  1. I haven't been able to get it to work with launchbox/bigbox either. But, you can just add the emulator directly to steam. I added retroarch to steam, and am able to play games through steamlink that way. However, I don't because even wired (ethernet) the input lag is quite bad on my wireless xbox one controller.
  2. This forum isn't for pointing people to roms, but it does sound like that was your problem. The roms should be in .ISO format. You can check a file's format by right clicking it in windows and selecting properties. it should say ".iso". If they are in ISO format, you should be good to go. Just reimport one into launchbox (you can just drag the iso into the LB screen) and from there you can tell LB to move them into the games folder. If you move them manually to folder after import, launchbox will be looking in the wrong place. It's not a difficult system to get running provided you have the games and bios. .GZ is another acceptable format for PCSX2, by the way. But if that's the format, don't unzip them. Always test your games in the emulator itself before importing to launchbox, for a lot of reasons. The main reason though is if you need help its easier to troubleshoot if we know that the problem is with the emulator and not launchbox. Edit: Oh and welcome to the fray! It can seem a little daunting at first, but once you get the fundamentals you'll be smooth sailing.
  3. Go into launchbox, right click one of your ps2 games, and click "edit". Copy the rom path which should pop right up, and paste it here.
  4. Could be a few things going on. Firstly, you mean you have PCSX2 set up as an emulator in launchbox, correct? Secondly, you imported some ISO PS2 roms into launchbox (not cue files if there are any) Thirdly, you didn't move or rename the roms after importing into launchbox? Lastly, you're not trying to run zip files, are you? Edit: With these kinds of questions it helps to be as specific as you can.
  5. In launchbox, select the "All" platform. Go to to the Menu/View, and select "List View". This should bring up a view that no longer shows box art, and will allow you to sort by "platform" at the top. Sort by platform. Scroll until you find the games with no associated platform, (theyll just be blank under platform in list view) shift highlight all of them, right click and select "Delete". Should be what you need. EDIT: Sorry, I said Menu/Tools. I meant Menu/View. Fixed in OP. This could probably be done in XML, but I'm not personally sure how.
  6. If you're just wanting to get rid of them, why not delete them completely? You should be able to use "List View", sort by platform, and bulk delete them all.
  7. I don't think this is an issue. Can you be more specific about what is actually happening? Are you going to import steam games, putting in your API and not seeing the games in the list that comes up? What are the game names?
  8. Personally, I have become a performance junkie over time. I wouldn't use anything that has the possibility of introducing more input lag. Thank Mike Tyson's Punchout for that. But, it wasn't always so, and I don't have an actual arcade cabinet. If I did, ever do, I'd probably want the most seamless transitions possible, and all the bells and whistles even at a performance cost. But that is just personal opinion. I'm not very technically savvy, but it sounds like if I were you I'd approach these things thusly: 1: Make sure everything is optional (don't lock people in one way or the other) 2: Begin by implementing the features that will work with exclusive fullscreen 3: Create the optional features that require windowed To answer the overall question, neither bezels or fade are particularly important to me personally. Again, it wasn't always so, but fades just add to emulator launch times, and I also find bezels distracting (though again if I had a mame cab, I'd want mame bezels, the emulator supports this so no biggie). The feature that would be most important to me is Pause. A lot of the features I love about Pause are already offered in launchbox/bigbox, like built in pdf viewer for manuals and guides etc. But: Being able to fill out the pause screen with custom music, art etc. It's fun to just build that for games I really like, and the artists of the community tend to go off in the best way when features like that become available. Being able to save and load states from Pause (the absolute best feature in my opinion) Being able to change discs via Pause Hi Scores in pause (Would be awesome to view achievements there too, and RL doesn't do that). Just my two cents.
  9. Hi everyone, Just a thought, but is there a way to have the Platform Video continue to play while scrolling through games? The Big Box Cinematixs videos are too good, and I don't spend much time at all scrolling through platforms. Having them play continuously during game scrolling, and then having the game video play only when you click into game view would be awesome. I'm not completely sure if this is tied into themes... currently using Critical Zone v2 with the full screen videos on the background/wheel view if that matters. Any advice would be appreciated!
  10. https://pastebin.com/18W3EbD0 For command line reference. (Thanks Reaper)
  11. I'm pretty sure if you set the image type in launchbox, it'll keep it in bigbox even for playlists. So you could try opening launchbox, changing it from "platform" to "playlist" view on the top left. Select a playlist, then on the top right set the image type to whatever you want. Youll also be able to see how much of each type of media you have. Then just open bigbox and see if it saved the preference. Like I said, I'm pretty sure this works at least for playlists you create, as I have all my playlists using wheel art but the systems the games are pulled from use boxes. But as stated above, mame doesn't really have boxes, usually defaults to flyers or whatever and honestly they don't look all that good as they can be different sizes.
  12. Edit: Corrected response below.
  13. Thanks for the module! I've been hoping RL would update it proper to add more / all the systems RA can actually emulate using the previous mess core and now the mame core, but... it's a lot haha.
