He just means it simply refreshes the stored cache that way if you downloaded any new images the cache will have the most recent data so Launchbox/BigBox can quickly access it. Refresh does not download any new metadata.

Exiting PPSSPP 1.4 with controller automation crashes PPSSPP
Retro808 replied to ckp's topic in Troubleshooting
Not sure if you fixed your issue but I tested on 1.3 and 1.4 as well and no issues with crashing on about 6 games with controller automation. -
Agree with @lordmonkus One of my systems has similar specs only difference is running an AMD RX480 GPU. Pretty much on that machine what lordmonkus described is true for me as well with the AMD GPU. For modern system emulation the biggest hurdle is how far developed the emulator is or rather is not. I will add that Launchbox/BigBox runs smooth on that machine even with a lot of images and video playbacks the front end deals with. So performance of the front end is not much of an issue as your library grows.

@jaythompson Try a clean BigBoxSetting.xml. I had a crash a while back out of nowhere. I could not get BigBox to even run. So I deleted the BigBoxSettings.xml and was able to get it running right. Go into Data folder and first make a back up of your "BigBoxSettings.xml" just in case this does not work you can revert back to the original. Once you make a copy then delete the original from the Data folder. Open BigBox and it will make a new .xml. You will need to redo your settings though like your control automations and such. I would run the default theme and see if it crashes or not.

Automatically send {F11} keystroke after emu launch
Retro808 replied to Pyrometheous's topic in Noobs
Have to chime in and agree on the retroarch option. I used to shy away from it as well and use a lot of standalones. With Launchbox once you have Retroarch set up for your specific cores Retroarch is out of sight out of mind.- 38 replies

Just want to add I had crashing on 7.7 with VLC set. Changed to media player on no crashes. Tested it on 7.8 Wednesday and with VLC set it crashed within 4 hours on attract mode. I cannot confirm exactly how quickly it crashed only that after I returned 4 hours laters it had crashed. Set it to media player last night and it did not crash at all when left running overnight.

@neil9000 Still learning. I had to get check on my arcade before I posted. Trying my best to be of some kind of help when I can.

Have you tried switching from VLC to media player in the BigBox settings?

I may be wrong on this but I think the issue really is how a theme is set up to use the image folders. In each platform there is a "device" folder and a "banner" folder. I would assume you could place the system picture in device folder and marquee pic in the banner folder. As long as a theme is built to utilize those folders then it would display I think the way you are wanting. I think the functionality is there just the theme needs to make use of it. I am sure the experts will correct me if wrong.
-
For platform images I believe they go in the "banner" folder under the platforms level "/Launchbox/images/platforms/<system name>/banner" and I believe can be named anything as long as it is in that folder. You can have the marquee rotate through images when you cycle back to the platform by naming the images ending in "*-01.png", "*-02.png" and so on. The marquee for each game I believe could be named in several ways to match your library/rom name and go in the "marquee" folder of the system. Here is a post on Media File Naming. edited to correct a misunderstanding after I read the above link.

PCSX2 is version 1.5.0 I j just tested replicating your steps above and the save/load works fine from Launchbox load of GTA San Andreas. I also tested by creating new save state and playing for a few minutes then reloading the save state without exiting the game. I did notice it would not work if I tried to load a save state during a cut scene or when the iso first loads. As long as I wait until the game is at a point when I can control the character the loading of a save state works fine.
-
@jeck11 I know I cannot help figure out what is wrong, but wanted to share I just tested save/load states on my system for PCSX2 and I do not have any issues with F1/F3 save/loads working in either PCSX2 from direct launch or when launching PCSX2 from either Lunchbox or BigBox. I have controller automation mapped in both Lunchbox and BigBox to close active window as well. edit: Just tested with GTA San Andreas as well as no issues.

What @SentaiBrad mentioned is the capabilities are there to show a controller type image on a second (marquee) display but it is something someone who can make a theme for BigBox would need to have the theme specifically dictate that the controller image be displayed on the second screen. Right now most themes will display an image on a second screen but it is typically an image from the /banners folder in either the platform or game images. Example in a theme you are on the platform level and have a second screen it will choose the platform image to display there located in the /launchbox/images/platforms/<system name>/banners folder. Or if you are on a game level screen it will show the games specific banner located in its related banner folder. At least I hope I understand what I am seeing on my set-up Check out this thread too: Controller Mapping Launch Image

@Crush Those are sweet! The custom graphics you did really complete each controller. Thanks for sharing and don't let marriage sway you from the ultimate goal! Even in marriages when there is a will there is a way.

That's looking good. LaunchBox/BigBox has revitalized my itch for emulation so my daughter and I are redoing our 7 year old cab. Thanks for sharing!

@SentaiBrad @prolecat @Crush Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I just have to say this frontend, the LaunchBox team, and the forum members have given me a fresh new love of emulating. I had stopped messing with my machine due to the frustrations of how much a struggle it was to get it the way I wanted. Then boom...Along come Launch Box/Big Box and those awesome tutorials. I honestly cannot thank everyone enough.
-
@prolecat Man you are pure genius. That worked like a charm. The tutorial did not have that part. It only had adding the -c in the edit. Tutorial is from last April 2016 so something must have changed. I cannot thank you enough!

Need some help. I cannot figure out why when I edit a Rom to have it load a custom config in Retroarch the game will not load. Needing to set a few games in WonderSwan to the 90 degree video rotate. Followed the LB tutorial on WonderSwan since it specifically tells how to do this. I know the command line parameter works because I tested using it to edit the emulator from the Manage Emulator area and WonderSwan loads this for all games. But if I copy it, delete it from there and then copy it directly into the Emulators tab of the Game Edit the game will not even load. Delete it and the game loads. So it cannot be a typo. The specific config is represented in the configs folder in the Retroarch proper path. I have tested other games and no luck. I have even tried a clean install of RetroArch from the most recent nightly and nothing.
-
@SentaiBrad I will keep that in mind. Tested only a few games and so far no issues with performance. But at least I know an option if it does stumble.
-
Man this is such an amazing theme. Why does my monitor have to be 1280x1024. Well, guess that means time for a new monitor!

@DOS76 @neil9000 Thank you guys very much. All is well and SNES is on retroarch and exits perfectly. Glad I didn't waste anytime trying to get zSNES to work.
-
@neil9000 Thanks for the tip. One last question. I think. In the associated platforms tab do I leave all the ones that are with check marks checked making sure the Super Nintendo one is checked as well? Or do I uncheck all except the SNES one? Likely that was a noob question, but well I am.
-
Thanks @DOS76 That's what I was thinking of doing. Just have not messed with changing emulators yet. Figured I would see what came of my post query first. Would you mind letting me know if I am correct.... Just go into LB tools and edit the emulator path/details in the "manage emulators" options?
