  1. Ahh, yeah just use the core shown in my screenshots. Unless your system is of the lower end power wise such as a Raspberry Pi you won't see any benefit to using them. The way I understand it those separated cores are just a bit more stripped down for speed on low end systems like the Pi but on a normal system you won't see any performance difference. Glad you got it sorted.

There should be a menu entry for Controls near the bottom of the quick menu and in there you should see a whole bunch of binding stuff but part way down there is load remap file, save core remap file and save game remap file. If not you can try removing the config files from the main Retroarch folder and the configs folder (back them up first though just in case).

  4. Leave your bindings in Settings>Input>Input User 1 Binds as default. In the Configuration menu turn on Per Core Configuration. Now when you load up a game like a Street Fighter open up the RA Quick Menu (F1 or XBox Live button on the controller) go to controls and remap them buttons in there as you want for your fighting games. Save that as a game remap. Now when you load up another fighting game like Darkstalkers or any other one open the quick menu and in Controls select load remap and look for the one you made for Street Fighter, it will be named the same as the rom file of the game you made it for in the first place.
  5. Get the latest Mednafen standalone for now but very soon Retroarch will be better choice. I say the stand alone for now because it has 3d pad analog control support while the Retroarch core at the moment does not.

  7. Awesome, glad you got it working 1) I don't think / know if you can do this through the emulator itself. I think this needs to be done through a rom patch / hack. For example Rockman World / Megaman Wily Wars never had a physical North American release, just the Japanese NTSC and a European PAL release but I have an NTSC patched PAL rom that plays at 60 Hz NTSC speed. 2) I don't use the RA playlists so my knowledge here is limited but if you go into the the "playlists" folder and look for the playlist appropriate to the system like the SNES. Open the playlist file in notepad and edit out the line for the entry you don't want. 3) To delete a core from your computer just go into the the "cores" folder in your Retroarch folder and delete the file. Not exactly sure what you were asking here. 4) Again I have very little experience with playlists since I have no need for them using Launchbox for loading games. The whole point of Launchbox is to bypass the need to use Retroarchs UI to load games. For playlist issues you may want to check over on the Retroarch forums.
  8. Yeah it looks good @ 1080, I used to play on a 1080 monitor but since upgrading to a 1400 monitor it looks nicer. It's all about the pixel density being high enough to convincingly achieve the CRT look. Royale and HLSL from what I have read from various sources really shines on 4k displays. If I wasn't using Royale-Kurozumi I think my next choice would be Easymode-Halation.
  9. Not as far I know of, the framerates are locked in like the original console. I do know there are certain hacks and settings to unlock framerate but it causes other problems that are really bad and make things unplayable. I could be wrong though.
  10. I can't comment on the bugginess compared to the stand alone, I don't really play many DS games to compare. Playing fullscreen at 2x resolution with a shader gives a look that actually doesn't look all that bad.
  11. Ok. well like I said I haven't used MameUIFX and looked at it's default settings so I cannot comment on them at all. The nice thing about HLSL is that it is so easy to tweak to personal taste by using the sliders in the UI with a game running and keeping track of what you like and just editing the ini files accordingly. The default settings ones at least from 172 and newer aren't super atrocious but they have too much bloom and the gamma settings are too high washing out the blacks. Like DOS76 said, shaders are extremely personal preference and individual monitors affect their appearance. Royale-Kurozumi and HLSL shaders really like resolutions >1080. In the end it comes down to what you like and what looks good to you on your display. HLSL just makes it a set it and forget it deal, no messing around with setting different settings for vertical and horizontal and with some tweaking you can get the luck that suits your tastes.
  12. Yeah there are some really good Mario texture packs out there but this one is by far my favourite. It gives the game a really nice look, something like a cross between Paper Mario and Yoshi's Woolly World.
  13. Well I use just the standard command line version of Mame but MameUI is the same. I can't say for sure with MameUIFX since I don't know the differences if there are any at all.
  14. Actually the default settings are pretty bad. They don't need drastic changes to get them better but they do need tweaking.

Ok, with the per core config turned on you do not need to save a new config at all, RA will automatically save out your config files in the config folder and will load them when you load a core. You should probably delete the cfg files in the config folder and let RA generate new ones. Are you setting Video filter = Blarg_NTSC_SNES_RGB in the main video settings of Retroarch ? If you are I wouldn't worry about doing it that way. What I do is with the per core settings on I load up a game for a core like the SNES for example and then bring up the quick menu and then I set a shader preset I like. Then I exit out and Ratroarch will save that config out and remember to use that same config and shader preset for every other SNES game. I do that for all my systems. Here is a pic of my config folder and I did not generate any of these at all manually. These were all generated by RA automatically and they all have different settings for things like shaders, audio and video settings.
  17. For controller settings you do not need custom configs. Retroarch has "remap" files that you can set per core and even per game. A core remap file will auto load on a core basis and the game remap files will remap per game. Plus you can load a remap file in other games and if I remember correctly it will remember to auto load that game remap file. For example with the Street Fighter games the core default controls are pretty much shit. So I loaded up a Street Fighter game and remapped my controls to a more sensible layout for an Xbox 360 controller, then Save Game Remap and it will save the file with the name matching the rom name. Now when I got load up another 6 button fighter like another Street Fighter or Darkstalkers instead of remapping that game all over again just open the quick menu and go to options then go to load remap file and FB Alpha folder and you will find the remap file you saved before in there. That game should remember to use that remap file the next time it loads. Edit: I'm not quite sure I understand everything you are trying to say but it seems like you are making things much more difficult and complicated than it needs to be. If you set "Configuration Per-Core" to "On" in the Configuration menu then all the core changes and shaders you set will be saved for that core automatically. Then you can do your controller remaps which for the most part should be good out of the box aside for the 6 button fighters which you can handle like I outlined above.

There are 3 text files inside, one is a readme with simple instructions. As always when making edits and changes make a backup of your files you are about ti edit first just in case you do not like the changes. Copy the text from "mameini.txt" and paste it into the mame.ini file replacing the block of text that is already in it. Don't simply add it to the end. Copy the text from rasterini.txt into the "raster.ini" file located in the /ini/presets folder in the Mame folder. Overwrite everything that is there. As always with shader settings they may look better or worse on your monitor depending on size, resolution and calibration.   21. Aspect should be correct I have keepaspect set to 1 in the mame.ini file. Unless I am missing some other setting somewhere. I agree Kurozumi is tough to beat though. Edit: There is something off with the screen shot aspect though. In game it is fine but taking a screen shot messes with the aspect. I just tested it out and something is getting screwed up in the screen shot.

  23. The easiest way is to use stand alone Mame. To do it for Retroarch you will need to find a shader that works for vertical games or one that is smart enough to auto rotate and generate a new config file. Then in Launchbox use a custom command for all your vertical games to use that config you generated for vertical games. With stand alone MameUI you can just use the vertical and horizontal filters on the left hand panel and bulk set them to use Lottes CRT vertical shader and normal shader. Or do what I do and just use HLSL settings which is smart and doesn't care if a game is horizontal or vertical and looks great. It's even really easy to tweak for your personal tastes.
  24. Try without any shaders and see if that fixes the half black screen. As far as better choices it really is a case of personal preference but the better ones to look at (in my opinion of course) would be CRT-Easymode in the CRT folder or if you got the graphics card to drive it the CRT-Royale-Kurozumi one in the CGP folder. Start with he Easymode first though.