  14. Welcome back DrMaxwell. Two questions: One, could you share your RA module for the lazy? Two, you set it up in Rocketlauncher, but then you set up RetroArch as the emulator in Launchbox, which as far as I know means Launchbox isn't using Rocketlauncher. You have to set up Rocketlauncher as your emulator in Launchbox, correct?
  15. It's not a perfect solution, but you can change themes on the fly in bigbox. Moreover, don't forget that launchbox is portable, and you can have multiple installs, which means you could make one for the kids, another with different themes and media etc. Again, not perfect, but doable. I have two separate installs on the same PC. One is my massive collection, and the other is handpicked games I play often. Use Grila's switch theme for the big one, and criticalzone for the handpicked.
  16. Awesome work. This is something that the database could benefit from. Lists of regional exclusives.
  17. So the good news is the steam version does have both exes, and you can import them into launchbox separately! Thanks for the tip, I don't know why I didn't think of checking that. There is some bad news though, mostly for bigbox/controller users. The first is that if you launch this way, the xbox button to steam overlay doesn't work properly. There are some games that support controllers but don't have a selectable "Exit game" option without actually hitting the "esc" key. Secondly, FFX and X2 are those kinds of games. You can't exit without hitting the esc key, and since the steam overlay doesn't work, you're going to have to use a keymapper. Lastly, when you do esc exit the game... for some reason it THEN brings up the launcher. So you'll launch the game from bigbox, exit it, bigbox will show back up, then the launcher will pop up. I have no idea why. I have this game modded so that the launcher supports controller inputs, so I can just exit it, but that's ugly. I still want to suppress the launcher somehow. Anyway, I'm a lot closer, so thanks! Since I'm not the only one interested, I'll make sure and post when and how I get it working properly.
  18. I was going to try and tackle this myself, but I can't even figure out the first step via google. The ultimate goal would be to have this version of the game imported into launchbox, twice, in one instance loading right to final fantasy x, and the other loading right to final fantasy x-2. So I guess the first step would be to figure out how to skip the launcher screen. The second step would be importing it twice with different names (x and x2) The third would be to somehow have launchbox communicate that the first instance of the game launches x, the second x2. Is this even possible? To be clear, it's a really niche issue, and I basically just want to do it because I been working on a comprehensive Final Fantasy playlist and those are by far the best versions of those games. Thanks for any help!
  19. I don't think the point is to dissuade people from doing there own thing and being creative. I think the point IS actually semantics. Not a value judgement, just a clearer definition. What is a platform, what is a playlist, what groups of things are best defined where etc.
  20. Can confirm. Have a list of big fish games left over from hyperspin days. I can't speak to the quality of the games as I never played them, but had to have them when I saw them on hyperlist. I think this is an awesome endeavor and I like researching old stuff like this so I'll be following closely. I'm actually not too sure about this as I've never used Daphne ... but as I understand it.. that's just an emulator. Should it really be considered a platform? Might be more prudent to just make like a "laser disk" platform?
  21. Not sure if this is the right topic, but I'm on 8.3 Beta 4. The thing is, I don't know when this might have happened as I mostly only use bigbox. I launched launchbox with windows scaled up to 175%. Mostly it's okay but some stuff like the edit menu doesn't fit the screen so I Closed launchbox Set the windows scaling down to normal - 100% Relaunched launchbox and the scaling hasn't changed. It's still jumbo (I spoke with DOS in Discord and he tested and launchbox scaled back down to 100% correctly for him.) I tried restarting launchbox a few times, no change. I switched to launchbox next and it scaled down appropriately, so its either something I'm doing or something only affecting the old launchbox. I can use Next, but I figured I'd just report the issue. Again, I rarely use launchbox anymore as I'm mostly set up and stay in bigbox, so I can't be certain when this behavior started. Thanks!
  22. I think you we're spot on when you said "this is just how it evolved". It isn't always clear cut, especially in retrospect ... oh my god I just realized retro comes from that word, I'm having a moment... anyway, at this point you also have to consider things like who is dumping the roms and what are they calling it? How are other popular websites and affiliates like emumovies dealing with the naming etc. It's hundreds of thousands of video games, and the database is being built manually by volunteers. Ultimately though, I do agree consistency is paramount. There's a channel specifically for the LB database in Discord as well by the way. You can also make the case there. But... you should probably make the entire case first. Like here is a list, here is why.
  23. Launchbox should automatically download all the platform media and info if it exists when you select "scrape as" (platform). To be clear, you don't have the name the platforms any specific names, but you do have to pick the right one to scrape as. There is no manual download for platform media, but you can check the forums and the net for clear logos. Here's one for Super Famicom: http://logos.wikia.com/wiki/File:Super_Famicom_Color_Logo.png Just put that in the right directory and you're good to go.
  24. I assume we're talking about Bigbox? The artwork is chosen by the theme, I think. Remember that most themes have multiple views. You can choose which info is displayed. Under Bigbox, go to Options / Game Details. Similar options exist for platform and filter.
