neil was simply advising you would likely get faster/better response on a forum dedicated to EmulationStation or Rpi. It is not diverting users away from Launchbox but diverting them to a resource likely to provide a timely and more accurate answer since the resource is related to the actual software you have an issue with.

In controller or keyboard binding section of BB settings bind a key/button to the option for “Change View”. Lots of options to bind keys/buttons to so I recommend spending some time lookin them over.
-
LB does not care if the rom is legitimate it just looks to see it has a file associated with a game. Any dummy file type will work. You could likely use the "Fake Rom List" creator utility in the Community Theme Creator. It will create .txt files for each platform. It does it for a bunch of platforms not just the ones you have. You could then text files in another LB build to import and download the media for the games you need.

Deleted platform in Launchbox, still shows up in Big Box
Retro808 replied to MarkyX's topic in Troubleshooting
Look in your \Data\Platforms folder. Do you have any other Sega 32x xml files in there? Even if they are backups such as Sega 32x_backup.xml. If there are you need to remove them. LB/BB will try to read them. -
Just the Batman.xml. All the games I have run through Tekno just point to the xml. Well some may still have the old .txt method, but that is just because I have not taken time to update to the xml. The command line --profile=Batman.xml is telling TP UI what to run.

I hope the "Old Default" theme sticks around, should it have a new name?
Retro808 replied to InvaderJim's topic in Features
Pretty sure at some point down the line that theme will no longer be able to work on LB/BB as it evolves. You know you can simply copy the "Old Default" theme and then paste into the themes folder and rename it whatever you want. From there that version can never be deleted from your LB set-up unless you delete it. So in essence you can have it as long as you like. Unless of course a LB update makes the theme no longer functional in newer versions of LB. You can still keep an use it, you would just have to make sure you run a version of LB it works on.- 1 reply

Yes. LB can launch any emulator that can be run through command lines. Just search the forum and there are quite a bit of threads on it.

@jfree427 I am curious. In the pics you are showing you are pointing Batman to an exe and then in the next pic have Batman launching with TP and the Batman.xml. Are these 2 different games or just one? Is this the Raw Thrills game? I have no issue with that game, but I point only to the xml file not to an exe.

Hikaru Fullscreen Addon
Retro808 replied to Vlansix's topic in Third-Party Applications and Plugins (Released)
@JoeViking245 What you propose would work. I do something similar instead of using an additional app. I just created a Demul Hikaru emulator (second instance of Demul since the AHK would affect the other platforms) in LB and pointed to the original demul.exe I use for other arcades. Then use the Running AHK to send Alt+Enter. Works like a charm and never have to worry about an additional app maybe not working one day with LB. -
No worries. Sometimes it takes a couple posts to get thing clarified. Unfortunately right now there is not a more streamlined process. Might be hard since playlists names can be so unique to every individual user that it might be hard to make it sort of a mass dump and go type thing.
-
You were already advised it was possible.... Joe also gave you a second option of how to replace images. Using his method "B" means you do not have to worry about naming the file as LB will name it once you make the selection. One of the best things you can do is spend some time looking around inside the LB folder and familiarize yourself with what is contained within.
-
Not sure what you mean by where are they grabbing them from. However, when they are downloaded they are stored: \Images\Playlists\[Name of Playlist]\Clear Logo\ If you want to replace to stock ones with your own just place the images you want to use in the correct folders referenced above for your playlists there and name them exactly as your playlist is called in LB. All image types are located within the images folder. You can replace any images you want. Just need to spend some time poking around in it and you should quickly identify LB/BB image filing if you need to find other items like Platform Clear Logos or Platform Categories Clear Logos. These folder locations are where themes will grab the images to show when using LB/BB.

The document was update but the "last update date" did not change in the new pdf. You do need to run BB at least once for the new document pdf to reflect the changes. Some of the new documentation appears around page 30 (Converters). If you see that then your document is updated.
-
Can you provide a pic and describe how big and where you want the image?
-
If they are pdf files just add them as an “Additional App” to each game and the will show up as an item in the pause menu.

Just an FYI I have been trying to figure out a way to better make this work. The issue is with using the game name binding and how Windows converts a name versus how it appears in BigBox. So been trying to work on a better solution. I did not want to use the Arcade Controls folder for this project since I use those actual images for another theme. So I went the custom folder route. A folder path binding would be the best method but right now LB does not have any internal binding to custom folders. Additionally the png and jpg thing should be worked out soon. There are some updates coming to LB and a converter in the update I can use to easily pull the image regardless of file type. @Kiinkyfoxx Thanks for helping out with the two files you made. I wanted to find a much cleaner update to the code before I posted anything.

Bigbox: Show playlist first in game-list for platform
Retro808 replied to flac_rules's topic in Features
Ah. I see now. A playlist will never show up inside your list of actual games. So in that pic you posted of the Wall View of games you would never see something like: > Amiga Playlist - 1st Divsion Manager - 3D Construction Kit - ...and so one. You would only see games. A playlist shows up only as a select-able item from outside of a list of games. LB/BB heirarchy is something like: >Platform Category >Platform >Games in the platform >Playlist >Games in the playlist You can manipulate where in a Platform Category or a Platform a playlist will show up, but it cannot be placed directly in the list of games. -
Like C-Beats mentioned you just need to add it to LB emulators. Since it is just a fork of Dolphin LB can run it easily with command lines. Add it the same way you added Dolphin if you already have Dolphin set-up. Nothing really special needed to add it.

PLEASE.....need help setting up themes!
Retro808 replied to iirishguyi's topic in Big Box Custom Themes
It is to "attract" people to the system to play. Hence the name. You can set a timer on how long the unit sits without being touched before attract mode kicks in. Like how long you set your laptop to be idle before the screen save kicks in. Its a functionality users who builds arcade cabinets would use. -

Retro808 replied to iirishguyi's topic in Big Box Custom Themes
You probably have attract mode on. It is a setting in BB. Under "Options" page look for "Attract Mode" and see if you have it on.
